New Catholic church in The Villages??

I was at Mass a few weeks ago and the priest mentioned that there was supposed to be a new church being built in TV. However, he was short on details - such as location and when they were supposed to start building. Does anyone have any information on it? Is it true? Thanks.

Foxtrot 11-20-2021 07:19 AM

I would call Bishop Noonan's office to find out.

billethkid 11-20-2021 08:49 AM

If it turns out to be true some of us hope it will not be/become a mega church.
All the quaint "local" churches have expanded and become mega churches.

The intentions are the same...the ebb and flow and feel is not.

My personal feelings.

davem4616 11-20-2021 09:27 AM

we also didn't care for the mega church atmosphere, sitting in the lobby on folding chairs and watching the service on a jumbo screen...didn't feel like we were actually at church, yet they still came around with the basket.... we found a nice small parish outside TV, where everybody knows your name.

sanlin 11-20-2021 10:08 AM

Small Parish outside TV.

Can you share the name of the small Parish outside of TV?
Thank You.

This one I'll bet: St. Mark The Evangelist | Summerfield, FL

Please tell me where that parish is, I like a small parish.

To my knowledge, there is only one church in The Villages and it is in the 'historical' area across 441/27.

There is a new one planned along Meggison Road in the new village of St. Johns.

There are signs for a new Lutheran church in that area. Are they also building a Catholic church?

I seriously doubt it. The Catholics didn't get along with Martin Luther?

Annie66 11-21-2021 06:37 AM

Father Peter at SVdP mentioned 2 pieces of news about 2-3 months ago. First, the diocese had purchased land in the southern villages area (specific area not defined) for a new church, and they had purchased land across from the Jewish Temple on CR101 for a Catholic cemetery. No time line or specific location for the church. A lot of speculation but no hard facts other than what Fr Peter described.

DARFAP 11-21-2021 06:38 AM

3 Catholic churches in and around TV: Spanish Springs has St Timothy's. Yes, St Mark the Evangelist in Summerfield (I don't consider that a small parish, just not as large as the other two), St Vincent de Paul in Wildwood. Toward Leesburg there is another that also has a school. Fr Peter at SVdP has a vision to expand; however, not sure of the timing. They just completed a new parish center.

Ease up, my hubby was Lutheran and I am Catholic

GOLFER54 11-21-2021 07:15 AM

I hope it offers an open bar.

There is a great Catholic Church in Belleview, St Theresa. 15 minutes from northern Villages. Older style Church and a strong community mission focus.

yes,

St Paul Parish in Belleview...it's just off 441/301/27 (all three roads come together going through Belleview....we've been going there for almost 4 years now

Mass is 11am on Sundays

It's a National Catholic Church....same celebration as the Roman Catholic only difference is: priests can marry, they don't recognize the pope as the head of the church, and the Host is dipped in wine and you receive communion orally

You'll see the ad in the paper....Father Mark Niznik is the pastor

vinnytalk 11-21-2021 09:49 AM

Why call the Bishop' a office to find out? I think they have a lot better way to use there time.
When it's built you will know about it, in the meantime keep attending a weekly mass.

Catholics and Protestants do a fine job of coming together for the good of the community. Your antagonistic attitude only lies in individuals who choose to ruffle feathers. And Yes a new Catholic Church and a Lutheran church are being built. Vincent DePaul Catholic church has grown to be the largest church in the villages with approximately 6000 parishioners and it keeps growing with all the new people moving in South of 44. So the dioceses of Orlando bought land for a new church. It was said somewhere near magnolia plaza. I wonder if it will be on 501. In addition there will also be a new Lutheran church South of 44. It’s nice live in an area where people still find it important to attend church services.

You state that St. Vincent de Paul has 6000 parishioners. However, it has only one hour of confession a week. And it is during the work week - on Thursday morning which makes it tough for working Catholics or students to get to confession. 60 minutes a week for 52 weeks is only 3120 minutes of confession a year for a parish of more than 5,000 plus. Or about 37 seconds a year per parishioner.

New Catholic Church ????

For anyone in the Villages that misses the quaint neighborhood church I would suggest St. Theresa in Belleview. It is right where 301 and 441 merge. We too experienced the mega churches of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Thimothy. With the parking situations in both of those locations when you take into consideration what time you need to leave your house to try and get a couple of seats together the extra few minutes of drive time to St. Theresa is made null. The “family” atmosphere and most welcoming feeling there won us over after one visit. The pastor, Fr. Tom, is a down to earth priest. Approachable, engaging and caring. Over the few years we have gone there I have needed him to keep special intentions in his daily prayers. He put them in his phone as a reminder and every time he saw me he asked how those people BY NAME were doing.
Defined………. Worth The Short Drive.

Be aware that St Paul in Belleview is not a Roman Catholic Church. From the Orlando Diocese web site:

Please be aware that there are churches in Central Florida who identify themselves as “catholic,” however are not Roman Catholic Churches or parishes of the Diocese of Orlando. These churches are not in full communion with the Pope and Bishops of the one Catholic Church governed by Apostolic See nor do they recognize authority of the Pope. Some of these churches are affiliated with groups which left the communion of the Roman Catholic Church (for example Churches affiliated with the Society of Pope Pius X) while others are founded without a beginning in the communion of the Roman Catholic Church.

To avoid confusion, please be aware that these churches are not reliable for their adherence to the Catholic faith as articulated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Therefore, attendance at a liturgical service on Sunday at one of these churches may not fulfill your obligation to attend Sunday Mass and participate in the Sacred Liturgy. Check the Diocese of Orlando website or call the Diocesan office at 407-246-4800 to determine if a church is affiliated with the Diocese of Orlando, under the leadership of Bishop John Noonan.

Non-Roman Catholic churches in Central Florida are listed below, in alphabetical order by city:

Belleview
St. Paul Polish National Catholic Church

it's always in the small print.
Catholic means universal per any dictionary.
Roman catholic is what it says it is and further defined by as a direct succession from st peter to the current pope francis.

There is a Hope Lutheran church being built at Warm Springs and Meggison Rd. Right across from the new St. John's area.

Absolutely! Apples and Oranges. For one, Roman Catholic priest cannot marry. When I read their ad in the paper, I noticed many differences. I think it said National Catholic Church but I’m not sure. It’s definitely not a Roman Catholic Church.

With 4 Roman Catholic Churches in the vicinity of TV (St Tim’s, St Marks on 42, SVDP, and St Paul’s in Leesburg) I would be shocked if they build another one. By the way if you are looking for a parish with at least SOME younger parishioners (families) try St Paul’s. It’s just off 27 on the left just south of the 27/441 split.

love this church because of so many attending young children singing.
Also barrel of laughs when one particular 4 year old says yeay at conclusion of each prayer or song. I try to coordinate with his attendance. Guess another one for the confessional.
