Permanently Closed - Starbucks 466?

Yes, I know you don’t patronize it, don’t like the coffee, don’t pay that much for coffee, etc ( just heading off the obvious at the pass), but the Starbucks on 466 has been “temporarily closed” for a week now - corporate downsizing? Lack of employees? It was doing a pretty brisk business when open….

Are you talking the new one in the Lowes/Publix plaza on 466A that just opened?

No. The store on Wedgewood Lane near Rt 466 is temporarily closed due to "wifi issues".

Obviously, you can't drink coffee without wifi.

I like Starbucks, well enough. And if I want a coffee and it is the only practical option, will pay the price. But why a particular shop closes doesn't matter much to me since there are generally lots of other choices.
My preferred cup of "Joe" is my keurig dispensing a hot mug of Tim Horton's dark roast. No cream, no sugar, no flavored syrups.

Sorry for asking for clarification....it is apparent a lot of you are far more knowledgeable about the area than some of us....

Any chance we could get 466-A named something else to eliminate confusion. I’ll throw in $20 how about you?

We call it "the other 466."

They have been having problems because the underinformed mgmt and verizon decided that the place could operate on a hot spot which is impossible.

self drowning? probably so. I'd venture that they drove themselves into the ground based on duh.

taruffi57 11-25-2021 07:27 AM

What is "Starbucks"?........

Petersweeney 11-25-2021 07:29 AM

Hadn’t been to SB in years….but 2weeks ago I went and waited half hour for burnt coffee - never going back- really I don’t get why the masses line up for that crap.1

jdulej 11-25-2021 07:36 AM

During my working life on the West Coast, we often found ourselves in a coffee battle with vendors from the East Coast. They could not believe we could drink gallons of "burnt coffee" from places like Starbucks. We were stunned the day they took us to a Dunkn Donuts for some "real" coffee. Different strokes for different folks but seriously, Dunkn Donuts?

I read that starbucks employees in Buffalo, NY are trying to unionize. Also, I believe another coffee chain (local, named Spot Cofee)in Buffalo actually did unionize a few years ago.

No WI-FI

Apparently a lightning strike fried their WiFi system. That means they can’t accept mobile orders, drive thru orders, communicate between internal computers or process credit cards and SB gift cards. Would have to be cash only and waitstaff the window.

Temporarily closing the doors until fixed was a better option than having disgruntled customers ragging on the staff all day long.

I was at the Walmart grocery over by Colony checking out when the guy putting my groceries in bags told the cashier he had to go over and close the liquor store. It was around 5:30. I asked him why because I thought it was open quite a bit later than that. He said he had to close it because they didn’t have anyone to work there that evening. I know there seems to be a lot of that these days so I guess inflation isn’t hurting people that much or they could get a first or second job there. I worked part time at Walmart when I was a young single mother. I would go there as soon as I got off work from my day job to help make ends meet. I know, blah blah blah etc.🙂🙃🤔

Starbucks

The road construction has to be factored in heavily

BEETHOVENMIKEY 11-25-2021 08:48 AM

Many modern, fast serve restaurants, require wifi for operations. The system regulates everything. They are not set up for old school, point of sale out of a cigar box.

What road construction near the Starbucks?

Well I like Starbucks coffee, and I can distinguish between 466 and 466A, and in general I drink Starbucks out of my Keurig, no waiting. The holiday blend, out this time of year, is particularly good. And if you read this entire thread start to finish, you start to chuckle and end up laughing.

tedquick 11-25-2021 09:03 AM

Most of this string has a great sense of humor being displayed. It is "one of the fun ones" to read. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Bjeanj 11-25-2021 09:09 AM

I’ve been enjoying the thread and have been reading parts of it to my son-in-law, who is an information security/IT architect. He said “why don’t they just install a new router?”

I also have never cared for SB’s coffee, but apparently a lot of people do.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

MrFlorida 11-25-2021 09:49 AM

I hear they closed because of a coffee shortage.

I enjoy the Starbucks on 466 it’s a nice comfortable place and I usually stop there couple of times a week and same at the one on 466a which is a very big Starbucks , I only drink a small black coffee and the price is not out of line with other shops. They both have more staff then you would think they would need , maybe because they pay them . I like a nice coffee shop , sure I can have a cup at home , but for me a nice coffee shop , just like a nice bar are a couple of life’s simple pleasures

I believe I read earlier (it may have even been on the SB site or app, though I don't see it there now) that they were closed with a reopening on Monday the 29th so that would probably jibe with the idea of network problems needing to be fixed. I recall that I had to pay cash at the drive thru about a month ago at this store because they had problems that day.

**IF** that is the actual reason they are closed my guess is they don't simply pick up a router at Best Buy. Their system must require a specially and highly protected router/firewall since it handles all their transactions etc.

THAT BEING SAID, While I have no idea I'd bet that isn't the real reason as the fix could have been done a lot faster..

Had you seen Starbucks in LSL at 10AM this morning, you would know where most of their addicted customers probably ended up. It was a zoo. Line was out the door and people were waiting outside it was so packed. Took 21 minutes from time of order on our app as we left home till it was ready. The employees there were amazing, working together like a fine tuned machine in a tiny store. Kudos to them.
