Bexley Bridge

Ran across this information on the Bexley Bridge:

https://www.sumtercountyfl.gov/Agend...2?fileID=43652

"This project replaces the existing single-lane bridge south of Warm Springs Avenue that crosses Florida’s Turnpike. The bridge will be located adjacent to but south of the existing single-lane bridge.

The project construction includes the full limits of the Florida Turnpike’s right-of-way as well as the limited access areas beyond their right-of-way. The project incorporates the future widening plans of Florida’s Turnpike to eight lanes.

The project includes a bridge that accommodates four-vehicle-lanes of traffic as well as a multi-modal path on the north side of the bridge allowing two-way golf cart traffic movement.

The project also includes technology as part of the state’s intelligent transportation system About ITSFM

The project also includes a fence enclosure to prevent persons or objects from impacting the travel lanes of Florida’s Turnpike"

If they can do this, why couldn't they have put a pedestrian path next to the golf cart roadway on the other Turnpike bridge? That design is so dumb.

Papa_lecki 11-27-2021 10:12 AM

I THINK it’s the Florida DOT that doesn’t allow it. I think it has to do with safety.

Didn’t Goldwingnut talk about this in one of his videos??

I wonder if there'll be a toll. :>)

Chi-Town 11-27-2021 10:59 AM

Widening the turnpike may provide a sound barrier wall.

chrisinva 11-27-2021 11:41 AM

"... the future widening plans of Florida’s Turnpike to eight lanes...." OMG (not unexpected, just didn't want to see it in print right now.)

Maybe TV's motto should be "The friendliest & noisiest ...."

It’s been recommended to cut state gas taxes by 1 billion….that should delay it for awhile.

Or each new house spends an additional $4,500 in sales tax over that 15 years. Seems like a bargain for the state.

Not to mention the jobs for the people building those 3000 homes, working on the 3000 new golf carts or all the people prepping and serving meals in restaurants for those 3000.

When was the last time you went to a funeral, in TV. Bet it was very few. Torch, scatter, or pot, seems to be the norm.

Is this referring to rye 470? I don’t see anything else south of Warm Springs that crosses the turnpike

It's a bridge that was not used by the public, but by the owners of the land.

I wonder if the intoxicated woman in her golf cart on the turnpike paid a toll. That would be awesome video

Any idea on the timing of the widening project? A sound barrier will be needed for sure.

Thanks for posting. This is very interesting. I wonder if people will be able to simply walk (or run) across the new bridge?

I wonder what will happen to all of those tradespeople's jobs when The Villages is totally built.... Due to replacement needs. we'll still need roofers, plumbers, and electricians - but many of the others will no longer find work around here. Will all of the many, many apartments currently being built end up being overbuilt and hard to rent????

westernrider75 11-28-2021 12:03 PM

The new bridge south of Monarch Grove.

I've got a feeling that The Villages will never have a build out like we were told in 2014.
They probably have enough land for another 25 to100 thousand homes.
Our children will probably die of old age first.

They've already stated they have procured enough land South of 44 to build for another 15+ years...

Here's a map taken from the Property Appraiser's data that gives you an idea of just how much is available for building.

Interesting map. Has The Villages acquired the Secret Promise property in Leesburg from First Berkshire and the Beville Ranch property west of 471?

Bridge

The project will be the key for an immediate connection to the Medical Center and shopping retail area just south of the Turnpike and Citrus Grove.

Quoting District Gov dot org, ‘… "Who is allowed to use the multi-modal paths throughout The Villages?” This is a question that the District receives on a regular basis. The multi-modal paths are for use by NON-AUTOMOTIVE traffic such as bicycles, golf carts, pedestrians, and skaters. …’

Correct, the FDoT would not allow the developer to build the bridges any wider over fears of people throwing things off the bridges onto the traffic below. You know, this is one of senior citizen's favorite pass times, throwing thigs off of bridges. Stupid bureaucrats!

Toll plaza removal is taking 3 years and construction not finished yet a good estimate for the Florida Turnpike widening maybe 10

Bilyclub 12-01-2021 07:41 PM

It's going to take them over 4 years to widen a 6 mile section by Minneola.
