How long before new houses are on Google Maps?

We are buying a new construction house in the Hammock at Fenney. I'm wondering how long it takes for the new streets and addresses to be added to Google Maps for deliveries etc.

Djean1981 11-29-2021 07:07 AM

It seems like it takes a long while. I have reported our house to Google Maps a few times (purchased in March). The street has appeared, but not individual houses. I did save a 'pin' at our house which is very helpful.

Altavia 11-29-2021 07:08 AM

You can do it.

1. Open Google Maps
2. Click send feedback in the bottom right hand corner, or access the menu and scroll down and click send feedback
3. Click Missing road
4. Enter the road name
5. Submit

Waze will typically get them much quicker. I haven't checked in a bit, but you used to be able to enter in your own roads and addresses in Waze. I did our entire neighborhood when we first moved in.

villagetinker 11-29-2021 08:49 AM

The Villages app (white V on green background, free) is very good at keeping up with the new roads and addresses, probably won't help for deliveries.

davem4616 11-29-2021 09:47 AM

Waze is the more dependable map in TV and the delivery folks seem to be aware of that. We moved to TV in early 2017...it was new construction and our street wasn't in the google map in my 2 -year-old car. Waze had the street from the get go. This past January I purchased a new car...the google software in the new car was the latest version...it doesn't recognize our street.

one would think the software would have been updated. I use an address one street over when I'm in the car and choose to use the car's navigation system to get home...it works

I recall reading somewhere that google purchased WAZE a few years back...not sure if that actually happened

I have found the same thing but I am really surprised that if you do deliveries here and into new areas, why wouldn't you use all the tools available to you. I've mentioned it to many of the delivery or service people.

Yes, back in 2013...

So it makes no sense why one would have more data on new roads than the other...

Did you know that Waze is owned by google maps/google?

Pinball wizard 11-29-2021 01:03 PM

WAZE is typically much more up-to-date than Google Maps.

Vikingjunior 11-29-2021 02:14 PM

Google owns Waze! One thing is for certain it will take years for Apple Maps to update new areas.

Have you looked at Apple Maps lately?

Yep, they are not even close to Google Maps. Google is a Data mining company, Apple will never come close.

Homer49 11-29-2021 11:45 PM

Took over 1.5 years for Google maps to get the streets laid out correctly with individual addresses in our area of Marsh Bend. I’d sent several correction reports starting 15-months prior. As mentioned above Waze and Apple Map were correct long before Google

Good luck with contacting them to make the update. I’ve tried no less than nine times to get our new addresses in. Three years, and they’re still not found, so no food deliveries (door dash, Uber eats, etc.) since you must enter your address to even get started and they all use Google Maps. Any other deliveries, I tell them to use Waze. Very frustrating!

bobeaston 11-30-2021 07:02 AM

Our address in Chitty Chatty appeared legitimate to Google about 3 months after we moved in ... which was over a year after Chitty Chatty opened. So, 15 months is about what it took.

and, yes, some of the people who moved stuff for us used Waze to find us.

Google is approximately 2 - 3 years behind. been there done that ..... and don't bother with support. You can get the Zillow arm to show your address but it will still be a open lot on the map

Ptmckiou 11-30-2021 07:59 AM

Once I submitted our house address to Google maps, it took about 3 weeks for it to show up on the map. They send you a couple email letting you know it’s being researched.

Accidental1 11-30-2021 08:22 AM

It looks like our house in Marsh Bend was completing construction in late 2019 early 2020 and we bought it new in Jan 2021. It started to appear on Google maps sometime around Sept 2021. I never notified Google but perhaps other people did.

I used the missing road link for Waze, it was fixed in 24 hours, I did the same for Apple Maps and it took about a week to update, and the villages app of course.

I am a Property Manager and I often have to use Waze to find streets in the new sections. Seems to take Google forever to get then on their system.

OrangeBlossomBaby 11-30-2021 08:43 AM

I think of it this way: Google maps is a map program. It will offer the location of streets, just like maps on paper do.
Waze is a gps program. It will give you exact directions, routes, alternate routes, traffic warnings, and live updates, from point A to point B.

Because of the main purpose of Waze, it's not the best program for simple mapping. And because of the main purpose of Google, it isn't the best program for directions. Together, they are an amazing, powerful system. That's probably why they're both owned by Alphabet Inc.

I wonder what map app Villages GPS (the TOTV app; not the free one) uses for it’s backbone?

EatthMama 11-30-2021 09:18 AM

Use the Waze app

I bought my house in Linden in August 2019. Workers and delivery people still call me and say they can’t find my house on whatever GPS system they are using. Since I have plugged my house into the Waze app, it knows how to get there. It is the app used by truckers, and has many advantages over Google maps (such as it has never sent me the wrong way down a one-way street!). The app is free, and it will get you around this predicament. Best wishes in your new home, and welcome!

for me is the opposite I added house manually and now it shows up but the street does not.

Anyway Waze usually has it. I just tell people to use Waze

Roron123 11-30-2021 11:25 AM

Don’t hold your breath it took us two years to be on the map!! Tell your lost delivery person to use the Villages gps map as that is updated quickly

Don't know about google maps & deliveries but, use WAZE because it has all of them.

Shadow8IA 11-30-2021 12:19 PM

My understanding is that they do it every 18 months. So it should update after that. With a Garmin gps it can take another 18 months to update.

WOW! Thanks everyone. I love the TV FORUMS. I have picked up a ton of information on several topics already and I'm not even there yet. Great bunch of people there.
AZ Slim

GpaVader 11-30-2021 01:30 PM

FWIW - I entered my information in yesterday and its there now. Still doesn't show the actual street we are on but it drops the pin right where I put it....

Vikingjunior 11-30-2021 02:42 PM

The only problem with Waze is it will have you make dozens of lefts and rights to save a minute.

I’m in Vill. of St. Catherine. My home is on Waze but not in Garmin. Garmin is blank for a few miles radius. I called Garmin. She asked if I would give permission to use my address and propagate all roads around it, I said of course. So when will my area show up on Garmin? She said “soon, you should see it in about 12 months.”

Calisport 11-30-2021 03:02 PM

Google maps seems to be working for bicycle/ golf cart (somewhat) guidance.
The villages GPS or villages navigation both haven't worked for me.
House maps I haven't seen anywhere yet also.

Adding places to google maps

Anyone can add a new place to google maps. I have added new rec centers, new restaurants and new roads. They have an elaborate reward system for people who do this with titles like local guide level 8 and master photographer, expert reviewer, etc. They occasionally offer a discount on something they are selling and once offered a free pair of local guide google socks. I view it as a hobby. Photos I have added to locations now have 36,160,360 views. Yes! 36 million!

MidWestIA 12-01-2021 08:33 AM

edit google map

search for how - I added a couple streets & my house

stevemeriam 12-01-2021 08:35 AM

Use Waze

We found that suggesting delivery drivers use Waze as opposed to Google maps. Google took over a year to update roads in Chitty Chatty!

Villages Kahuna 12-01-2021 10:43 AM

The Villages has repeatedly offered the layout of the areas planned but not built, including street names, house numbers, and GPS coordinates to the mapping companies. They have consistently refused to use that data in updates of their maps until their ‘mapping cars’ drive the streets and photograph the areas themselves.

The answer to your question is, as soon as the mapping companies drive the area and create their own mapping data.
