Bait stations

We bought our house last May. The previous owner had bait stations from Massey. We went with Deans. Now we get a call from Massey who, when we told him we went with another firm, hung up. Then called back and said that the bait stations are their property and they must therefore come pick them up. Doe this sound reasonable?

villagetinker 12-01-2021 05:09 PM

Probably, Deans has bait stations, we used them for years until the quality of their workers go so bad we had to find another service.

Dana1963 12-01-2021 05:10 PM

Yes

Bill14564 12-01-2021 05:39 PM

We paid about $20 each for the installation of stations around our house. Looking at prices online, it's hard to tell if that price included the station or just the labor and actual bait inside the station.

frose 12-01-2021 07:11 PM

yep

Stu from NYC 12-02-2021 05:21 AM

When we started with Massey the pesticide guy gave us some rather cheap stations as extras but if same cannot imagine why they would want them back/.

DaleDivine 12-02-2021 06:00 AM

Let them have them back... Problem solved...
:ho::welcome:

bowlingal 12-02-2021 06:23 AM

give them back....bugs and all

Rsenholzi 12-02-2021 06:35 AM

Bait stations

They tried to charge me more than the cost for the bait stations when I asked to put them in. Went out and bought my own - problem solved ! They cost about $25 for the good ones. You can get them cheaper than that though

Sure let them have them , no longer being baited no need to keep them , probably a little sour grapes involved from Massey.

Here's the rub. We expect they will dig them out and leave holes in the ground. is it reasonable for us to demand they fill those holes?

Snookie100 12-02-2021 07:17 AM

Yes - they own them.

Keep a close eye on DEANS as many people in TV have been scammed by that company - including yours truly! Would look for an independent company such as Mid Florida Pest Company (Ronnie) who we have used for years and he is reliable and the price is right- you would not be disappointed!

retiredguy123 12-02-2021 07:50 AM

I would have the house treated for termites with the chemical injection method instead of the bait system. It's less expensive and requires no regular monitoring.

MrFlorida 12-02-2021 08:22 AM

Yes, let them come and get them.

Is there a real need for them? I have Massey for termites, nothing else, and don't have bait traps. New neighbor bought this year and Massey put in traps. Previous owner did not have them or was told they were needed. Could it be just another way to collect money?

davem4616 12-02-2021 08:49 AM

let them have them...saves you or the next guy you hire from pulling them up

there'll be limited damage to your yard, if any, when they remove them

Topspinmo 12-02-2021 09:14 AM

I would imagine how old they are, if they just put them in within year or two probably. My question when bait stations was installed did the owner pay them or renT them?

I had Massey for few years with bait stations already installed. I never seen the change out bait stations. When I stopped service no conversation about bait stations? Maybe cause the previous owners had them installed.

I find it hard to believe Massey installed the bait stations for free? So if there no fine print In contract. say possession 9/10th or law? Now if you got contract signed by you and it says Massey owns the bait stations then I guess they got you.

Just to clarify (I hope) the purpose of these traps - your hope is that the traps are empty all the time. If a termite is found in one of the traps, that is an indicator that you may have a termite problem.

Barborv 12-02-2021 10:19 AM

Usually when you want to change over a company, the new company will install their own bait system. That’s how they initially make their money. Did Deans quote you and initial price for starting and then the yearly price for the service?

Are they outdoor bait stations in the ground/lawn for Termite prevention? If so, they might be right. They are green plastic.

john1006 12-02-2021 01:02 PM

Put them outside the garage and tell Massey to pick them up. Easier that stressing over reasonable or not.

Mlogan22@tampabay.rr.com 12-02-2021 03:32 PM

Same exact thing happened to us. I pulled out the bait stations and nicely bagged them up for pick up. It has been a year and they never picked them up.🙄

Please tell me how Deans scammed you. Been with them for 8 years. Always reliable.

rmd2 12-02-2021 07:04 PM

Massey came and got mine. I didn't notice any holes in the ground.

If they catch an attitude tell them to come and get them and tell them to bring sod to make repairs. My gues is they won’t pick them up.

Pilodent 12-02-2021 08:17 PM

I also had bad experiences with Massey.

Djean1981 12-02-2021 09:17 PM

Shouldn't the prior owners have returned the bait stations? It has nothing to do with you. I don't think you HAVE to give them permission to your property.

Curtisbwp 12-03-2021 05:52 AM

Not reasonable but this is the way mass works.

I purchased the termite protection from Massey it included a termite treatment in the attic. My house is guaranteed to be termite free or they will repair any damage
There is an annual fee to inspect the interior, exterior of the house and the traps
I was told this guarantee and plan is transferable
I would be concerned that the former owner may have had termite issues and would ask Massey if they would continue coverage
I would be concerned that the for

The traps work without chemicals. Chemicals are the issue

nick demis 12-03-2021 07:20 AM

Contact the previous owner and ask them if they paid for the traps. If so, tell Massey where they can go. If, not, let them waste their labor to pick up something that is used and they will have to throw away.

You bought the property including anything on it. Legally they can make a claim to prior owner.

mulligan 12-03-2021 11:04 AM

IMHO, smart money would NOT use a device that draws termites to the house in order to get rid of them. Just use chemical treatment, and get it from a company that will provide a damage bond on the house.

I agree. The chemical treatment is better. It is cheaper, requires no monitoring, and it won't interfere with potential future landscape changes.

fdpaq0580 12-03-2021 08:17 PM

Further clarification?

After reading the whole thread thus far, it seems apparent that the terms "trap" and "bait station" are being used as if they are the same thing. They are not. Traps catch bugs. When full, throw them out and replace. Bait stations hold bait for insects (typically ants) to take back to the nest to kill the whole colony. These are, most likely what the company would like to retrieve.
