4 way stop suggested in Brownwood
I'm not sure who to contact but with traffic increasing I would like to suggest a 4 way versus 2 way stop be installed at the crossing of W. Torch Lake Dr. and Shady Nook Run in Brownwood. This is the corner where the Villages Golf Cars is located. It is also the intersection where most of the carts coming from the bridge and other locations enter Brownwood.
The reason for my suggestion is close calls and watching other ones. |
Agree totally. There are so many signs around there, new people and others don't know whether to stop or not. Lots of honking going on too.
|
It looks like at one point it was a 4 way stop. The white lines on Torch Lake were covered in black paint. The problem is that a lot of drivers are assuming it's a 4 way stop and when they do this on Torch Lake it screws up the traffic flow. Then there's the inpatient and sometimes clueless on Shady Nook just assuming it's a 4 way stop or just forcing their way in causing accidents.

Four people arrive at the stop sign at the same time. Who goes first? |

The one with biggest truck; The one whose back-off timer expires first; or, The one with the least amount of patience. Could solve the problem with traffic circle! |
it should go to the right, no? person on my R goes 1st, then next car on R of him, & so forth?

Stop light.

Good call and the best solution. Many treat it as a 4-way stop; however, those who know it's not run the risk of being T-boned if they continue through the intersection.
|
Re-design all of the entrances to Brownwood so that all traffic, autos, trucks, golf cars, bikes, etc. have to go into a parking lot and stay there, only pedestrians should be allowed on the streets. Problem solved and room for more bars and street vendors.
|
I've sent an email to Sumter County concerning this suggestion.
Thanks for the input. |
*yawn* it's no big deal. if you have a stop sign you don't go until the cross traffic is clear. anything else just has it's own problems. perhaps if you can't figure it out or deal with it you shouldn't be driving. now there's a unique point of view eh?

you da man what you said.....its not confusing pay attention thats all it takes No need to complicate things further:MOJE_whot::boom:

I’ve seen many close calls with cars backing out of parking sports at LSL and Brownwood, around the squares. |

All stop signs are suggestions anyway. But when LEO in the mix all sudden everybody knows how to negotiate them. |

The danger issue is that golf carts can’t see around the parked cars until they pull into the intersection. It’s a bad accident ready to happen.

Simpler solution is add Cross Traffic Does Not Stop signs to those intersection Stop signs. Won’t eliminate the problem but will help a lot.
|
Actually, there is a terrible visibility problem at that intersection. A traffic light would help as long as it is not on a timer, and actually monitors the traffic.

The trouble with adding stop signs is that they spread like wildfire. You add signs at that intersection and within a year every intersection at Brownwood will be a 4 way stop.

I have seen several people on W Torch Lake stop for the other traffic.
I noticed that they did away with the four way stop going into Lowes off of 466A. Probably why they did away with the one at W Torch Lake...:popcorn::popcorn: |
I received a nice reply from the CDD in charge of this issue. There had been a traffic study done some time in the past indicating a 4 way stop was not necessary.
However, the Director of the District Property Management has said he will go review the situation himself. I appreciated the responsiveness from the Director. |

Now, with increased traffic (vehicle, cart) going through that intersection, I hope they put in a 4 way stop. |
It is a 10 mph limit in that area. There is no problem getting through that intersection safely. All it takes is a little bit of patience.

No problem?

There is often poor view of oncoming traffic. "All it takes is a little bit of patience". The nearly non-stop flow of traffic at times seems to stretch the patience of many to the nearly breaking point, and many get antsy and try pushing their way into traffic creating potential hazard. |
I agree with OP. I'm a very confident driver, and I've watched vehicles departing the Square, and flying thru that intersection, making it a challenge to cross.
Also, I think the intersection at Colony Blvd needs to be addressed, as well. |
