Microwave Downsize
Do you think I'll be disappointed going to a 950 watt microwave from having used a 1,000 watt microwave?
Is there a significant difference in the quality, effectiveness of the microwave with lower wattage? It is mostly used to heat water for tea, reheat a dinner plate, heat a can of whatever...nothing really substantial. |
May take a little longer to reheat food boiling water shouldn’t be an issue also..

Wattage Time it Takes to Heat Up a Cup of Water (Minutes)
600 Watts 4 minutes 700 Watts 3 800 Watts 2 1/2 1,000 Watts 2 1,200 Watts 1 1/2 you will be fine - rule of thumb - don't get a microwave below 800 watts - 1000 is the average |
Check out whatever packages of frozen food you keep or buy. Get a microwave that can accommodate their directions. If they have a "for 1000 watt microwaves, do this at that minutes. For 1200, do that at this minutes" - don't go below 1000. If they don't specify, or have instructions for "under 1000" then get whatever you want.

What would be the difference in price?
If no or little difference, get the 1000 or higher, you're worth it....... |

It is hubs who wants the ge/stainless steel! LOL Got a great deal...Lowes has it for $145 with 5% off to use their charge card. BUT found it at Best Buy for $109! Lowes matched Best Buy AND sales person said Merry Christmas when he took their 5% off that price!
While I went to buy the micro hubs went to check the breakers to make sure that was not our prob - and it was! So the original micro is still on our counter and the new one is tucked away to go up to our Maine house in the Spring! Also spurred me to 'sterilize' countertop and toss unneeded stuff that had accumulated there. Kitchen is prepped for the holidays - as long as I don't cook between now and the new Year - except for Christmas cookies! hohohohoho! |

Our GE 1000 watt microwave door was cracking, and of course the color didn't match our replacement appliances. I suspect it's about 8-9 years old. So we purchased a new 1000 watt LG microwave...comparable in power. Well, not really. The new LG is way more powerful than the older GE of the same wattage. I mean it's really impressive how much quicker it cooks than the older one.

Whatever you do, don't get a Samsung microwave. Terrible reviews. I have had mine only 60 days and the door won't unlatch. I wished I would have read the reviews before purchasing.

Yes, 50 watts
|
Microwave’s IMO are like car batteries, I buy the biggest one I can fit.
|
The original microwave (GE) had been good for years but finally died. I got another GE microwave 1000 watts but it is actually less power than the old one. When I use it for popcorn bags there are anywhere from 15 to 30 unpopped kernels. The old one popped every kernel and popped it faster.

Your timing will change and it may make you nuts.

Sorry for your issue! |
I wouldn't worry about the difference. If it's for a more convenient size for your kitchen, I say go for it!

I have a 1200 watt and 1000 watt microwaves at both of my houses. I find that the newer 1000 watt MW heats quicker audio hotter than the 11 yo MW. The difference in years is not as great at the Villages home but smaller is quicker and hotter than 1200 watt GE Advantium.

I have a Samsung microwave and it works fine except I had to replace the door 3 times. The handle kept breaking. |
They now have microwave / air fryer combos. :)
