What is the best way to find similar skilled golfers to pair up with? I am a 16-18 handicap from the white tees and would like to find playing partners who like to have fun and not take things too seriously.

Check out your neighbors. Some neighborhoods have regular weekly golf groups. Great way to make new friends!

Take my advice Play better and lower your handicap from the white tees to 12 to 14. Are you currently registered with GHIN ?? If you are not then maybe you are not understanding the florida handicap system. Also if your average drives are 180 to 190 you should be playing from the green tees in the villages. When I moved here I was about a 14 from the white tees until I read the USGA standard on what yardage I had the ball which determined I should be playing from the green tees. my handicap went down to between 4 and 7 depending on what course I was playing on championship courses.

Just start joining random groups.
Meet people and you'll find peeps you like.
It's more important to like'm than play the same handicap.

Lots of jerks out there in the 16-18 range. :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Agree with DW - put a request in as a single for tee times. I’ve met many great golfers of all handicaps.
Your neighbors/village might also have a group. Be patient, you’ll find a bunch of groups.

Also, you might want to become a PRIORITY member if you intend on playing a lot of championship courses. If you're not a priority member, and the others in your group are, this will cause all to have a harder time getting good tee times...

Don't worry, you'll get you handicap below 16 soon! :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

P.S. I'm right there with you! But I've crept down a bit this year... FINALLY in the mid-low 80's... Only took 50+ years!

Since I am still a snowflake, I'm never sure when we'll be down...

I play as a single quite often and I've met some great people!

I also have a 9 Hole group I joined thru a neighbor, where I play every Thursday when I'm here. They usually have 3-4 foursomes at the different exec courses. The handicaps vary from single digits to well over 20. No issues, we just have fun!

Does it matter what t box you hit from if your using a handicap system?

Score

We moved here in July. My husband has played about 43 of the courses and I, 27 courses, along with 3 championships. With that said, I bet we have only met 3 or 4 people that actually keep score. Most do not, because it’s all about fun. That seems to be the default mentality of just enjoy the beauty of the surroundings, and the people you are paired up with at the time of play. Some were good golfers and some average. We both play from the gold tees on executives, and green on championships. The odd thing I see often is men playing from black, when their game doesn’t warrant it. Lol. We have met 3 couples randomly from being paired up, which with we now regularly play weekly.

You would fit right in with our Wednesday afternoon group. White tees, lotsa fun, birdie shots, and biggg bettors (not)...

Exactly how I met the group I am currently in going on 2 years. We hit it off and play together twice/week and have golfers from 4 handicaps to 18-20, green tees and white tee players.

One iron 12-14-2021 09:43 AM

Would love to play in a group like that. What courses do you play and how does one go about joining

I. Haven’t swung a club since I was 12, back then they said I was natural. Now I’m 63, two artificial knees, two artificial shoulders and L4 and L5 fused. I wonder if I should even try to learn.

And if you play from the reds, you'll be scratch. What a way to lower your handicap -- just play shorter distances.

I came here in July and I would play about once a year in KY. for about the last 6 yrs. I would shoot about a 100 on 18 holes if I broke that I was happy. Now I play once or twice a week on executive course and shoot anywhere between 35-45 from the gold or black according to yardage. I've played once at Palmer (closest to me) and shot 47. Always play as a single. Live just below 466. I've played with all women, all guys and couples doesn't matter to me. All handicaps. Want to play shoot me a text. 270-945-9832

Pat La Rosa 12-17-2021 10:18 AM

I am 92 and play the white championship tees. I want my monies worth. I don't hit the drive more than 180 yds but I enjoy the challenge of shooting below my age when I play 18 holes. Most of the guys I play with only play 9 holes and I don't keep score but when I play 18 I keep my score and really enjoy the challenge of shooting in the 80's. Playing the green is kind of boring for me. I love playing my wedges to the green for most of my third shots and trying to make par on some of the longer holes. I think people should play the tees that they like as long as they don't slow up play. All the guys I play with are about 70 yrs old and they hit the ball pretty far so for me to play the green tees makes no sense. Hit them straight and enjoy golf from whatever tees you play. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

You might try playing mens day on either championship or executive courses. Good way to meet other golfers.

Handicap

Been here awhile. I’ve watched many low handicap golfers come here and be surprised that their handicap goes UP 5-6 strokes. A lot of championship courses from the white tees are rated below 110. If you play your normal game on a 106 rated course your handicap will properly go up.

Pat La Rosa 12-26-2021 10:16 AM

The courses up north where I played were rated between 118 and 128 slope. These courses are rated about 112 from the whites. It would seem to me that your handicap would go down not up since the courses here are easier than the courses up north. Most of these courses are wide open but to their credit the greens are a little tough to read and put since they have a lot of undulations and they put the pins in some difficult locations. Most of the courses up north are smaller and the greens are easier to read and putt. As old as I am I still enjoy playing the whites every day. Happy New Year and hit them straight.

Every time I post a score while playing in Florida it is a high handicap result, even though I feel I'm playing well. That's life!

I too am looking for a group to play with. I play already with a group on Sunday but they seem to have their own groups. I prefer not to bet and just have fun. I play the whites and shoot in the 80's. If you schedule a time next week I will meet up - my name is paul - email ptheib@gmail.
