Kin, homeowners insurance

Received an ad from kin homeowners insurance. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Bjeanj 12-19-2021 01:11 PM

There was a recent thread about this company. If you do a search, you should find it.

You will never know if your insurance is good until you file a claim

Yes, but as mentioned earlier - until you have a claim processed, you don't really know. I'd like to hear some testimonials (good or bad) about claim processing (if there are any).

I didn't find them to be any cheaper than my existing homeowner's insurance.

Who are you using? At renewal Many insurance policy’s increased anywhere from 20% to 50%. One of ours went up 61%.

We get our insurance from AAA - it went up, as did everyone's, so I went to the Kin website based on this forum. The quote they gave me was about $5 cheaper than existing. Our insurance had gone up 28%. We do have a relatively new roof, and no claims, I don't know if that makes a difference.

They are an agency. My rates went way up and I switched to people's trust, less coverage less cost

Interesting. Switched to kin in October. With my wind mitigation, my premium decreased by half from St Johns. We shall see when we need to put in a claim.

If I remember correctly they only write policies in a very limited number of states. They could be hit hard if Florida has a bad year of hurricanes or hail storms.

I have Kin homeowners insurance. Changes to the when my previous company, Coastal, raised the premium by 35%.
The Kin price includes sinkhole coverage as did my former policy. No claims to date but as previous poster said, you don’t really know until you have a claim.

They are not an insurance company they are an insurance broker.

Our insurance hadn't gone up as much as many people's have, so maybe we already had a really good rate. At any rate, I checked around with Kin and a few other companies, and couldn't find anything cheaper.

Agreed. I did a exact coverage to coverage comparison to our current insurer (Travelers through Villages Insurance) about 2 months ago when they were first mentioned here. Traveler's raised our rate $22, about 2%, this past July on renewal and around $10 the previous year and they (Kin) were about $25 less. Competitive but not worth taking a chance for $25. One never knows though because next July Travelers might triple my policy ???? It's a crap shoot with insurance rates around here.

gatorbill1 12-20-2021 11:39 AM

I went with Kin and they were 20% less than anything The Villages Insurance could find. Added flood insurance for $100. I know we are not in a flood zone, but nothing is normal right now with global warming going on.

Babubhat 12-20-2021 01:45 PM

Kin offers discount for taking depreciated value roof coverage. Make sure you have apples to apples comparison

Freeda 12-20-2021 11:26 PM

We went with Kin last year when our carrier through Geico stopped writing coverage in Florida. Kin was by far the least expensive, and was very professional to work with.

AAA has too much exposure to older roof clients, so rates are going up for all, more with older roofs. Bundle auto will reduce premium. Very little difference between company charges, but, who has the deepest pockets for claims.

Could not agree more. That is why we stay with USAA.

Kin and Farmers had best rates

Started looking for new home owners policy after my current one (Centauri) almost doubled. Farmers and Kin had the best rates I could find. Both needed a wind mitigation report but Farmers also needed a 4 point inspection (about $100), So I went with Kin.
