Fifty-sixty White Pelicans in Lynnhaven yesterday evening.
The Ultimate Snowbirds: White Pelicans Return to Florida
These White Pelicans were all grouped together just off the Belmont Golf Course's southwest lake. The 7th hole at Belmont. Belmont Golf Course - The Villages, Florida, United States of America | SwingU Quite a sight to behold. |
Their number has dwindled but there are still about 35 of these White Pelicans as of about two hours ago.

They seem to be moving around in Belvedere and Lynnhaven. I looked for them this afternoon and they had switched lakes with only about 7 at the 7th Hole on Belmont.

They came to visit in Orange Blossom area this past week. Such a treat to see them. Then when they leave there's always a lone one who hangs out by itself for an extra day. There's a lone wolf in every species!

Yes, yes, we saw them too. While driving back to Mallory from Glenview. Delightful!
|
I wonder if they settle ever by the Villages' dog parks or by Doggie Doo Run Run? Doggie Doo Run Run borders Fox Run on two sides.

The Pelicans are a beautiful and graceful
sight to see when they are in the air circling around looking for a pond to land on! |

Yes, they left several “gifts” on my lanai in the spirit of the season! Pelicans definitely have the spirit of giving!

If you fish the ponds, they are not a welcome sight. The flock synchronizes a sweep across a large area of a pond to herd fish into a shallow end up near shore and then feast. When one pond is cleaned out to their satisfaction they move on to the next. A great example of teamwork in nature. It seems that the "loners" on a pond are the scouts and are usually joined by the flock a day or two after the scouts arrive.

We have had a bunch in St, Catherine for the past week.

That is quite a way to adapt to the Villages done by these White Pelicans. I wonder how they communicate about where the ponds they have already have and those they have yet to do with all the many ponds in the Villages?

Hmmm, a lecture by someone who is confused by what constitutes golf course property? Perhaps you should check with an ambassador and report back. |
This original limerick was penned by Dixon Lanier Merritt in 1910 and reads:
A wonderful bird is the pelican; His bill will hold more than his belican. He can take in his beak Enough food for a week But I’m damned if I see how the helican! |
Once they fish out a pond they move on. Yesterday On my way to Havana, there were about 40 fishing the pond off Odell. Still there when I finished playing and lunched, but numbers had dwindled.
