Happy Winter Solstice?!

1 Attachment(s)
The winter solstice is already dreary due to it being the shortest daylight date of the year, but today it's even more so with this heavy rain. Anybody else having a drink way too early today?! I've also eaten the weirdest things. :ohdear:

fdpaq0580 12-21-2021 10:26 AM

Happy Winter Solstice to you, also.

For me, no early drinking, I'm driving. As to weird food, give me time. If the food isn't weird, the combination might be considered to be by some.
Let us ask that the new solar year be better than the last.

I've had my usual oatmeal and banana, so there's no way I'm hungry, but I dived in deep into trail mix (full of sweet stuff) then popcorn with butter and hot sauce. All with a goblet of white wine!!

La lamy 12-21-2021 10:38 AM

Then lentil stew. Now potato chips with more wine. Definite binge day.

fdpaq0580 12-21-2021 11:31 AM

Omg!

Somebody is eating out of boredom, sounds like. Here in Brownwood rain has stopped. So, maybe, take a walk??
Not sure what I will get to eat when we get home. My wife will let me know. These kinds of decisions are above my pay grade.
😃

Chi-Town 12-21-2021 11:53 AM

Days will be getting longer. Hallelujah.

Good idea, just went to get jigsaw puzzles, so that will help the boredom!

although the sunrise tomorrow (07.17) is a minute later than today (07.16) so enjoy the lie-in

it keeps getting later until the middle of January (07.22) but the later sunsets more than make up for this

Very dreary day, wife and I went over to the new Earth Fare this morning to exchange the Turkey we bought last week. It was pouring rain but very little traffic. I guess everyone stayed home. How about a holiday cocktail? (Definitely not for the diabetic.)

Does anybody drink these things? Besides me.
:)

Those are not my usual drink go to. Maybe a cranberry martini could be festive!

For me it's Tamale Time!

For many families, Christmastime means tamale time. From the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 12 through Three Kings' Day on Jan. 6, tamales are a culinary requirement.

Treated ourselves to a debate which is better Hennessy XO or Remy Martin XO during the presidential speech?

That sounds yummy! So, from whom do you get your tamales?

hat sound

I make them with family along with empanadas, pesole, menudo and various condiments but Trader Joe's sells them, both refrigerated and frozen.

I have had TJ’s and they are good, but two of the anesthesiologist brought homemade tamales for tonight’s midnight dinner. My made from scratch Red Velvet, was the starter, and the dessert….:a040:

Tamales seem to be a long process, maybe 2 hours, then eaten in 1 minute. HAHA That's a labor of love! Good for you. Can I get one? :icon_wink:

It’s why people have celebrated this time of year since the Stone Age. I, personally, am fed up with these dark days. Glad I’m no longer farther north!

If you want to fly over to NM, sure! I am over here with extended family. Making tamales around the kitchen table is a family tradition here.

We also make empanadas. The mincemeat ones are my favorite!

I was thinking the same thing. Will the grocer actually put it back in the freezer to sell!?

I am visiting my children in New York. The sunrise is about the same time as in Florida. The sunset, however, is an hour earlier than Florida. So our day is even shorter. I can’t wait to get home to Florida

Having lived where the sun sets in late October and doesn’t rise again until February, I celebrate Dec 21 because I know the days will get longer everyday. Conversely, I lament June 21.

No Earth Fare didn’t put it back for sale. Cheeesh. We bought the Turkey several days ago but forgot to look at the label. When we got home we noticed that it was a few days past the expiration date. They were very apologetic and exchanged it immediately. Earth Fare’s a great supermarket.
