More Xfinity deception
My monthly bill for 50Mbps internet has just gone from $20 to $49.
Occasionally I have success in negotiating it back down, but this time I decided to check what "offers" they have. For $1 per month extra I can get 100Mbps, which sounds like a good deal until I tried to lock it in. In actuality, I would have to sign up for $60 per month, then change from payment by credit card to bank account, and the rate would rocket after 12 months, none of which was highlighted in the original offer. |
brings back memories of the lyrics to that old "Captain and Tennille" song....

Every rate they have seems to be good for one or two years. Between up north and Florida I think I send them about $500 a month.
|
They raised us by about $ 20 in Jan at the end of our "two year contract". This was the second increase and when I questioned it got 5 minutes of gobblygook that made no sense to me.
When I asked about changing rate before we left the girl pretty much said bye. When I asked if this is dept to help keep customers before they left she said yes it was. Just like our internet/cable provider in Va they have the policy of talking nonsense so customer knows less than they did before after the phone call. |
Xfinity's pricing scheme operates on a one-year or two-year contract agreement. These agreements always include monthly discounts. But, when the agreement period ends, the discounts are automatically removed from the bill. So, it is important to know when your agreement expires, and to set up a new agreement before the old agreement expires. You should do it in person, not on the phone. I recently went to the Xfinity store and started a new two-year agreement, my monthly cost actually went down, and I increased my internet speed from 400 mbps to 600 mbps. One reason that Xfinity has a bad reputation is that many customers forget that they have a contract. So, when the discounts are removed, they think that Xfinity arbitrarily raised their price.

This is nothing new and it's not deceptive. Insurance companies do it all the time and call it an introductory rate. They sign you cheap and then slam with the real rate in 6 months or a year. Buyer beware....

I got my previous $49 rate cut to $20 by going into the store (Rolling Acres) and asking about adding a phone, so I'll try that again once the snow has thawed. |

That's what I do every year. At the end of the year, ALWAYS call them. That's how the deal works. |

Or you could sign up for Centurylink $45/mo internet access for life and be done with it. Cutting the cable is the only way to go forward folks.

Yep.. Just did it to me up North. The Rep didn't want to negotiate this time. I called four different times, and the last time I got a very nice lady and my price actually went down quite a bit.
I honestly think it's who you talk to. So if you can't get the rate with the person you're on the phone with, hang up and call again. I hate playing these games but sometimes you have to do it. A very time consuming and aggravating game they make you play. They don't even let you change your plan online they make you call. Then they spout rates off on the phone and you have no idea what you're getting. đ |
100mbps cost me $80 - it was lower the first year.

That's the problem with utilities that are considered not utilities in other words your cable companies. Please note that 5G is rolling out and over the next year or two there will be a lot of competition from the phone company selling cable service through your phone in other words you can cast your phone to your TV that's what they're all worried about so for now they're going to try to upcharge everybody and make as many billions as I can
|
The same antics they been using for years , thatâs why I use Century Link. Same price 940 mbps . Had to renegotiate every few months with Exfinity /ComCast

Cord cutting
Easy peasy. Find an internet only service provider. Xfinity, Century link, ATT.. there are many. Get the best deal. 100Mb is plenty.
Buy a Roku 4k off Amazon or Walmart if you prefer. It plugs into an HDMI port on your tv. (It comes with a voice remote and costs about $40 (one time purchase) Register the Roku (you have to give it access to your Wi-Fi.) On your phone or computer go to youtubetv.com (they have a 2 week trial and 3 month discount going). It will cost you about $70 a month with tax. Gets all local channels plus a ton of other stuff. The full list is on their website. Once you open the youtubetv app on the Roku, follow the on screen instructions. There are tons of help faqâs on both Roku and YoutubeTV sites to help. Itâs really easy. Watch tv! You can put a ROKU on each tv and use your login to watch on any TV or computer with no extra charge. You can add things like HBO, etc, but be careful, you can run your monthly bill up pretty quickly at $10 a month for most of those services. |

Not just who you talk to. Itâs how you talk to them in a calm manner. Nobody likes to be yelled at.

If Xfinity don't agree to drop the price I shall looking into replacing whatever wiring needs doing - I suspect it won't be too much as I only need one active socket for the modem to plug into. |
I called the Geek Squad at Best Buy. They came in and set up U-Tube TV, Net Flix, and Show Time on a Roku. I can't avoid Xfinity for the internet, but the cable service is great.

Happens all the time with Infinity
Yes, many companies do this, but Infinity is one of the worst. Dumped them last year.

Look into T-mobile Cellular intrenet for a Streaming service. ($55)
No cord needed. Most who "cut-the-cord" still use that "cord" for internet access to be able to stream. |

Soon Sattelite Broadband will be available. For the first few years your $80/mo internet bill will be only $40/mo as they try to build their customer base. Skip |

When we purchased our home in TV last year, the only internet providers we could find were Xfinity and Centurylink. The top speed that Centurylink quoted for our home was 3 MBPS and since I was use to 1GBPS at my home in GA, that didn't sound like enough to handle a tv, my pc, and my wife's laptop all at the same time. How would you rate the Centurylink service if you have multiple devices running? |
