Not planning to watch the Olympics

I almost hate to admit this, but not enticed at all to watch the Winter Olympics coming up. With all the negatives re China the last few years. The USA is not sending gvt reps to China and NBC limiting number of reporters and announcers. From what I heard much of their broadcasting will be from the USA.
And our athletes were warned about speaking out about China and communications while in the country.
So I personally will drastically limit or avoid watching at all. China was rewarded with the ‘22 Olympics despite many human rights and international issues

Do others here have concerns about China hosting and decided to limit or not view???? Is it just me?

I will watch the events that I am interested in seeing. Will definitely watch all the figure skating.

Sports and science are two areas that tend to bring nations together and such co-operation should be encouraged.

If you don't like China then I suggest a better way of protesting would be not buying its products. You can continue to do this long after the Olympics are over.

Most definitely I will watch the opening to closing.
It's about International Sports and competition.
Routing for the Jamaican Bobsled team after missing for 24 years.
I watch the NFL too!

Babubhat 01-29-2022 12:33 PM

Even less interesting than NBA

Two Bills 01-29-2022 12:34 PM

I never was one to cut my nose off to spite my face.
Will watch, and enjoy.
MTC.

Excellent.

Caymus 01-29-2022 12:48 PM

Since it is a 13-hour time difference, most if not all will be tape delayed. I may watch if something interesting happens. I do like the snowboarding.

MrFlorida 01-29-2022 02:07 PM

When the athletes started making political statements, that's when I stopped watching.

davem4616 01-29-2022 02:42 PM

wife always liked the ice skating...if we know when that's being broadcast we'll tune in

Mortal1 01-29-2022 04:35 PM

well one person suggested not buying china's products...tell me how that goes please.

another feels it's cutting off ones nose to spite their face...the comparison of things you choose not to do that would spite your face in no way compares to not supporting olympics held in a country that has forced labor, sweat shops, population control, mass murder and a dictatorship gov't. that's to name a few. so please watch the olympics and support china's world view.

no I won't watch. can't talk about the Chinese gov't while there??? really????? it's 2022 folks. if you support the olympics that have been nationalized by china go for it. I hope you get to experience what the Chinese people do on a day to day basis.

Sure. All about chinachinachina. And what a great country it is. Sorry, that commercial does not ring true. I definitely will not watch, especially THAT.

billlaur 01-29-2022 08:19 PM

NO WAY JOSE I cut NBC off the tv:bigbow::bigbow:

fdpaq0580 01-29-2022 08:51 PM

Well, here we are.

Although not a big Olympics fan, I do like some of the events. Olympics is the only time we get to see some of these events. I will watch some, perhaps. Can't say anything good about their government, but the regular people aren't any better or worse than folks from anywhere else from what I've experienced.
And I thought the idea was to support your home team, athletes from the USA. Having to represent us while stuck behind the Bamboo Curtain, believing we have their backs, at least in spirit, may help some of them deal with the stress.
GO TEAM USA! Have a wonderful and successful Olympics!
🇺🇸🏂🎿😀😃🇺🇸

Professor 01-30-2022 05:56 AM

The Olympics is about the athletes and we will watch with enthusiasm. Could care less what country hosts the events...

tsmall22204 01-30-2022 05:59 AM

You show them. You not watching will bring the Olympics to their knees.

i agree. Not feeling stir fryed up to watch this peking duck & their general tsao's
propaganda take or delivery.
How about a marathon to wuhan 721 miles to the south for some take out on whats happening there.

thevillages2013 01-30-2022 06:19 AM

Wouldn’t watch if I were paid good money. The Olympic committee should have never allowed the games to be held there. Are there new sports in the winter games like the newly added break dancing in the summer games. Maybe snow angel competition? Also I don’t like “sports” where someone’s opinion of how well they performed creates their score. I’M OUT

Susan1717 01-30-2022 06:40 AM

I will definitely NOT watch anything in that country!

Ewalsh43 01-30-2022 06:48 AM

Suprised

Suprised they let you post this. Sure political overtones.

GOLFER54 01-30-2022 06:55 AM

I’ll watch it for only a hour, then I’ll be hungry again.

Not to mention release of a pathogen that has caused a global pandemic and covering up about it.

RouseysMom 01-30-2022 07:04 AM

No.

I’m only one person but no, I will not be watching. I’m just sick we are sending our athletes to China. They were advised to not bring personal cell phones and to get a burner phone, that they destroy or leave in China. I’m afraid their DNA will be collected. We are sending our very best athletes, the most special human specimens and I’m afraid specimens is what they will be. We are sending them, when they have worked with a dedication of their whole lives to reach this goal, with no protection. Shame on the IOC and shame on our government. So no, I won’t be watching. I wish our athletes the best and will happily watch competition from just about anywhere else on earth. But no.

They obviously own the Olympic committee

It's just you. We are all 1 family on this planet. Peace.

Ptmckiou 01-30-2022 08:41 AM

Seriously? You do know the whole reason Rome created the Olympics was to try and bring together other countries. I will definitely be watching. Also, if you know your history, China was much worse 20+ years ago. They continue to improve their ancient culture. Don’t try to make them something they are not. American culture is only about 254 years old, but China’s is 5000+ years.

Marathon Man 01-30-2022 08:52 AM

I love the Olympics and will be watching. My desire to support and cheer on Team USA is much greater than any anger that I might feel for another country. But that's just me.

Besides, the business part of the Olympics is complete. Choosing to watch or not watch changes nothing.

rrtjp 01-30-2022 08:53 AM

Lol

RPDaly 01-30-2022 08:57 AM

History repeats. It will be like watching 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Germany all over gain with concentration camps up beyond the horizon. Shameful!

what??? You must be kidding. As said on ToTV before one can make politics out of anything.

terenceanne 01-30-2022 09:00 AM

Easy for me to say I will not be watching since I probably watched 30 minutes of it in the last 40 years. NBC have paid hundreds of millions for the rights and in turn all the advertisers paying in so that you the viewer will be suckered in. Stand by your principles or not.

JanetMM 01-30-2022 09:02 AM

Everyone has a reason they WILL or WON’T watch the Olympics. Whether anyone else agrees or not, everyone’s feelings are valid. I am glad to see that most everyone expressed their own opinion and did not put others down for having a different opinion. Nice job!

Beat me to this and can not recall anything worse since then, except for the Munich summer games. That incident was terrorism as opposed to what the Americans did.
