Commando - Wikipedia

Commandos would be better and more appropriate as the coach and other employees call a lot of the plays along with the quarterback. You do not have a lot of leaders on a football field at game time. Maybe off the field but it would be chaos if a lot of NFL players were managing the plays at the same time.

MrFlorida 02-02-2022 11:00 AM

Just plain "Washington" was better.

PugMom 02-02-2022 11:04 AM

give it time; they will find something wrong with this new name, too

I'm waiting for the objection to the "Master's Tournament". Perhaps, like the Redskins, they could go for "The Augusta Golf Tournament". Then later change it to "The Augusta Azaleas" :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

MDLNB 02-02-2022 11:10 AM

Commanders is biased against enlisted military members. Should have named them, the "Washington Swamp Things."

Two Bills 02-02-2022 11:34 AM

Should have just dropped the 'Redskins' part of the name.
Commanders is degrading to the commanded.
CLM. (Commanded lives matter!):icon_wink:

Stu from NYC 02-02-2022 11:56 AM

Talk to an American Indian, vast majority have no problem with Redskin in the name.

Ridiculous changing all of these names.

Already the Dan Snyder haters have begun calling the team "The Commies."

mrf0151 02-02-2022 12:03 PM

Next in line will be the "Chiefs" for the Woke brains.

Not without the Cleveland Indians to balance it:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Then, the Atlanta Braves should be changed by the Washington cowards:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Not fair to call them the chiefs discriminates against the lowly Indian Braves

Nah. The Alligators would complain. It's pretty humiliating even for an alligator (or turtle, or mosquito, or whateverthehellitis that is being referred to), to be called a "thing".

There'd be riots and everything!

Should have kept the name and changed the mascot.

Exactly! Of course, that would be discriminating against the White Potatoes or the Sweet Potatoes. Although, they could have left the "skins" part and just added "Fore" on the front.............:1rotfl:

It seems that most sports team names have something to do with the city or area in which the team is located. Yes, there are some that are named after animals but think of the Yankees, Tampa Bay Lightning, New England Patriots, San Fran 49ers, Boston Celtics, Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks.

Why not something like the Washington Congress, Presidents, Monuments.

Commanders doesn't seem to have anything to do with anything.

Well, the "Commander" in Chief does live in DC... :icon_wink:

Gulfcoast 02-02-2022 04:55 PM

Bleh. My team no longer exists. RIP.

tophcfa 02-02-2022 05:48 PM

Should have changed the name to the pigskins. Why not, then they could still simply be called the skins for short. Oh, I forgot, that would be offensive to the swine community. Never mind.

Chi-Town 02-02-2022 09:47 PM

I'm all for the Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Chief's having their names changed. Not for any political or racial reason; just to not have to hear or see the tomahawk chop.

Don’t watch ! GO BRAVES chop til you drop. ( That’s World Series champion Braves)

36Aday 02-03-2022 07:46 AM

All of the name changes are a joke. These were complements. Redskins Indians etc

Commanders? Maybe better than Ensigns, or ButterBar Boys?

Bay Kid 02-03-2022 07:50 AM

At first I thought maybe The Washington Chichen S___, but really they should be The Washington Pacifiers.

terenceanne 02-03-2022 07:59 AM

If Washington fans had any principles, they would have stopped watching that junk years ago. Teams can do whatever they want while the stupid public keeps spending money on it.

Most fitting would be : Muckrackers.

ProfessorDave 02-03-2022 08:36 AM

Minority here: I like the name. Commanders. "Take Charge - Achieve Objectives - Win"

PoolBrews 02-03-2022 08:37 AM

What made me laugh is that when they revealed the name, they showed a new logo stating "Washington Commanders", and in the logo it says Established 1932.

That is completely incorrect. You gave up your 1932 designation when you caved and pulled the actual team name that was established in 1932. It should read established 2022.

HTTR from a 55 year fan. Will always be Redskins to me. Only change needed was ownership.

maybe it's me, but i see the Redskins as a positive name, i never saw any 'race' in it. to be as powerful & strong as an indian is a good thing.

bilcon 02-03-2022 09:14 AM

I thought they would change their name because of the negative connotation. I really thought they would change it to The "Virginia Redskins".

Regorp 02-03-2022 09:18 AM

They renamed my beloved Cleveland Indians the Guardians!

Richpetty42 02-03-2022 09:58 AM

Tired of all the woke/PC mess

They shouldn’t have changed the name anyway. For decades teams have had names like this and not a person had issues with it.
Now this wokeness movement has come along & can’t do anything without trying not to “offend” anyone.
I’m of Irish decent & the Boston Celtics have been a favorite team of mine going back to the Larry Bird days & that’s still one of my favorite basketball teams of mine but I’m not crying because they use Irish themes for their team/merchandise. Goodness what’s the harm?
Don’t give into this woke/PC garage & just have fun watching a game, it offends me to have to put up with this movement, why don’t those who started it think about that?
