Plans with the lowest reimbursements don't get you access to the best medical care.

IMHO, be real careful about giving up on original Medicare and supplemental, you may or may not be able to go back. I would suggest a discussion with SHINE to get unbiased information on advantage versus supplemental plans. We found that supplemental would not work for us.

You have to go through medical qualification. That's why people with any medical issues shy away from Advantage plans when first going on Medicare. |

Do not get an advantage plan. If you are a snowbird, you only get emergency coverage when you go back home. not for your primary doc. In addition, only certain dentists, eye docs accept it and may not have an office near you and if you find they are not up to your standards, you are screwed. My premiums for the year for supplemental is cheaper than an advantage plan and I don't have any deductible, co-pay, and no referrals and is accepted everywhere. In case of emergency, you may have to pay a lot for coverage and I would rather have peace of mind knowing I am 100% covered. They make these advantage plans sound so good, but in reality they are not. Go speak with the people at SHINE for honest information, NOT an insurance agent. For UHC I pay $192/month about $2400/year. What is your deductible and add in co-pays and referrals needed? Think about it. Well worth it for peace of mind.

I belong to the VHS and have AARP Medicare Advantage from UnitedHealthcare PPO (not HMO). It is extremely flexible letting one pick their own specialist without referrals and at worst case one can go to other institutions and most likely pay an out of network price up to the OOP. We also have a seasonal home in New York State and summer 2020 my wife had medical issues that tallied up to well over $300K (after their funny math). Every single bill including 3 hospitals, ambulance, specialists. doctors, etc. were in network. |

You paid $2400? I paid $183 out of pocket last year. Explain how that is cheaper. Not all MA plans are the same. I have worldwide emergency care. Referrals? Why is that such a big deal? If my PCP recommends a specialist for an issue, that saves me time trying to find someone qualified. |
Shut down the commercials!
Very misleading |
Remember the annoying Reverse Mortgage guy who used to post all the time on here? Is this going to be just like him?

Is the OP fee based or commission driven?
In my experience most commission driven people try to sell what provides them with the highest commission, not what is necessarily best for the customer. |
Explain to me why Medicare covers every body part except teeth. Many older people spend more money on dentists than anything else.

Medicare Supplement
Medicare supplement plans offer enticements like free gym memberships, return of $$$ each month as reimbursement, rides to appointments, dental coverage, reduced price medications and the list goes on.
Many issues are not revealed in the teasers: In most cases YOU MUST stay within the network using doctors and facilities that are within the plan’s scope. It also depends on the zip code you live in as to how much reimbursement you receive, if any. All the freebies they entice you with are also subject to the geographical area you live in based on available amenities. Although they entice you with all the different offerings it will PAY YOU TO RESEARCH ALL THE BENEFITS AND DETRIMENTS of these plans to find out how you will be restricted in the use of the plan you are considering. If you don’t know thoroughly what you are getting into, you may regret it later. Going back to Medicare later will take at least another open enrollment period to come up. You also may be paying a higher Medicare premium when going back because you have had a break in service to the Medicare plan. The old adage of “buyer beware” holds true with these and other enticement plans. You don’t think these plans are being offered for your benefit, do you? They are in this business to MAKE MONEY on you. So keep your wits about you and don’t fall for some fast talking “sales” person who promises the moon. If it sounds |
