so sad....what's the rush at this stage of life
|
Not every who drives in TV is retired. It is sad though. Way too many people exceeding the speed limits.

The victim was 29 years old. |
I saw nothing in the cited article that stated or even implied that speeding was the cause.

My point is that an assertion was made that speeding was the cause of the accident when there was no mention of that in the initial report. So how does your statement about speeding being rampant have anything to do with that? |
I was driving south on Buena Vista after this intersection Monday doing 45 and got passed by a Sheriffs Dept SUV doing at least 50 with no lights (lucky me)

Speed is not as rampant as BAD drivers!
|
Speeding is running rampant in the Villages along with failure to use turn signals,
|
I named it the “Race Track”, seems fitting!

Move on folks, just not more than 10 mph. |
Don’t know how to navigate roundabouts is much more dangerous than going a few miles per hour faster than the speed limit. I’ll bet 40% of the people in TV don’t know how to navigate the roundabouts.

Never ban high performance cars, just low performance drivers.

Stay safe everyone. |
Took me 2 months to navigate the Roundabouts - I still try to avoid them
I prefer lights and stop signs anytime over Roundabouts. I avoid Buena Vista Blvd as much as possible! I’ve been here 3 months and still don’t like them.

Perhaps some people are on their way to an event and don't want to sit behind those traveling 15 mph or less in a golf cart.

"failure to use turn signals"
"Failure to use turn signals!" Using signals is key to avoiding collisions especially if you intend to exit a circle from the inner lane. Please let the drivers in the circle know which way you're going.

Was this incident a golf cart - auto mishap? Such accidents generally have nothing to do with speeding. My observation is that many Villagers drive like 'old people,' and probably shouldn't be on the roads. Golf carts do not have the right of way, and yes, too many drivers never use their turn signal.

There is still something missing here? Unless there was some medical emergency, speed DEFINITELY must have been involved?! As a former EMT(another state/another life), I've witnessed many accidents(some critical/some fatal). And, although you can read info about the possibility of fatalities occurring at low/medium speeds, those are EXTREMELY rare! Even 45-50(lest she drove straight in without any braking), and a seat belt NOT on, that would even be a bit rare to die(on the scene)? I guess we'll wait for more info to come out, and obviously pray for her and family/friends. Sad!

Golf cart do have the right way in certain situations. Good example golf cart traveling down diamond lane and you setting at stop sign. You HAVE to yield to ALL oncoming traffic whether it be golf cart, biker or jogger/walker. |

As you know, accidents, some minor, critical, & fatal, happen at all speeds, for all reasons; age, (minor or senior), distractions, health, weather, trying to avoid another driver, zoning out, just not paying attention, etc. Unfortunate example: My mom was killed while sitting at a red light, in the passenger seat, with her seatbelt on by some female, with her 3-week-old baby in the backseat, going 43 miles per hour. The person that killed her was on her phone. When it was in the Village News / online, there were several comments made about how old people shouldn't drive, they were old, didn't know how to drive, etc. A friend of the family had to keep posting that my mom was minding her own business STOPPED at a red light. (EviesGP, this is not directed at/towards you) So instead of everyone judging / assuming / guesstimating / pointing fingers, blaming the accident on this & on that, being judge & jury, let's remember a young life was lost, no matter the reason, that's irrelevant. Someone just lost a child. What if a child just lost their dad? What if he had pets at home? Wife? Bottom line, it's sad when ANY person loses their life. We do not know what happened, we may never know, and leave it at that. I was taught never to assume. It makes an ass out of you & me. |
This was on Buena Vista. No golf carts there. The last update I saw was 29 year old female lost control of her car left the roadway and hit a tree.

Comment from someone who says they were a witness to the accident.
May throw some light on some of the speculation on what happened. From online news that is nameless. I witnessed the accident last night….she was in the passing line going about 40 mph I think. Her tires hit the curve and it threw her completely around facing the opposite way. A large tree was immediately in front of her. She hit it so hard her hood flew off and the battery Landed in front of our car. She died of impact…was still behind the wheel with airbag deployed. She had no pulse at all. I must say ER vehicles arrrived within 3 minutes of our call. I’m still shaking, it happened so fast. |

The sad result of over confidence in skill set driver thought they had but obviously did not, and disregard for posted max safe legal speed limit are the cause of the fatal accident. |
