Super Bowl Commercials

For the last several years I have gone to USAtoday.com to access their Ad Meter for the SB commercials. As I just did earlier today. There will be 60+ commercials before, during, post SB. And they have about 40 available to see and rate right now. BTW it's free but you need to sign up which is very easy.

That said the about-40 that I viewed on their site....not impressed at all. They can be rated 1-10. I only rated one a ten, a couple nine, a couple eight. But the vast majority two or one. Many paid big bucks for stars etc etc. Many only mentioned the sponsor at the end. Many tried humor which IMO fell so flat. And it's easy to see that almost all were extremely "racially inclusive" if you know what I mean.

I must really be getting old as I crave for the cute, funny, expressive commercials. You know the Budweiser, solid car ads, funny animals etc. Seems that so many new one are focused on the X generation, Mellenials, or yuppies as we used to say.

I used to look forward to the commercials during SB, they only time in the entire year I watch ads.

Will be interested to see the final tally of the scores Monday when USA TODAY publishes them. But NOT looking forward to actually seeing most of the during SB?..

Those are the demographic groups that can still be influenced by commercials. Advertisers are not as interested in older groups.

If they get to annoying dvr the game come back in say an hour and zap the commercials

tophcfa 02-12-2022 11:56 PM

Not sure what’s worse, commercials about electric vehicles and crypto, or a rapper at halftime. People our age clearly are no longer the target demographic.

DylanTodd 02-13-2022 02:45 AM

Your never too old for crypto!

Sadly the ones featured “rap” about killing police, hoes and other unsavory lyrics . Poor choice of entertainers.

Petersweeney 02-13-2022 07:04 AM

Stopped watching football a few years ago, I’d rather clean the garage.

They advertisers don’t get it. We are the generation with disposable income, millennials don’t have any money. Surprising amount of them are still living at home, even in their 30’s.

Kick your kids out of the house

WindyCityzen 02-13-2022 07:46 AM

Yes, you’re getting old. And a few other things are pretty clear. Face it, you are no longer what sells.

For the past few years I have really started to notice that commercials no longer made sense, then I realized that I’m a mid 60’s baby boomer and no longer the demographic powerhouse I once was. Commercials today are geared toward mellinials. Good luck understanding them.

You must know more then most people. Went Latest World & National News & Headlines - USATODAY.com and found nothing about rating commercials.

Saw Tom Selleck pushing reverse mortgages a couple years ago then I read in AARP some people lost their houses when they couldn't pay their tax not to mention huge cost to get the mortgage. Just a couple weeks ago Tom Selleck pushing reverse mortgages with a emotional some people say this is a ripoff I would never back .... AARP mag last month HIS mortgage company lost a suit saying to over estimated the value of the houses to get people to sign

CoachKandSportsguy 02-13-2022 08:52 AM

no matter how you want to rationalize it, athletes become present day irrelevant after 40, seniors after 70, maybe earlier, overtaken by age and time, and mortgages can bankrupt you accidently. . through no fault of your own, but by being overtaken by events.

sail33or 02-13-2022 08:53 AM

Halftime show is HIP HOP RAP ONLY. That should tell you all you need to know.

davem4616 02-13-2022 09:21 AM

there was a time when watching the SB commercials were as much fun as the game

Never understood why people would buy something just because some so called celebrity was extolling its virtues.

Whatever happened to cousin Brucie who kept telling us this is the best thing since sliced bread.

LynneH 02-13-2022 09:31 AM

Marketing isn't geared toward our demographics any longer except after 9pm

Thanks for the link. I never knew I could share my opinion and rate advertisements.

When I saw the halftime show lineup I thought to myself, "Uh oh...... Villagers aren't going to like this." LOL, right again.

I haven’t seen the commercials but heard they’re awful. Did see show about the top 10 of years past.. they were great.. to bad they too have changed ☹️

OhioBuckeye 02-13-2022 10:20 AM

I’m surprised you’re more concerned about commercials instead of million dollar football players disrespecting our flag & military by taking a knee during the National Anthem. I would rather watch commercials than watching a cry baby player kneeling. You got every right to your opinion, but so do I. GO BENGALS!

Me too. I stopped watching when they started kneeling for the National Anthem. My garage is really really really clean.

I like the one where the husband is a fool and the wife sets him straight!

And the one where the white guys is a doofus and his person-of-color neighbor shows him how it's done!

So glad our gens went a different route than your description. We bought homes in TV, so our parents could spend their winter’s in Florida, rent free, keeping their nest egg safe.

Our children have purchased 2 coastal vacation home for us and family to use wherever we want, rent free. Our premed granddaughter is saving to buy a vaca home so family can have fun times together. Of course med school was worth every penny for our children. So glad our children don’t come close to what you are experiencing or think others have experienced. So sad to lump so many into a group that you have deemed worthless.

Guess we chose wisely

Babubhat 02-13-2022 12:30 PM

Waiting for the performers to insult each other with resulting chaos.

Some kneel to "pray" to a mythical spirit in the sky, so why is kneeling during the National Anthem unacceptable?

They're not kneeling to pray. It's all about disrespecting the AMERICAN FLAG.

I don't particularly like College coaches making 6 plus million dollars per year. Or the idea that college players should be paid like professionals. Or the Miami Dolphins REALLY being OWNED by some clown, rich, individual jerk. Or Any other city or sport PRETENDING to be a part of that city's heritage when REALLY a single individual or small group owns them and bleeds away PROFITS that should go into the revenue of that particular city. There are also sweetheart deals where some city builds a giant stadium just for one rich jerk owner.
........Money in Sports leads to corruption, excessive gambling, and spectators being turned off. All efforts SHOULD be made to keep sports as PURE as possible. I realize that this is very idealistic, yet we have gone so far away from the basic concept of PURE sports for character building that I doubt that it is possible to return to an uncorrupted era!

Wouldnt it be interesting if fusion is quickly developed and can be used in cars and all this money on electric vehicles was wasted.
