Something you used to own?

What is something you used to own (now lost, stolen, sold, discarded, given away, etc.) that you wish you still had?

Ajack 10-25-2010 10:57 AM

I lost a picture album while moving in the 70's that had some great pictures taken in the jungles of Vietnam.:cryin2:

I used to have the original Barbie Doll. My Mom gave it away when I was at college. Now it's valuable. Somehow she missed the original Ken, with felt blond hair. I still have him. Wouldn't you know it though. He isn't worth much! :cryin2:

Of all the things I've every lost - I miss my mind the most.

Around the age of 10 or 11, I traded a shoebox full of baseball cards for a pile of toy soldiers. I still have visions of that shoebox, and how many valuable cards there might have been in there (Mickey Mantle's rookie card maybe?).

I was doing the morning show on KCKN in Kansas City in 1978. An American Indian inmate of the Leavenworth Federal penitentiary apparently listened to my show every day. He sent me an authentic Indian beaded necklace made out of thousands of tiny beads with my name and the call letters of the station in the pattern. He made it himself bead by bead. When we moved from Kansas City to Albany, NY, it was lost in the move.

It was a lot like this one, but with my name and KCKN embedded in the handmade pattern.

I sold my 1974 Triumph TR6 in impeccable condition to my brother, who trashed it. Sure loved that little white convertible with the black rag top. Wish I could drive it now . . .

Similar story for me. I went off to college.........and my mom tossed out my baseball card and comic book collections (from the late 50s/early 60s). Bummer.

We've also sold off numerous muscle cars, etc. over the years. Sure wish I had some of them back! But they were all sold for good reason - made perfect sense at the time, anyways!! Such is life..... :)

Wish I had kept my beautiful white Buick Riviera; loved that car for ten years and gave it to my stepdaughter who in turn drove it a few years and sold it for a new car.

Wish I had kept it especially when when I learned that they stopped making that model the year I gave mine away. Now obviously a collectors' item.

Oh well, at this stage in my life, the golf cart is just fine. :crap2:

TommyT 10-25-2010 12:51 PM

I sold it

My 2006 Honda Goldwing Motorcycle, fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. Titanium was the color and had a matching in color trailer.

Sure wish I had it. :cryin2:

1. My baseball card collection - I was a huge Mickey Mantle fan and had dozens of his cards - gave it to my nephew, and my sis ultimately sold in a garage sale. :cus:

2. My 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible - white with black top.:evil6:

My brother and I shared a room growing up. When I went away to college, her threw out all my yearbooks, photos, and other keepsakes because he wanted more room. Since my family moved a lot, these were the only things I could look at to remember old friends and places.

taylor111947 10-25-2010 01:20 PM

My '68 TR250 convertible - my first car and the beginning of my love affair with sports cars. I recently considered reverting back to my youth and trading in my SUV for a sports car, but then I drove my son's Nisaan 240Z and found I couldn't get in and out of it without a lot of creaks and groans. Guess the golf cart will have to suffice - at least I can feel the wind in my hair!

RichieLion 10-25-2010 03:22 PM

My collection of hundreds and hundreds of Marvel Comic books that my mother let a backstabbing cousin of mine take when I was deployed in Viet Nam. She thought I wouldn't be interested in such "kid stuff" any more. My cousin, a fellow comic book collector, who knew the value of my collection and my love of them, took them anyway. I was informed of all this after many years, as no one had the backbone to tell me. It was too late to recover my property at that point as my cousin was deceased for some years.

dgammon6 10-25-2010 04:16 PM

My 1952 Ford I had in High School.

I own that exact same bike. Color, year, nav, abs. It is a great ride. If you ever want to come over to pet it let me know, I live in Buttonwood.:cryin2:

petenj 10-26-2010 07:30 AM

I owned a '64 Mustang. Put 135,000 miles on it before selling it. I sold it in '75 to buy a commercial lawnmower to feed the family.

getdul981 10-26-2010 08:23 AM

My 1969 Dodge Super Bee. Had to trade it in 1973 when the gas shortage took effect. I had 2 gas guzzlers at the time and one had to go.

Chopper 10-26-2010 08:32 AM

I wish I still had my '73 VW Thing. It didn't have any creature comforts but it sure was fun to drive, especially with the top down and the doors removed.

Ajack 10-26-2010 08:37 AM

I still daydream about my 57' Ford convertible, red with a white top.

That was my first car also. I remember I could wind first gear all the way up to about 7 mph. Fully floored petal to the metal it would do 84mph.

A 1967 Pontiac Firebird Convertiable

2BNTV 10-26-2010 12:51 PM

I sure wished I hadn't thrown out my baseball cards. Mickey Mantle rookie card could have been sold for a $100,000. A Honus Wagner card was sold for a cool million bucks, (not that I had one).

Who knew???

I lost a collection of CD's of the great saloon singers, (Frank Sinatra with Tommy Dorsey, Tony Bennett, Billy Eckstein, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, etc), that I really liked. Hopefully, I can replace them when I know where to find them. There used to be a flea market in Hartford CT that I bought most of them but I can't remember the name.

Senior Moment - I'll never forget what's its name.

2newyorkers 10-26-2010 05:19 PM

My original Barbie doll and the clothes my mom had sewn for her.

cartwheel 10-26-2010 05:33 PM

I miss my '61 T-bird that had only 46,000 miles, owned it for 25 years, but no place to store it at my home in Summerhill.:grumpy:

Bottaboom 10-26-2010 05:53 PM

All of my muscle cars, all of my old toys especially my Rockum-Sockum robot and my wood burning set.

My high school ring. I took it off while I was washing my hands at the high school I attended, and someone took it.

:(

First year 67 Firebird 400
the only year with front quarter windows- the ones that 'air conditioned' you and were used for a grab bar.
Stylish, but the worst traction imaginable until we sandbagged the already tiny trunk.
Blue w/ black vinyl top (yuck to vinyl tops)

L (without L then)

Back in the late 60's I saved up my pennies and bought a new Gibson J-45 acoustic guitar for $250. I played it for about 2 years and then joined (yet another) rock band and sold it to a buddy to buy a Fender Strat. Wish I still had the Gibson. A new one retails now for about $2500, and a vintage one like I had if it's in good condition is worth at least twice that. Plus it was the nicest playing guitar I ever owned. Sigh.............

scarecrow1 10-27-2010 10:35 AM

the thing I miss the most is my mother and father .

Dirigo 10-27-2010 11:20 AM

My '66 Chevy Malibu 2-door hartop. Yellow with a black interior. I admired that car as a teen when our neighbor owned it. He traded it and two years later it showed up in a used car lot a couple of towns over. I bought it immediately. Never should have sold that car. I still have dreams that I kept it and wake up sad that I didn't.
