Blepharoplasty
I am hiding in my house. It has been a week. (That is why I am posting even more dissertations on TOTV than usual.)
I did it! I finally did it! I had my eyelids done. And I do not have that look of perpetual surprise. I do not look weirdly alert. The bruising is almost gone. The swelling is almost gone. I always heal fast so I am. I am still doing the frozen peas routine, just not as often. Longer than the instructions said though. And although I guess I do not have to sleep propped up now that the week is over, I probably still will for a few more days. (I think I must be trying to be one of those over-achiever types.) By the weekend, I might be ready to nonchalantly appear in public. Wearing sunglasses to social things indoors though might just look suspicious. I think I am supposed to wait a month before I am allowed to put on mascara and eyeliner. I will know for sure next week at the post-op visit. Anybody reading this want to volunteer how long they had to wait to put on a little eye makeup? It looks like my only regret will be that I did not do this sooner. I did not do this in TV. I am in my hometown right now where I know the territory and could ask at least 5 people who to go to. But I thought maybe others here might want to share their blepharoplasty experiences and recommendations. Nobody can see us here so nobody can scrutinize the work. I love being anonymous on TOTV. Boomer (lookin’ just like my senior picture. . .hmmmm, maybe I should change my high school hairstyle though. ;) ) |
Good for you!
A few male friends of mine have had that surgery as their eyelids drooped over their pupils. Medicare paid. Many female friends over the years have had their eyes done, most for cosmetic reasons. Some were way overdone. My girlfriend at the time could not close here eyes fully to sleep for a few weeks, lol. Some I could hardly tell there had been plastic surgery as their eyes looked very natural. I was relieved to read you chose your surgeon carefully! |
I had mine done ages ago, might be ready to do it again. The one thing that I remember was the surgeon told me to close my eyelids while he made the first incision. I could then see despite that my eyes were closed!

When do we get to see the before and after pictures??

Nevah! Nevahh! Nevahhh! :) Nice try, tinker. I took an eyes-only selfie before though. Getting there on the after. Boomer Anon |
Thats what I figured, just had to pull your chain, have a great day.

Oh, my! You were awake for the incision! The last thing I remember was the surgeon pinching skin above the eyelid crease and calling out a nano-number. Can’t remember the number though. Propofol was my friend — just like the colonoscopy drug. Woke right up after. It’s a fast $urgery. They had said something about sometimes using a little Versed before. I don’t know if they did that or not. . . (I have always been suspicious of the root of that name for a drug. ‘Ver’ just like in ‘veracity’ or ‘verify’ or ‘verisimilitude’ or ‘veritably’ and the Spanish word ‘verdad’ = TRUTH! (Always wondered if Versed is truth serum or some such thing and I would tell them all kinds of stuff if they used that.) Boomer |

Yesterday, on the roads in the Villages I noticed quite a few candidates for eye surgery. Seems there were dozens of them driving with their eyes closed.
|
So happy for you! I’m doing some research right now for mine. I wish you had it here so you can recommend your doc. Anyone out there have any recommendations? Boomer did you go to a plastic surgeon? I was told by my optician to go to an ocular surgeon.

I had the eye lids surgery done - upper and lower back in 2005 IN COSTA RICA
Quote:
IT TOOK 25 YEARS OFF MY FACE. |
When I had this done years ago I was told to eat pineapple (fresh or canned) for two weeks before and after to minimize bruising. It worked great.

Hey, Boomer…. I, too, had both lids done… 30 YRS AGO when I turned 50!!! And guess what… 30 years later they STILL look like I just did it! Like you, they never looked like I’d had anything done except that all the extra skin was gone. Looks so natural. I had mine done in my hometown in west Los Angeles. Excellent doctor who had done a couple of my friends. As you probably know, almost everyone in southern California has had SOME kind of plastic surgery. It’s considered normal out there.
I honestly don’t remember how long it took to get through the healing stages; I just know the whole thing was worth it. Happy you’re happy with it! |

Eyelid surgery
Is there anyone here who can recommend a surgeon here in or around the villages for this surgery?
|
Thank you for bravely sharing! Could you share an approximate cost?
Congrats! |

I was awake when mine were done. Every time the doctor removed eyelid fat I made him show it to me. FYI, it looks just like yellow chicken fat. :D

Blepharoplasty
Hi Boomer. I just got the ok to have this surgery done. I am checking out plastic surgeons in The Villages. Can you or anyone else recommend a Dr? Thank so much.
|
Dr. Latif Hamed does this procedure in Ocala. He teaches laser, surgical and medical eye care to other doctors. I figured if he teaches he must know what he is doing. He did warn me not to expect a great difference as he goes more for the natural look. My eyes don't look closed in photos now. It has been quite a few years since I had it done. His phone number is 352-237-0090

Will I be able to play the piano if I have it done?:icon_wink:

But to others contemplating the same locale, ask yourself "How would the finest surgeon in Costa Rica rank in Boston or NY?" |

Gee, I dunno. I will find a piano and get back to you. ;) Boomer |
Eyelids

Me, too!

As I remember, I was able to use eye makeup as soon as the incisions healed. I had them done in NJ, before we moved here permanently. It was done in the doctor's office, took about a half an hour, and I was on my way home. Easy peasy. I'm still pleased with the way they look. Good for you! It took me a while to work up the courage. |
Do Your Research

Please consider a plastic surgeon! They do that procedure multiple times a week, and are very skilled. Experience is paramount. |
Fee

I paid $3200 for just the uppers about 5 years ago in NJ. Don't have a clue what the going rate is here. |
Versed IS truth serum! 🤣

Depending on what needs to be done, if you are Medicare age, some of the cost might be picked up. That depends on your field of vision. I knew, from the beginning, that mine would be only cosmetic so I had planned to have to pick up the whole cost. If you think you might be interested, you can probably make an appointment for a consultation where they should give you the test where you push a button when you see a light enter your field of vision. They are measuring whether your vision is blocked. After that, they should tell you the cost of your specific situation so you can decide what you want to do. A friend just had the whole nine yards — lids, above the lids, bags below removed, and a brow lift. Medicare picked up some of it — I think the lid part. (I did not need all that, just needed to get rid of some drooping skin above the crease, not blocking my vision though — yet. I had been thinking about it for a long time — and the time had come. It was for vanity, but it needed to be done for me.) Vanity, thy name is. . . Boomer |

I specifically chose an ocular surgeon, an ophthalmologist who specializes in all kinds of surgery of the eye area, some very serious — not just cosmetic. This one has an impressive education and a lot of experience. . .the consultation was not rushed — questions answered. Boomer |
