...trying to sign up for BJ's

but the plane wouldn't land

I was in line at store so I could be the first shopper. :)

I can't believe how long they are taking to build the store. Had it been The Villages doing it we'd have been shopping there for weeks already.

They do have lots and lots of stuff to bring into the store.

Correct, but at what price. Have never seen such poor building quality anywhere else.

thelegges 02-27-2022 06:08 PM

So on my way to the commissary, I stopped at a BJ’s, ( 3rd visit) shopping list in hand. Scanned every item, that BJ’s had, 8 not available. Comparing cost and availability with Costco, Sams. Can’t use commissary because price will beat all 3 stores. Costco had all but 1 item, and Sam’s 3 not available.

Costco prices were the lowest, Sams $11.17 higher, comparing what BJ’s have available, $14.84 higher than Sams. While I found the deli interesting, prices were much higher than regular grocery. Unless there is items I need that I can’t get anywhere else not worth $, and another card in my console.

I know there are big BJ’s fans, but what do you buy, that you couldn’t get for same price or less elsewhere

Poland Springs Water. Golf Cart accessibility. I like it. :1rotfl: Better than riding an hour for Costco. Never again. :blahblahblah:

Like I wrote somewhere here before.
Math 101

Buy that 1 year 25% off membership now and the store doesn't open
for 7 months, your buying only a 5 month membership.

Your welcome

Took TV four years to get a Publix built down by Fenny

Check the other posts. The end day of the 1st year is 12 months from the opening of the store. If you purchase your membership now it is good for more than 12 months and be used at other stores.

Looks like a bargain. Math 101.

I believe, sir, you are mistaken. My understanding is your membership doesn't start unti the store opens. That what my membership agreement says.

We have majority of our items arrive at our front door free ship from Costco, no cart needed. In a few years I expect 80% of products will no longer be bought in brick and mortar.

We have to be in Costco area every 5 weeks, and Gainesville (TJ’s) every 4 weeks. Drive an hour either way not a big deal for us. BJ’s would be an hour in our cart, so frozen stuff would have to be eaten half way home:a040: ice cream comes to mind.

And the Publix at Trailwinds was up in about 6 months.

But if you have to drive to Costco, are you saving any money considering cost of gas and time???

:ohdear::ohdear:

Costco gas pays for the trip

:ohdear::ohdear:

Gas at Costco is typically $0.40 cheaper…. More than covers the cost of the trip.

cathell62 02-28-2022 07:02 AM

How dumb can you be?

I would rather be built correctly the first time and not have to worry about going back in for repairs because it was built too fast giving it time to settle.

There is no Costco in Gainsville? If there is please reply

MidWestIA 02-28-2022 07:50 AM

cost

Went to publix 24 oz 8oclock coffee 15.40 walmart 36 oz 13.30

MidWestIA 02-28-2022 07:53 AM

thanks

thanks but costco cost more for the gas to get there - but now I know just stick with sams rather than bj but for us I'm thinking walmart might be good enough no fee and why do I have to get 47 when I want 3

Joe C. 02-28-2022 08:24 AM

Your membership card at BJ's is good for more than a year. It's good right now at any BJ' s and good for one year when this store opens up. One thing BJ's has a good deal on is paperbacks. If you like to read, then this is the cheapest price I've seen on paperbacks.

Regorp 02-28-2022 09:00 AM

Gasoline!

Salty Dog 02-28-2022 09:03 AM

I think at our age we should have the skills to be able to recognize where the best deals can be found. Some may be at Sam's, others may be at BJ's or Costco. I for one have no problem if BJ haters stay away. Less crowded for those of us who do choose to shop there...

:ohdear::ohdear:

Yes. We go to Costco about every 5 weeks and buy frozen strawberries, organic pasta, organic canned goods that we regularly use, toothpaste, mouthwash, laundry supplies, etc. and find that we save a good bit of money. Oh, and we fill up with gas as it is always the cheapest that we’ve found since moving to TV and it’s top tier. Not a bad drive either. :spoken:

Looper1273 02-28-2022 09:49 AM

BJ's Membership

Memberships will not activate until store opens.. Thats what I was told by one of the membership recruiters when we signed up at the trailer.
Makes sense ,Hope this helps

Pgcacace 02-28-2022 10:36 AM

If one is worried about ice cream, bring a cooler and drive by car. Golf carts don’t hold enough when you go to a warehouse store.

 Sorry, I have to ask..... was that high on your criteria for moving here? Did you say to yourself "I have never seen such poor building quality anywhere else...... I think I'll move there?" :ohdear:

Original post above, “We Have to be in Costco area every 5 weeks, and Gainesville every 4 weeks”.
Reading entire post helps, before you quote off response, with an OH DEAR.

already driving within 2 miles of Costco, so bonus.

I don’t get why many retired people in TV worry about time spent driving, it’s not like you are working 60 hours a week, and have very little time to drive to Costco. With 24 hours a day 4 hours to sleep, 8-10 hours of work, leaves me 10 plus hours to enjoy life outside of my house.:clap2:

Be Thankful The Villages Isn't Building BJ's

Yeah, and if they built BJ's as fast as some of the houses in TV, there would probably be one thing after another going wrong . . . a sinkhole, perhaps?

This is just the tip of the iceberg, cathell, but thank you for asking

justjim 02-28-2022 04:08 PM

Publix at Magnolia Plaza was originally suppose to be a different grocery. That was changed and was the major reason it took so long to get the Publix built in that location.

Ha, think again, we've been watching the new medical building in Lake Deaton Plaza...talk about a long lead time

things in FL seem to take 3X's as long as it did in the north

I don't know how true that is these days as it was a few years ago. I'm seeing a lot of commercial development taking much longer than in the past to be completed. I'm wondering if it's lack of equipment or lack of employees.

Houses seem to be going up but omni buildings and other retail establishments seem to get started and slow to a standstill for several weeks.

Eventually, Costco will be coming to Clermont. That will be a 45 minute drive. I'm looking forward to it.
