Adequate Boarding for your dog

Is there a boarding place in the villages that has decent accommodations? I am once again disappointed with the Villages and the lack of adequate dog care options. My dog is not used to being in a cage day and night with human interaction.

I'm looking for a boarding option where I can have my dog walked several times a day, an option to have one on one play with a human, and accommodation with room to walk around and have a bed in a small area with outside access to a protected grass area.

I'm not looking to put him in a situation where he learns to bark and beg for attention because he's left alone and ignored for hours while he's in a cage and is listening to other dogs bark for attention because they're stressed out too!

Get a pet sitter who will stay in your home. Your dog will be happier than being boarded.

Gulfcoast 03-01-2022 08:11 AM

Have you considered a dog sitter that will come to your house and take care of your dog while you're away? My dogs do way better when they are home. Boarding facilities are too stressful on them.

It's the TV responsibility to supply you with a pet boarder you deem adequate? Who knew?

Look on NextDoor. There are a host of pet sitters who take in pets or will come to your home and stay with your pet...

Bjeanj 03-01-2022 01:52 PM

We use Village Pet Spa. While not in the bubble, it is off Rolling Acres. They have playtime twice a day for the dogs, and may have a baby pool.

It's a bit of a drive but I gladly do it for my Bulleit. The people are fantastic, better than that actually. He loves to play with the other dogs and people there and more often than not they are free to roam and play with the other pooches.

We have always used them since living here in the villages for all of our boarding needs.

kidnerkim 03-02-2022 05:55 AM

I use a pet sitter that takes my dog into her home. There are several in the Villages. I would ask your neighbors or trusted friends who they use before asking strangers on this site.

So you are recommending the same thing as 'strangers on this site!':icon_wink:

I have been in the same bucket.

We did use Village Pet Spa, however one of our dogs came home injured and "they have no idea, it couldn't have happened there, are we sure it's an injury" That plus the addition of several other changes - they are no longer on our list to use.

The Vets don't do it any more, and the reviews on some others aren't all that encouraging.

Much luck, it's not at all easy.

Not in the Villages, but we’ve used this one for the last 30 years and love the owners and staff.

Pet Boarding

This company is owned by a Village Resident. She has a group of pet sitters who have the dog stay in their home. She interviews the pet owner and matches the dog's temperament to the sitter. We used this company when we went on a 15 day Alaska trip & were very pleased.

EXACTLY!! The Villages management doesn't run every single business "inside the bubble". As snowbirds, we found pet boarding and day spa businesses in the first 24 hours we rented here. There are many that come with referrals from local veterinarians....

Love Miss Kate’s Bed and Biscuit!

We use Miss Kate’s Bed and Biscuit in Oxford, fairly close but outside the bubble!
403 Forbidden

They are great! Lots of outdoor playtime, a larger area to eat and sleep and they even have video cameras so you can check on your dog. Tegan is excited when she gets there and they are just as excited to see her.

We had a similar experience at Village Pet Spa where she was injured, “but it couldn’t have happened there.”

Try out Kate’s!

Try Rover.com
There are several residents in The Villages or nearby area who take the dog into their home. They are vetted and our pet has attention and interaction in our absence. we have had very good results using them. Each sitter has a profile, reviews, and rates listed.

Village Pet Villas

Enthusiastically recommend Village Pet Villas 102 LaGrande Blvd Lady Lake -352-751-0008. villagepetvillas.com. Across the highway from Spanish Springs

Wonderful kind and caring staff with great accommodations. No cages, crates or runs. Individual rooms have toddler beds. Added plus is that it is affiliated with Village Veterinarian.

Best boarding facility that I ever used.

dtennent 03-02-2022 08:39 AM

We have had very good luck with Away From Home Pet Services. Joan (352-391-2323) uses Villagers to take your dog into their home. Only one dog is allowed into the home at a time. Our dog has always done well.

sallyg 03-02-2022 08:54 AM

We have used Bedtime Tails in Summerfield a few times. Very pleased with the facility and care.

Bryson 03-02-2022 09:48 AM

Thank you.

airstreamingypsy 03-02-2022 10:25 AM

Two things I would never do are, leave my dog at a kennel and leave him home alone and have someone come by a few times a day and walk him. When I leave my dog I have someone come stay at my house with him. He's happy and comfortable here. I want someone here with him all night. My advice is get a dog sitter to stay in your house, check references.

Bryson 03-02-2022 10:27 AM

There are a lot of doggie care individuals in the Villages who are loving toward your pet and are reasonably priced. Try asking for referrals on Next Door. I found my dogsitter on there and she is great.

Good luck with this.. try a home sitter to come to your house

Janet1946 03-02-2022 11:36 PM

You might want to check out trusted house sitters. I would think it would be perfect for The Villages. You do have to pay them a little over $100 a year but you post when you'll be gone and what kind of pets you have and what their needs are, etc. The house sitter is vetted, etc., takes care of your pets and can take day trips while you're gone. You can't have any illegal pets (like chickens or wild animals).

It sounds like you want a 24/7 concierge for your dog. I think that's going to be fairly hard to find, no matter where you are.

I have used Rover.com for my Pom in 3 cities I have lived in. I highly recommend it and found a wonderful sitter here in TV (in her beautiful home) and have used her services several times. (Annette in souiellere villas) (that might be misspelled ha!) and will use her again. My dog loves her. Try it, you might just like it and you will be able to find someone in most every city you visit.

Dog sitter

What kind of dog do you have?
I just moved to the Villages and feel the same way you do about my dog. I had nothing but problems with dog sitters when I lived in NY.

I am meeting a dog sitter tomorrow that will watch him in my home. She comes highly recommended so I am hoping this will work out.

Good luck
