If you are in the process of moving here, ask the furniture movers if it can be moved with your furniture, we did this with a car. Otherwise, I would go with a U-Haul and suitable ramp, I would not use the U-Haul trailer, unless you are very familiar with towing a trailer, also, these units are VERY heavy, and may not be suitable for a smaller car.

Contact a The UPS Store. Back in NJ we (not me, our store) shipped one by UPS freight. It was 7-8 years ago so I have no recollection of the cost. All traces of gas had to be removed if it's gas and I assume batteries need to be removed IF LITHIUM. They palletized it and wrapped it in shrink wrap. No, it won't go in the regular UPS truck that you see every day :) and maybe they don't even do it anymore. We shipped truck motors and all kinds of weird stuff. :) Probably best off calling their freight dept because the store people likely won't have a clue. Our store had a good manager. ;) It definitely can go common carrier of some sort.

Unless it village ready, I just sell it. Don’t you live in villages and have street rod golf cart? If so how did it get to Virginia?

CoachKandSportsguy 03-01-2022 10:31 PM

We put ours in a Haul trailer, and drove it down. On the hitch of an F250 diesel, but could also do it with a Subaru outback 3.5l. Might not get great mileage, but its just one trip.

Rent or borrow a pickup truck, drive it up there, put the cart in the back and drive it back down here.

I had a local mover bring it to VA 2 years ago. Not much use here. I called the mover and he is going to try to make arrangements.

Thank you all for the advice.

I have used Uship.com for a motorcycle and a golf cart. It was great, you post the item. You can just let it go automatic or select from those that respond. You can see their equipment, trailer, open or closed, truck, open or closed and more. You select one, you send your money to Uship and they hold it until you give him your code, then they get paid.

I pulled my Yamaha 4-seater last winter from Tennessee to Flint, Michigan, and back. I have three thoughts about doing this:

1. If you have a truck sufficient to pull a box trailer (4000 lbs plus 1000-1500 for the cart), and access to a box trailer, this is the superior way to go. Fully contained and protected cart entirely under your care, custody, and control;

2. If you can fit it in the back of a pickup truck (with loading ramps, obviously), or a simple flat utility trailer, this is the easiest way to go - try renting or borrowing a full sized pick up truck (I did it with a small Tacoma without issue). Don't mention to a rental agency your plans. Don't lie if they ask, but you don't have to volunteer information;

3. If you opt to haul it in the open air, you will want to remove the windshield and secure the roof. Those little 1-inch steel struts reaching 3 feet into the air to hold your roof are not particularly solid at 70+ mph for hours at a time.

Removing windshields can be very difficult. A non-marring trim tool (available at Snap-On or Harbor Freight) can be used to help pry off the rubber windshield holders. OR you can face the golf cart on the trailer or in the pickup bed forward but you will have increased wind resistance and gas use. That doesn't address your cart's roof issue, and that's if it fits. Some of the four seaters are too big for truck beds or smaller utility trailers so putting them on the trailer backwards so the rear seat can sit over the trailer coupler area is your only option. Link to non-marring trim tool:

FWIW - I bought the Snap-On one because my buddy is a dealer. It was $90 off the truck, but it was cheaper than replacing a $160 golf cart windshield that flew off the cart onto the side of the interstate.

Uship.com. Go on website. Post that you need to ship golf cart from and to. You will get bids. Before you accept a bid, read the bidder's reviews.

Uhaul trailer - we bought our cart in Alabama last month (only place with new Yamaha inventory) and rented the trailer.

hal195z 03-02-2022 11:17 AM

Look at the cost to ship (probably $500 - $1000) and if it not Villages ready you cannot use it here anyway.
Sell it and buy another here.

FuzzyBear 03-02-2022 11:20 AM

I would go 301. Definitely not 95.

Golf cart move

Rent a U Haul with ramp or move in moving truck with your furniture or attach a tow hitch to your vehicle and tow it.

What is it that makes a cart "Villages ready"?

Ok I’ll bit.

Look at golf courses carts (on golf courses only) and look at carts running around villages on MMP and streets. Mainly high speed motor, lights with blinkers, windshields, governed speed turned up.

Yes, I realize those things are common. But are they "required" to be allowed to be used in TV?

I've never seen a set of rules delineating the carts must have certain specs...

Luggage 03-03-2022 06:57 AM

I would ask at the golf course pro shops as well as some of the cart sellers. But here's another suggestion, I shipped some things via train years ago they were very heavy and it was the best way to go. I'm sure you can also get a quote just to compare.
