Golf cart goes up in flames!

I wonder what caused this?

tophcfa 03-03-2022 09:22 AM

Why didn’t someone get those golf clubs further away from the fire?

Saw one burn like this at Chula Vista a week or so ago. Gas cart. Plenty of fuel in that plastic tank.

Aware of two close calls due to the belt slipping and smoking during a long ride and climbing the Turnpike bridge.

Wondering if some carts may not be designed to manage the long climbs over these bridges?

This was a gas golf cart according to the person narrating the video. Also says in the description that is was a gas cart.

Gas cart you can pretty much bet it was leaking gas, owner should been smelling gas for awhile for it to go up into bond fire 🔥. Probably carburetor cart with lack of preventive maintenance (none). Outside chance the battery could do exploded, but gas tank usually on other side which make it highly unlikely to rupture gas tank. Electric short could cause this but it would smolder for awhile before it turn into inferno.

Smoking belt just going to smoke and slip and cart won’t move. Highly unlikely the belt would catch fire, but I suppose not impossible????, but some people are not sharpest knife in the drawer and just keep pushing the problem beyond no return???

It sounds so much better to infer it is the batteries some people have a one track mind

Helps to look at the link:

"This gas powered golf cart was totally destroyed by fire. Make sure you have good insurance to cover such an event."

Many seniors lose taste and smell - they can't smell the fumes. (they just know they have a headache after driving the cart) DOH!

Laker14 03-03-2022 03:04 PM

I think I can fix it.

As far as designed, they are, most of them, designed as GOLF CARTS. Some add seating for four. All are sped up, the design is for 12 miles per hour. Average weight say 180, that is now 720 lbs of added people. It is not just the climbs.
On the way down the weight shifts forward. Still carrying that 720 lbs and for most you only have brakes on the rear wheels.

Adding a fancy body? It is not now a sports car. It is a golf cart with a fancy body.

Guess they can’t see gas dripping or wet spot when cart moved? Most only know how to put the key in and turn it.

And that's the way it should be for what they cost.
Dollar per mile, golfcarts are junk, both gas or electric.

Their expensive to maintain and ride like lumber wagons, and steers like a truck.

But you need one to play golf. Not a golfer? Ever driven a truck like a dump truck with a stick shift?

If they wanted insurance to pay for them, they would have just left them on the cart to burn...

Weird that it ended up being an advertisement for Todd Casey Cart Repairs. I wonder if he approved that.?

So quick to jump to conclusions and make up a story. Conclusion jumpers are a sandwich short of a picnic.

OhioBuckeye 03-04-2022 09:39 AM

Don’t know but bet it was an electric cart!

Lottoguy 03-04-2022 09:40 AM

Yes, I thought the same thing. The heat really destroyed the bottom of the bags and the grips on the clubs.

John-US 03-04-2022 09:41 AM

I'm just glad another gasser is off the MMP. Good Riddance!

If you don't maintain anything it ends in fire. (sadly)

Reciprocating gonculator…it could have been fixed with a left handed crescent wrench and a package of dehydrated water. What a shame

Even bicycle has to periodic maintenance. But, that why there are bicycle shops for ones that don’t have clue.

Garywt 03-04-2022 04:48 PM

Looks like a controlled burn for the insurance agencies to advertise.

yep, just need one of each part used to make a golf cart, and then hire someone to put the pieces in place, and bingo! Fixed!

OhioBuckeye 03-05-2022 09:02 AM

This will be the same thing that’ll happen to electric car! Just watch your $100,000. car go up in flames.

And gas cars have resulted in deaths due to carbon monoxide when people fail to shut them off in the garage. Auto stop has made this far more likely.

Nothing is risk free.
