Beware of The Chop House
Beware of the Chop House. On Friday March 5th we had a birthday celebration at the Chop House. Our table was ready at the reserved time and we were greeted by our server. I ordered the catch of the day which was sword fish along with potato and broccoli. When our meals were delivered, mine was not. The server said that it was not prepared as I ordered and it would be out soon. It finally arrived (partially) when everyone else had eaten almost half or more of theirs. The broccolli was not on the plate and it would be out momentarily. It actually never came. The final insult was when the bill was presented. The charge for the sword fish was $38.00 for a relatively small portion. We know that prices are rising but to get poor service at a premium price is very disappointing.

Probably best to order a chop at the Chop House and swordfish at Blue Fin.

So, we are supposed to stay away from Chop House because you had a bad experience? Stuff happens from time to time and it can be annoying, however have you never made a mistake in your life?

We won't be going back. We patronize instead the Legacy Restaurant at Nancy Lopez. Top-of-the-line service, generous portions no matter when you go, and excellent fare: their chateaubriand was melt-in-your-mouth tender and far more flavorful than that served up by Chop House. |
When a restaurant offers a special best to ask the price as often it is rather high.
|
IMHO, the Chop House is one of the better eateries ...
that said, as an earlier post said, you don't order fish at a steak house, and you don't order steak at a fish house |
Always ask what the special will cost if they don't volunteer the information up front. I hope you spoke to the manager before complaining in social media
|
We have been once with no plans to return. Would rather go to Texas Roadhouse.
Anyway you should have received a reduced price especially since you never go your full meal. Not a good way to run a business. |
What did the manager say when you brought this to their attention? The time to deal with these issues is right then. Before you pay the bill.
|
Wow, sure a reason to beware of the Chop House - not. Might be good to check prices first ( fish is expensive ).
|
I was at the Chop House Friday and had a GREAT experience.
|
Having owned and operated restaurants for many years , I feel qualified to chime in, kitchens are geared to prepare menu items as printed ,when “special” requests are made it screws up the flow of production, just order as the menu describes it with a lot less disappointment. Special requests are usually handled properly.

I had the worst steak ever at the chop House so I will never order steak from there again. The chicken dish was excellent and Ahi Tuna appetizer is fabulous. I will stick to those two dishes when I go there. If I complain to the manager they would take it off the bill and I don't want them to do that. One time I pointed it out after I paid the bill and was walking out the door and the manager and I had to go back and forth because he wanted to take it off the bill. Restaurants have suffered so much in the past that I'd rather just stick to what I find good and that's it.

If you are on Facebook it’s best to check in to the establishment on Facebook then comment. The manager will see it and most likely respond.

Some people like to eat at overpriced restaurants, it makes them feel special.

I find it odd somebody would order a meal without asking the price. |

I agree! Everyone has an occasional bad day. I have always had great food and service at not only Chop house, but most every restaurant in TV.
Also there is a very big shortage of help for business everywhere. My friends and I attempted to have dinner last night at Gators in Brownwood. The place was less than half full. When I asked for a table, they said it would be 30-35 min. Because of shortage of kitchen help. She apologized and said it was tough for her too because she is a server and she relies on tips. Soooo…. BE PATIENT! I’m sure the restaurant want you to have a great experience every time but as we all know…💩 Happens!!! |
very very first world problem. . .
labor shortage with HUGE competition 45 mins to 1 hr south, with better tips. . as compared to the fixed income retirement crowd. The younger, more money hungry labor has moved on to better wages as the employment market opened back up. Its what they do. . population growth of retirees growing faster than quality labor supply for local vendors. . when will people learn than the hardest to manage in a free market is fast growth, and here is no different. Throw in some huge gas prices and disposable income drops quickly, some will be cash flow negative for the current job with driving involved and low wages. . what do you recommend for them to continue to serve you? 40 years of relative peace and prosperity has been upended, and life style is changing, time to adapt or at least tolerate the occasional hiccup. |
Your experience is the EXACT opposite of mine.
I have eaten at the Chop House on many occasions and frankly it is my GO-TO restaurant when I want the best meal in The Villages. I have never had a bad dinner and my service has always been excellent.
I also recommend Turners in Old Leesburg. |

No more Chop House for us…. The last two times was very disappointing so we won’t be going back.
To me, The Chop House is WAY overrated….. same category as the WAY overrated Rose Plantation !! |

All the OP is trying to do is hurt the restaurant and its employees. |

Took my wife there for our Anniversary last August. I was hoping for something rare in TV, a dining experience. Hoped, but….
My expectations were too high, and we won’t be back. |
I went to Chop House -- pre-Covid. The atmosphere and service were excellent, however the steak was not good and the price was $48. I lived in the NYC metro area and had better steaks at local restaurants for $12 to $20. I do not mind paying a higher price for a restaurant meal but I expect the quality of the meal to be excellent. I have not been back to Chop House.

It shouldn’t matter what you order. Fish is on the menu and so is the higher price. It should have been just as great as steak. Not everybody wants steak in a party of two or more thus the reason fish is there. This restaurant is just so-so. I had mediocre food there and a bad experience with service and seating. Manager was made aware but did nothing to encourage us to come back. Would never go back.

Chop House
We retired here as full time residents from downtown Chicago and miss dining at restaurants that offer high quality fresh food. We have eaten at Chop House and feel the food quality is mediocre and the prices are high for what you get. We go to Ocala, Orlando, and Winter Garden for dinner if we want fine dinning or better portions with fresh ingredients like Cheesecake Factory or AYCE sushi, fresh Octopus salad, served to the table (this is not a buffet) or Sarasota's Der Dutchman an Amish restaurant (all home made including the rolls, pie, chicken, ham, turkey and many salads) your choice of either buffet dining, ala carte dining or family style. Pasta Faire in Summerfield has great daily specials at very reasonable prices and we like Oakwood. We had seriously thought of moving but we love our activities, our home and the beauty of TV. The 2 things we don't like about TV is health care and dining. Maybe the rents are higher and restaurants need to charge more for less or maybe they are trying to make up for the loss of income they have during the summer months. If anyone can tell me what restaurants offer fresh, healthy not institutionally prepared food from Sam's Club or Gordon Food Service in TV I would love to know. Too Jays used to be good but since bought by new parent company their quality has gone down. I ordered a corned beef sandwich and there was hardly any meat on the sandwich. Another option is to go on an Oceania cruise every once and a while. The food on the European cruise was better than any meal I have ever eaten even in Chicago, San Francisco or New York.
