I am so glad I found this article, it upsets me to find out I have been eating the wrong desserts!

The Most Popular Dessert In Every State

Harrumph, I am from Ohio and I do not even know what a Texas sheet cake is.

(The article was fun to read though. :) But, Jello? Geez.)

And it should never be bright green because if it is, it might involve Jello!

4 states — Jello? Ohio needs to send them some Graeter’s ice cream. . .

I think I need to call for my smelling salts. How in the heck did Ohio show up with Texas sheet cake? (Now, I must go look up Texas sheet cake to find out what it is so I can figure out why it took the #1 spot in OH.)

Boomer 03-08-2022 03:49 PM

OMG! I looked it up! Chocolate on chocolate and add pecans. . .

I gotta git me summa that!

Boomer (on her way to the grocery store for ingredients)

Michael G. 03-08-2022 04:00 PM

Now image us taxpayers in each state pay a group sitting around a table deciding
each states dessert??

Where do I apply for that job?

Sheet cake party!

Carla B 03-08-2022 08:38 PM

Yeah, Jello, really? And Funnel Cake, as in the greasy stuff dispensed at Carnivals? However, some states show class, such as New Mexico and Bananas Foster, assuming it contains rum.

Amylee66 03-08-2022 09:18 PM

Wisconsin here - cherry pie is okay, I guess, just not a favorite of mine. I would prefer the Texas sheet cake! I’ve had it and it’s good!

Love the Key Lime pie also. Glad we moved from Virginia. Funnel Cake?? Only at fairs, etc.

I guess my being hooked on chocolate chip cookies means I should be in Maine, but key lime pie sounds good...

Minnesota's favorite dessert is...JELL-O??

As a former Minnesotan I can say that we do eat a lot of the stuff, but not so much as a dessert as a salad. Big a church socials and such. Take some orange Jell-O, mix it up and just before it begins to coagulate, take a couple of raw carrots, peel off slices with a veggie peeler and stir 'em into the Jell-0. Some people use lime Jell-O, for the color contrast I guess.

One of the more popular desserts up there, at least among the Norskies, is "Kremkake" (KRUMM-Kaaka). Cream cake. Often decorated with colorful berries and other fruit. Beats the heck out of most of the other desserts on this list.

Dreamofsheep 03-09-2022 07:20 AM

I think anyone from Maine would tell you the favorite dessert is either whoopie pies or blueberry pie. I’ll take the blueberry pie, myself!

FredJacobs 03-09-2022 07:25 AM

Key Lime Pie is Florida's official pie. Last week, the legislature voted to make Strawberry Short Cake Florida's official dessert.

"Where do I apply for that job?"

Try submitting an application to the insurance company 'Coventry,' that actually did the research and published the results?

So whats your point here?

Oh my. Please let me explain. . .

Sometimes it is so nice to have a little conversation here, in silly fun, just like it is in real life.

There should be no way this thread can turn ugly. (said Boomer naively)

Such conversations though have become fewer and further between. We need to embrace and appreciate the light moments of connection.

I think the “point” of this thread was to add a much needed gentle, light touch to the TOTV conversations.

As William Wordsworth said in his 1807 sonnet, “The world is too much with us.”

Wordsworth could never have imagined how eerily applicable his words would still be 215 years later.

I sincerely invite you to join in and maybe share with us what you think of what the list said about your home state’s favorite dessert.

Agreed.

Discussions, here and elsewhere, don't randomly "turn" ugly. But there are people in the world who aren't satisfied until every one else's world is as ugly and bitter as they see their own.

I would think cheesecake or cannolis (as a born and bred New Yorker) would be #1 for NY. But I do love black and whites. Nobody makes key lime pie better than Floridians.
Love the villages!

Uh, oh. You would have to mention NY cheesecake. . .

My Brooklyn friend sent us a cheesecake from Junior’s. And, Wow! This Ohio girl has never been the same. . .

I slivered and I slivered — just that “wafer thin piece” — that’s how it went — faster than I want to confess.

I like my cheesecake straight-up, no topping, and that’s what this one was — perfect. Junior’s has it all though — for those who are not a purist, like me. :)

And now, I get that wicked catalog from Junior’s. I am so tempted to get another of those orange and white striped boxes delivered. But. . .an entire Junior’s cheesecake could too easily become my drug of choice, replacing even my dear Graeter’s ice cream.

Thanks a lot.

Interesting that they used Google trend data to determine the favorite dessert of each state. Given that not many people know what Texas sheet cake is, there is a reasonable chance that it will become the 'favorite' dessert of The Villages!

richdell 03-09-2022 11:59 AM

I've had plenty of sheet cakes, but I never heard of something called "Texas" sheet cake. Apparently, there's a difference.

I heard that as well. What more proof is needed that the world has gone NUTS.

Oooo! Bananas Foster, haven't had that in years - sigh. My PCP would do bad things to me if I had that, with my liver - LOL!

As far as history. I had, have a hobby of reading old books. Problems, issues, so much of what we think are new problems have been around for centuries.

Thought about desserts. Truth, there are far more important things. A broader view-what is for diner. Truth, need to loose at least ten pounds. I find that not eating between meal and snacks does not seem to work.

10 pounds gone sounds good to me, too. I am reading up on intermittent fasting right now. It looks like there are different ways to do it and that it does not have to be as harsh as it sounds. . .

If I suddenly start writing “hangry” posts on TOTV, it will just mean that I am giving it a try.

Fried Oreos far surpass funnel cake. Drove to Sumter county fair just to get fried Oreos. Orgasmic

Nucky 03-09-2022 08:52 PM

N.J. says Icebox Cake? Don't know what it is, don't wanna know what it is, not going to look up what it is either. If anybody offers me an Icebox Cake, they are going in the Icebox! :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:
