2022 Yamaha Gas Cart Slow Acceleration
It's very hard to leave my neighborhood and get onto Pinnelas Pl. in the morning when traffic is heavy. I step on the gas, and nothing happens for a second or two. My other cart is a 2015 Yamaha gas cart and it accelerates quickly.
The service tech tells me that the lack of acceleration from a stop is the price we pay for the Quiet Tech design. Does this sound right to you, or do I need another service tech? |
We have a 2017 Quietech, and it accelerates very well, however, a couple of months ago, my wife noticed some problems with slow or NO start, turns out it was the battery. I replaced, and we had a new cart! In your case I would not expect the battery on an brand new cart to be bad, but it would not be a bad idea to have it checked, and possibly the voltage regulator.
I am going to guess that the drive belt or clutch is slipping, you might have one of the mobile golf cart service (Todd Casey, Willies) check the cart and see if they find a problem. |
Just had an acceleration issue with my 2018 Quiet Tech, and thanks to a few good posters here on TOTV, the problem was identified and easily fixed by a service call from Carts and Clubs. They removed the Spark Arrestor from the exhaust system. This is a safety measured installed to meet California emissions standards and not needed here. Everything runs great now.

Thank you, I will check this out!

The Spark Arrestor sounds like a good bet. Thank you!

Sounds like something not needed if required in California. |

You can drill out the steel wool like spark arresting material in the center of the pipe. I had it done so I am not sure if he used a "special" drill bit. |

I have a 2021 and have a similar issue. I have to cross busy (insanely busy this time of year) Morse Blvd daily, and I have to leave extra room to safely get across. I floor it, and there is a one second delay before it responds at all, and then the acceleration is not what you would expect. I got the same explanation when I asked about it. It's the price we pay for quiet.

I just changed to oil in our 2017 Yamaha quietech, and noticed the above mentioned spark arrestor, I just took a large phillips screw driver and punched a hole in the arrestor, and I really believe the cart runs better.

This is what I see when I remove the pan - where is the spark arrestor?

2022 Yamaha Gas Cart Slow Acceleration
It could be a number of things but I know trying to get an appointment will take weeks to get.
Maybe I can help. If you need an oil change, repairs or maintenance let me know. I have worked on carts for years. Just message me if interested. Thanks. |
Last year my spark arrestor got clogged up. A cart mechanic said I had to change the entire muffler assembly and that just changing the arrestor is not allowed, he could lose his license for doing that. He also said that it is not for wildfire prevention but part of the noise reduction features.
He said that if you remove the arrestor (noise suppressor) it reduces the back pressure and can cause damage to the motor over time. Now I hear removing it is ok. I wish I could find the unbiased facts. Does anyone have them? |
I removed the spark arrestor on my 2020 - I think it runs great. FYI - I initially pulled out the screen as I could not reach the arrestor's clamp with a wrench. The cart was certainly louder! I then drilled a small hole in the plastic to reach the arrestor's 6 mm clamp bolt to try re-screening the arrestor. Amazingly, the cart was noticeably quieter and now have just left the arrestor off.
So, since the arrestor is not a replaceable part - I'd recommend one only remove the arrestor (6 mm hex wrench) and not punch a hole in it (and for reasons I can't explain - the my cart is quieter with the arrestor removed rather punching a hole in the screen). |
The spark arrestor is just a piece of steel wool or stainless steel wool that is there to make the exhaust quieter. It is a restriction to the exhaust. You can just pull it out with needle nose pliers. Your cart will run better but you will notice a slight bit more noise from the exhaust. My wife is very picky and the extra noise doesn't bother her.
