Hobby lobby is coming to the villages

For a long time that large lot on 466 across from the high school was rumored to be a future home for a Costco. But, instead it was announced that a Hobby Lobby will be built on that site.

Already being discussed here: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ocated-330547/

Yawn as to Hobby Lobby! Definitely overrated. How on earth is this big business not treated as a company but as a mom and pop shop?

Guess we will not be seeing you there than.

gatorbill1 03-25-2022 04:38 PM

I won't shop there. I am sure they will do well without me.

Luggage 03-26-2022 05:22 AM

I really could care less as the owners of hobby lobby are nothing to talk about. And they gave up their model trains many years ago. We have Michaels, walmart, several sewing shops and many other small independent retailers that do very well now

I cannot put in words how freaking excited I am! Finally Finally a Hobby Lobby! One store I can get all my darning supplies!:bigbow:

GaryKoca 03-26-2022 06:14 AM

My least favorite store of all. Rows and rows of sewing threads, rows and rows of picture frames. Ugh! LOL

DaleDivine 03-26-2022 06:33 AM

My neighbor will be going there. He gets some of his RC car parts from HL...
:coolsmiley:

Rwirish 03-26-2022 06:36 AM

Good, Don’t need Costco!

Hifred 03-26-2022 06:47 AM

Costco (LOL)

When will the Costco Jokes ever end. I actually have been reading TOTV for a decade and every year someone says Costco has a plan to build in TV. Actually I chose TV because I actually believed Costco was going to build here (HA HA) ..... OMG you guys stop already. I chuckle every time I read about Costco. I think we should copy all the posts that mention Costco and send it to their board of directors and force them to build at least a little mini Costco here in TV. :icon_wink:

100% made in China junk..... well except for the antique artifacts they smuggled.

44Apple 03-26-2022 07:52 AM

Another "Christian" store, not a fan.

retiredguy123 03-26-2022 07:53 AM

Last year, I bought a nice shelf unit at the store in Ocala. I was a little miffed that the cashier refused to complete the sale without a zip code, so I made one up. I don't provide it since I read a Wall Street Journal article that zip codes can be linked to your credit card number, to collect information about you.

But, I think it will be difficult to support a store that large in The Villages.

OhioBuckeye 03-26-2022 08:24 AM

Well TV already have a couple of pop shops, Lowe’s & Home Depot.

Lottoguy 03-26-2022 08:33 AM

I always tell them my zip is 90210. Always works for me.

GOLFER54 03-26-2022 09:08 AM

Will they sell Pizza ?

How big is it going to be?

Wow...pretty negative!!! All you have to do is NOT go there and spend money. Of course, it is your choice.

The average store size is 55,000 SF.

I'm with you 100%.

I will never shop there because of their anti-stand on women's health care, i.e., women's reproductive rights, as an example.

Michael's gets my business when I have a need for that kind of store.

I am sure I will never have a reason to go to Hobby Lobby BUT thanks for reminding me that it is a Christian based company that is against abortion. I will make a point to patronize the store now

Luckily lots of people are ok with telling us what stores are ok to go into.

You might want to read up on the multitude of medical facilities that birth control is not covered, much less plan b. For 40 plus years we paid out of pocket healthcare monthly if no less than $849 per month, plus deductible

Last year working full time,I needed to take 13 weeks off for spouse medical issues I paid $3,290 monthly to keep insurance.
Medicare does not cover yearly checkup for Gyn visits. So Medicare should be off your user list.
So along with HL, you might want to take many hospitals off of your list for your business

And lots of unique storage furniture, Christmas deco and decorations, art supplies and stretched canvas, wall decorations for your new home. Lots of sales and clearances too. I framed many of my art pieces at Hobby Lobby also. Send it down to the south villages if you don’t want it on 466.

Major competition from Hobby Lobby is a really good thing for us consumers.

The stores in Ocala and Mt. Dora appear to be twice the size of Michael's in The Villages. HUGE, I tell ya!

EDIT:........Google search came up with this.......

55,000 square feet
Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. is an industry-leading retailer offering more than 70,000 arts, crafts, hobbies, home décor, Holiday, and seasonal products. They operate approximately 600 stores across the nation that average 55,000 square feet in size.

Competition is a good thing for consumers. BJ coming here will force Sams to up their game.

Yes, been in both stores, however, doesn’t mean the new one here will be that big. Just wondering……
