Need new gutters

Getting a new roof today and they have pretty much destroyed the gutters. Roofer said gutter repair not included. Oh well, my mistake for not asking upfront. Soooo now I need to find a good gutter guy. Recommendations please.

La lamy 03-25-2022 12:24 PM

Wow, sorry I can't help with a recommendation, but thanks for the heads up regarding that scenario!

I would not let them off the hook so quickly

villagetinker 03-25-2022 12:59 PM

I agree, they caused the damage , they should cover the cost. Years ago we used Hills and were pleased with the results.

retiredguy123 03-25-2022 01:15 PM

The roofer should repair or replace the gutters. I hope you didn't pay him.

If he won't repair the damage, I would file a complaint with the Florida licensing board. Most roofers have a Florida roofing license, and they don't want you to complain. Here is the website to look up his license and file a complaint.

Licensing Portal - License Search

We used Hills on 3 houses. Office staff very polite, and the crew cleaned up everything, payment after we were satisfied.

Who was the roofer, please? Did you go cheapest quote? If so….

dewilson58 03-25-2022 03:45 PM

Hills

Topspinmo 03-25-2022 05:52 PM

The kind of roofers I don’t want. IMO they was in too big of hurry to do job right? I wonder what other short cuts they done??????

GaryKoca 03-26-2022 06:13 AM

For new gutters, contact Stipes. They are in the area, and are the best. They do most of the gutters around here.

Got any recent pictures of the house(gutters) before the roofing started? How old are the gutters ? How much of them did they destroy? If the roofing contractor was one of your insurance company’s approved contractors they should assist you in this effort. I would do everything I could to make the roofer pay for the gutter “repair” but the good news is gutters are pretty cheap still.

NoMo50 03-26-2022 06:31 AM

No reputable roofer should have done any damage to your gutters. If they did, that is on them, and I would not let them off the hook. Take lots of pictures. Bring the issue up with the owner of the roofing company, and record your conversation with him/her. Figure on spending around a thousand bucks for whole house gutters. If the roofer won't pay, or at least deduct the cost from your bill, file an action in small claims court.

For new gutters, make one call...Stipes Gutters. Good luck.

DeborahK 03-26-2022 06:56 AM

We're in new Village of Cason Hammock and had Larry's Gutters do ours last week. Very professional and on time, happy with the price. He's doing many homes here.

MrFlorida 03-26-2022 07:06 AM

They should not have destroyed the gutters, don't let them off the hook.

Get a quote and deduct that from final payment.

Stipes gutters did a very good job on 2 of our houses.

Speedie 03-26-2022 08:20 AM

What roofing company?

ML Smith 03-26-2022 08:40 AM

Another vote for Hills

GOLFER54 03-26-2022 09:04 AM

When my roof as well as my neighbors was done, the company took the gutters off first and put them to the side to be put on at the end of the job. Your roofer saying gutters aren’t included is reason enough to call his company or whoever and file a complaint and get restitution.

Stipes gutters. Great guys and great price.

taruffi57 03-26-2022 02:40 PM

The roofing company is absolutely liable for any damages to your home. They MUST carry insurance to keep their State roofing license valid. Don't pay until they fix/replace.

When people let contractors get away with damaging their property that will encourage the contractor to do the same thing the next time they do damage.

Accidental1 03-26-2022 05:02 PM

My vote is for Hills

They did my house in December. Great quality, reasonable price, and great workers

Watkins Seamless Gutters

McGyver9 03-27-2022 06:29 AM

If they broke a window, or knocked a light off of the side of the house, would you let them off?
That is unacceptable!
Please tell us who this is, so they can be avoided!
Hope you didn't pay them yet/stop the check!

Bay Kid 03-27-2022 07:17 AM

I will update about this contractor after I have talked with him. By the way, my ring camera showed a worker beating the gutter until it fell off the house.

kkingston57 03-27-2022 11:20 AM

Can not give you a recommendation regarding who to use, but do want to point out to you that you or the gutter person should evaluate if all of the gutters need to be replaced.

We live in Hacienda and do get a lot of leaves, acorns, etc in our gutters. About 1/2 of the gutters are not necessary and probably cause too much water to accumulate around certain areas of the house. Have looked at other houses in our neighborhood and they, also, do not need so much guttering.

Leaf filters do not work.

Who?? The roofers or a gutter company?? You need to add the quote from whom you're responding.

I just had Hiils Seamless Gutters do my gutters on my new house just a few weeks ago and I would recommend them as they did a great job at a very fair price!

I do have a ring video of the worker bashing the gutter until it fell off. Not sure how to get it on the site, or if I should.
I will know more in the next day or two.

I don't think you can attach a video file to a post. It would need to be a link to a website. But, I wouldn't do it, especially if the worker is identifiable.

patfla06 03-30-2022 10:23 AM

We just had Stipes (March 2022) put in 6” gutters on the whole house.
They did a great job!!
Would highly recommend Stipes.

In that case show it to the roofing company with your demand to fix or replace it. If no satisfaction small claims court.

If they had to replace wood the gutters come off. Gutters are flimsy and most times cannot be re installed.

jtongue 04-02-2022 11:20 AM

2 other ideas/comments:

1. Contractors will "back nail" gutters. Probably why the guy was beating at it to remove it. Make sure all your drip edges are attached correctly and flush to the roof. Ours were a total mess from our roofing contractor, but they were hidden by new gutters.

2. There should have been a building permit for the roof. When I had a problem, I pressed on the County (Sumter) to go after the roofing contractor.

I'd suggest Batterbee to take a look your roof. They showed me many issues that I was able to show the building inspector. He made the roofer fix them all before he'd pass it and before I would pay the roofer.

It was the video showing the worker bashing on the gutters that make me think the contractor was responsible to repair/replace the gutters.
