Village Air Filters
Looking to hear from people that use the reusable HVAC filters. How well do they really work and if you have them, have you ever had to replace them?
The informercial I saw said you just hose it out but assume you need to let it dry before you put it back in.... Please comment on your experience with them. Thanks in advance! |
We have one. No issues. Hose it out per the instructions, shake out the excess water and reinstall. They will even send you an email reminding you to clean your filter.
|
I would rather use disposable filters and just throw them away.
|
I just hose mine out, shake it a little, then put it back in. Either it will drip dry or the next time the air handler comes on it will blow dry.
Really have no way to say how well it works. I don't notice any excessive dust or micro-particles but I didn't notice any before I bought this filter either. The filter never looks dirty when I clean it but that was my experience with paper filters also. I do know I've reused it enough that I'm beginning to save money. |

Expensive filters or reusable filters are not necessary. As long as you take the 30 seconds it takes to replace the filter, and do it frequently (we replace ours about every month a half), inexpensive basic filters work just fine. I can buy a package of three filters for $10 at Lowels. For that kind of chump change why wast your time cleaning and drying a reusable filter?

$160 per year is not chump change to me. My reusable filter is already saving me money. |
We just got ours a few days ago so cannot comment yet on how well it works.
However several friends have it and convinced us to get one. |

At least the throw away filters you know there always clean when replacing them.

With a Merv 11, you could be restricting your air flow and putting a strain on your blower motor and don't know it. Merv 8 ideal, even if you replace your filter more offend. |

I've had reusable and it sure makes sense to create less garbage if you can. They do work, not a huge deal to clean out, but I personally preferred drying it fully before putting it back on.

I plan to purchase one. Our return air is in the ceiling (versus floor level in our previous homes), so the filter shouldn't be too tasked

Air Filters
I’ve had them for years. When they service my HVAC system, they just wash them, let them dry while continuing their service, and re-insert them. They pay for themselves.

Home HVAC systems barely “filter” the air regardless of the filter you use. Relatively speaking, particles of dust, dander, mold, virus (yes even virus), pollen, shed skin cells and even hair from people and pets passing through any filter are Mack trucks. Not even units like Dyson and others capture most of these things. The only home available method to most closely eliminate these pollutants is a patented technology used in filter systems manufactured by a company in New York, Healthway ( not Healthways). They make everything from portable machines the size of Dyson up to the largest in-line systems for clean rooms and hospitals. And no, I do not own the company, you cannot buy stock since it is a private business and I am not a sales agent. These units just work better than any method to filter air in a home where air pollution is a problem or health risk. I suggest you research for yourself . . . . . Global Home Page | HealthWay Family of Brands(R) and Google search “Healthway air filters” for information and dealers. |

Not so...if ordered in bulk (3-4 pack), they tend to run about #10 or less per filter (top line MERV). IWe change ours every 6 months and we have had no problems.
