Oil Change & Tune-up

Can anyone recommend a place to get an oil change & tune-up? Would prefer Wildwood or Leesburg but great work would trump traveling outside the these areas.

Thanks

Stu from NYC 04-02-2022 06:02 PM

Have to say I cannot remember the last time I had a tuneup on any of our vehicles. Plenty of oil changes but tuneups seem to be a thing of the past.

Spark plus last a lot longer these days and carburetors are a thing of the past/

I watch for a sale at Walmart on the oil/filter I want.
Then when my oil needs changing, I'll take it to Walmart's auto dept. and have them change the oil.

Except for tires or battery, I'll go to a dealership for advice.
Follow your manual for extensive high mileage maintenance.

bobeaston 04-03-2022 04:22 AM

Wildwood Tire! Usually quick in and out. Easy to get to near the intersection of 44 and 301. Great service.

Luggage 04-03-2022 04:50 AM

Spark plugs usually last 100,000 MI with newer cars in the last 10 or 15 years, I wouldn't let them touch my motor unless your car has more miles than that or you have a real rough sound or leaking water pump. Don't forget your air filter which you should probably be able to do yourself and buy the part in any of the auto stores around here

Luggage 04-03-2022 04:51 AM

And don't be shocked if a tune-up is 300 to $500 because the dealers are getting a hundred and a quarter per hour minimum for service for labor

davem4616 04-03-2022 05:24 AM

I changed a lot of oil and oil filters as a kid when I worked part time in a garage...(back then we usually did a lube job too)

Now I take the vehicle back to the dealership for that

Nothing against the "Jiffy Lube" type businesses, or the small shops that are out there, but I like that the dealership will do a full inspection...I'd rather get a call that 'such and such' needs to be done, vs. having a problem on the road.

It gives me a little more piece of mind that I might avoid a problem when I'm traveling out of state

I’ve had good luck with Automaster in Leesburg

So how long is too long on a tune up? I have a 2007 Dodge Ram p/u 99,500 miles. Never had a tuneup, bought in 2009 @ 16,000 miles. I use fuel injector cleaner 2x year. Engine lately is surging when in park, or backing into my garage. Would a diagnosis machine pin point if this is injectors clogging up or needs new plugs?

JMintzer 04-03-2022 07:18 AM

As others have said, modern cars do not require a "tune-up"...

I definitely recommend Wildwood Tire on 44 near 301. They are very reasonable and most importantly honest.

The BEST. Hilton Automotive. Family owned and operated. Hey 42/441. Just off corner. 352-347-3565. Totally honest and thorough.

I always add tire rotation to the oil and filter change. Car Dealers have coupons too and got my last service done at my dealer for $55.00 which included various “checks”, oil & filter, tire rotation and topping off all fluids. I have used All German Motorworks in Leesburg for wife’s car and they do a good job too. Relative new vehicles have computer maintenance and it’s usually 7,500 miles and more before you need service depending on your driving.

MrFlorida 04-03-2022 08:21 AM

Wildwood Tire or Sumter Tire , either will do.

villagetinker 04-03-2022 08:46 AM

OP, if you were asking about a tune up due to an observed problem, go to any of the local auto parts stores and they can plug in an OBD code reader, this will give you an idea of what may be the problem. generally, these will light the "engine trouble" light, but as I recall not all codes trigger this light.

They are honest, keep the appointment time as promised and very reasonable. We trust them completely!

willis100 04-03-2022 09:17 AM

Take 5 has a couple of nearby locations on 441 for a quick oil change.

RCshort 04-03-2022 09:42 AM

I have also heard good things about Wildwood Tire. My friend who is a part time resident of Summerfield took her car there for some expensive repairs and the price was much, much lower than the garage she visited first. Another friend who was a snowbird for years swears by Tire Kingdom.

metoo21 04-03-2022 10:29 AM

Well, it has been over 100,00 miles since the plugs were changed. Now I have a misfire on cylinder #3. #3 is in the middle of the left side of the engine and is very close to the firewall. I've read that the engine has to be unbolted and tilted in order to get to it. I'm betting that wasn't done and they left the old plug that would now have over 150K on it. The first shop that I had change the plugs years ago, used regular $2 each plugs. Should have used the platinum ones. The second shop used platinum ones and may not have replaced #3. Seems really coincidental that it's the one with a misfire. Not replacing #3 is simply a guess on my part. I need some place that will do it all correctly.

Quality Tires and Brakes

I couldn't believe how hard it was to find a place that could actually change the oil correctly. I won't go into too much detail on that.
Two years ago my Check Engine light went on so I took it to a dealer's service dept. To make a long story short, they charged me $600. Check engine light came back on twice after bringing it back multiple times. So I gave up taking it back and just lived with it. The only condition that it gave was it turned off the anti-lock brakes and the cruise control. They assured me there was nothing really wrong with the engine.
Time to change the oil came around so I thought I'd give Quality Tires & Brakes a try. I told Vaughn there to give me the standard 6k mile servicing and told him about the check engine light. I said that he could try to fix it if he wants, but warned him that I'd probably be bringing it back after the light went back on. Well, I came back the next day and he did the oil change, (brakes were ok) and he changed the windshield wipers, all for $80 and by the way , he fixed the Check Engine light, no extra charge. It hasn't come back on since.

He doesn't take appointments. Just show up. He opens at 8am. First come first serve..

They should be called Take 65 because that’s how much they charge for an oil change on a CRV. Wild wood tire is $39

I agree. Our 2003 Acura has never had a tune-up and it still runs great.

I also agree with the many people who recommend Wildwood Tire. We have been going there for service for six years and we trust them, even for fairly expensive repairs like getting a new air conditioner.

Michael G. 04-04-2022 03:14 PM

Something I always wondered about using those 5 minute oil change businesses.

The first thing they do it check the air in your tires after your tires are heated up from driving there,
then let air out because the PSI reads high.

The best time to check air in tires is when their cold.
