Will Village trash take mattress?

Does the Villages trash service take box spring and mattress on the curb?

Mrprez 04-03-2022 01:38 PM

Technically you are supposed to call for a special pickup.

Papa_lecki 04-03-2022 02:53 PM

Call for a bulk pickup. It’s like $10 and they take up to 3 items. It is a scheduled service.

call for a special bulk pick up, then put it out....your neighbors will appreciate it

Follow this link to then read under Bulk Item Information -> NSCUDD

When we had ours picked up a it had to be covered in a full pastic cover with zipper closure for "health" reasons. May have changed since but at that time pickups were also free which was about 4 yrs ago.

They certainly will, just cut them up into small pieces and put them in trash bags. They will take anything that is in a trash bag.

Watching you cut up a box spring and mattress into small pieces would make a great video for UTube. :a040::clap2:

Call for bulk pick up, it cost $10.00

About a year ago I set out a queen size mattress with my trash on the normal collection day. They took it. That is in the Southern Oaks area. Maybe our service is different.

It amazing what you can do with a razor knife, sledge hammer, and a swazall. Last year I busted up an old dishwasher and got it into two trash bags.

Just schedule a special pick up. They will do it.

My wife’s elderly aunt actually did this (God rest her soul). She was off her rocker for sure but she actually bagged a whole full mattress and was trying to take down the box springs when my wife intercepted her in the act

That will work in a pinch, if you don't have a mattress chipper.

I would call the company that does your trash pick up. There is more than one company that picks up trash in the villages. Perhaps, too late but usually the people you buy a mattress and box spring from pick up and dispose of the old one.

Here is the official information. I think it applies to most of The Villages, but I'm not sure about the historic area. I once scheduled a mattress pickup, and put it out several days before the scheduled date and they picked it up early with no charge.

Bulk Item Information

Items such as office/desk or kitchen chairs, small lamps (bulbs removed) and ceiling fans (blades removed) can be placed with your household waste for disposal. Large items such as appliances, couches, flat screen TVs, microwaves and grills must be scheduled for pickup by calling Sumter Sanitation at 352-748-0109. A charge of $10.00 will be added to your monthly utility bill for this service in the NSCUDD service area. Bulk pickups must be canceled at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled collection date or the charge will apply.
