Recent college renting then buying in TV?
As a recent graduate from fall 2021, at 22 years old I have an opportunity to work remotely for a company in Ocala. I have always looked at the villages as a place I want to live someday, and with this new job opportunity I was thinking I could rent here for a few years then buy something shortly down the road. I was offered a good paying job and can afford TV even with the surging housing costs.
I am a clean, organized, well-mannered young man who is tired of the constant late night partying college lifestyle and wants a community where everyone turns in for the evening early. I love golf, cooking and relaxing. What are everyone's thoughts on such a young neighbor? |

This seems just like a post I read from 2021, but I'll bite.
I bought a house in The Villages when I was just below 55 -- my wife is even younger. To you, 50-54 is probably old. To many Villagers, we are youngsters. We've been here less than a year and both of us work and will continue to for a number of years. We live in The Villages, in the same neighborhood as the people around us, but we do not live in their world. There is an important distinction to this comment -- I'll explain; My wife works from home, but is bound to her desk from 8 - 5 M-Friday. I work in Leesburg and commute from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Most everything is geared to activities during those hours. The pools close at dusk/dark. So, in parts of the year, we can only go on weekends. Many of the businesses close by 5pm, which was a surprise to us. We have to race after work or leave early to make certain purchases or appointments. Our neighbors have groups of friends that they spend time with during the day and evening. We don't mind being to ourselves, prefer it actually, but it wasn't really a choice. Life continues on, joyously, when we are working, and we don't participate in those hours of activity due to our careers. All that is not a negative, it is just pointing out that if you are not retired, there is a disassociated feeling living in The Villages. I suspect that the younger you are, the more the feeling is compounded. If you get married, the other person will have to adjust (maybe they won't). If you want to have children or adopt, you can't. There is a nice neighborhood on 466-A in the Beaumont (I think)development that is single family, with nice homes and a nice community center with a pool. There, you can grow up and out as you please. You will still be near The Villages, near good shopping, near nice and maintained environs. Maybe you are that singular person, who in his/her 20's, is a perfect fit for The Villages. If so, and only you know; Welcome home. Quote:

Although I think this post is a setup , I’ll ask why a 22 year old would want to live here among older people ,when there are so many other options , you could live in Ocala , which at least has a fun downtown with many young people at night or Orlando filled with young professionals and lots to do, Tampa another great city with young people , with the ability to work at home you have a great opportunity to enjoy many places in Florida. I’ve lived all over this state and loved every ,place I’ve lived , I love the villages but even at 83 I need a dose of reality by going a couple of nights a month to Orlando and downtown Ocala and some months away from here, but if you do go through I hope you move next to me so I can go into my old and feeble side and get you to do lots of things for me ,because that’s what you’ll end up doing

“ I am a 24 year old man, single, no kids, work from home and am looking to buy my first house. I would love to live in the Villages and know about the 80/20 rule when it comes to 55+ communities. I am quiet, and old soul, respectful of others and always maintain a clean living space/ yard. What would be the honest reaction to having a young person live next door? The OP may not be a troll. The OP may be, simply, a product of his generation. Ya know, the whole "If you don't get the answer you want, wait a while and ask again," or "If Mom says no, ask Dad" thing that seems to be more and more prevalent with the younger, latch-key generation that is more and more a product of broken homes.
May be. |

Maybe I really am 22 and wanted to see what people would think of a 24 year old before I revealed more information about myself. |

I'd welcome more age diversity. I like different perspectives and learning from those around me.

everyone not over 55 in villages. Only slightly restricts age 18 and below. He said he will be renter which if over 18 and can pay rent won’t be problem. I think this may be stir the pot post. More it stirred the more responses. |

Same reply I made to your January 2022 Topic:
Seriously? Sounds like another one of "those" threads. Should generate lot's of replies. That one generated 10 pages with only 1 reply from you. Must be advertising rate time again. :D Not sure how your age would fit in with a young person's lifestyle here. I guess you could join the Villages Single's Club. Lots of 70-80 yr old ladies (or men) looking for young guys (or gals). The 24yr old bar scene is very hot here and the nightly music on the squares fits right in with your age group. As long as you clean up after your dog and don't drive your golf cart over 20MPH you should fit right in. Seriously though (LOL) I'm sure a 24yr old can find a more age correct community in central Florida or anywhere in Florida but if the golden oldies and golden age is your thing then welcome. EDIT: Sorry, no Costco or Trader Joe's within 50 or so miles. |

Maybe yes
The adult pools are 30+ and Ocala is a long commute sometimes depending on the traffic. If you live in the northern villages, it's better but the villages are moving south and that's where the new neighborhoods are that you might want to buy. If you have family in TV to assist that is a great reason. A friend that works in TV just moved from Ocala to TV because the commute was difficult on 75. It's always backed up north of wildwood.
|
depends on where in the villages you want to rent/live. Some areas further south is quite a ride to Ocala. Areas further North not so much. Historic side or areas near 42 just a quick ride to Ocala. And, don't forget, if you will be traveling on 75, lots of accidents and traffic

Progressive's becoming Your Parents
As the Progressive commercial portrays people becoming their parent. Willing or not when you surround yourself with a group of people, you evolve and become one of them. You're in your 20s the average age in TV is between 60 and 70. Playing it safe might sound ideal but going out in the world making your own mistakes is much more rewarding. Life might seem it going to last forever, but one day the 20-year-old opens his eyes and they're 70. One of Florida's nick names is "God's Waiting Room" and its places like the TV why they earned this name. There are many places in Fl. which might be a much better fit for you. But only you can decide what is best.

Troll Alert, can't fool us old dogs....

Stay in Ocala, the lifestyle here will bore you at your age. Besides the cost of renting or buying a home here will probably be out of your price range. Good Luck !

I am a prince from Nigeria and my uncle the king just gave me a check for a million dollars so I can fulfill my dream to live with the old people….

"Maybe I ..." That's what people say when they are hiding something.

I do believe there is that 80/20 gov't rule that he would actually be allowed. So, ok what if he moved in next door...a nice kid, doesn't play loud music, certainly can help you carry that heavy item into the house. Could be good competition on the golf course, or dance floor, or trivia night. And hey ladies, might have a cute caboose to look at. I'm mostly teasing here, but I think we'd all rest assured if he was an emt. Seriously though, I do wonder if this is a thing...in Feb we got 2 different rental inquiries one from 3 college boys wanting to rent for 6 mths and the other 4 college exchange ladies for the month....weird (We said no...we only rent to old farts) ; ) |
It's a game
