Barnstorm Theater in Brownwood.

I sure miss going to this movie theater. Anyone have any reliable information on when it will re-open?

Stu from NYC 04-30-2022 11:39 AM

Apparently never.

I heard from a reliable source “The Villages Grown Supermarket and Bodega”.

Taltarzac725 04-30-2022 12:36 PM

It seems odd that they would not be doing everything they can to get another movie theater open especially with Summer blockbusters coming and the very large population of the Villages of retirees and their visiting relatives and friends. It would be profitable IMHO to open them.

You are right Taltarzac from the posts I’ve read on TOTV which seems like a minority of replies against Hollywood. I’ve read the same about NFL.
Most I talk to feel the opposite but steam Hollywood Movies and watch the NFL. It’s not my show I’ll let the Morse family decide.
Personally we haven’t been to a Villages Theater in 2 years, completely satisfied with streaming. Hold button, rewind, bathroom within 20 feet, soda, beer, wine in the fridge.

Maybe, but I hate movie theaters because of the noise that other people make. Why don't they allow people to bring their own headphones so they can block out the noise.

Taltarzac725 04-30-2022 01:29 PM

For movies like Thor, Elvis, Jurassic Park, Top Gun, Avatar, etc., you really need a big screen with Surround Sound or an upgrade of that to really experience the movie. I do have to get up when nearing the two hour mark though as my prostate is not what it used to be. Summer Movie Calendar 2022 << Rotten Tomatoes – Movie and TV News

There are many mask less customers in grocery stores of late. I donated blood Thursday and we did not have to wear a mask until we neared the bus where we would be donating. This was at the Polo Fields.

And we went to the movie theater to see The Lost City around late March 2022 and I only saw a few people with masks and the theater had only a few empty seats. Think 278 or so of the seats were all taken. Auditorium 1 of the Old Mill Playhouse seats 300.

Just my thoughts. Thinking that if they were going to reopen would have done so by now. My guess is they are trying to find a new use for the property.

vintageogauge 04-30-2022 01:52 PM

I think the last time I went to a movie theatre was a Saturday matinee featuring The Bowery Boys.

Now. That was a long time ago.

They really cannot sell the Villages on things to do if they leave only one movie theater open with a population of the Villagers getting higher every day.

Apparently less and less of the population going to movies these days. Been to the theater in the villages 3x in just over two years and once was a freebee so does not really count.

Have people been denied a ticket due to sell out?

Probably will be converted into age restricted apartments dependant upon the results of the SS experiment.

Write this down, The developer first priority will be to do what is in the best interest of the developer. Hopefully we the residents of the villages comes second.

Yes, there has been a lot of that over the last 30 years.

Would take a lot of stars lining up in a very special way to get us into a movie theatre soon. I was a member of MoviePass years ago and saw literally 150 movies in a year back them. Some several times over. The cost was like $10 month, unlimited movies until they changed plans for new members. People say that I caused them to go out of business….

No you weren’t they were relying on people purchasing and not going. When their experiment was failingI couldn’t believe a hedge fund jumped in to infuse cash trying to keep it going.

Dr. Fauci has made the claim that the pandemic is over. Dr. Fauci stated Covid is now endemic (just like the flu is endemic).

Brownwood Theater

Very sadly, I believe the Brownwood Theater will go the way as the Spanish Springs theater

Probably when they reopen the theater in Spanish Springs. Oh wait, aren’t they making that into apartments?

Worldseries27 05-01-2022 04:29 AM

Scene 1,take 1, action, roll!!

Couldn't agree more.
Having a modern movie theatre to call our own, within our villages, is what lends a sense of grandeur to our lifestyle choice here .
To not have it anymore is evidence of decline.

The focus is on expansion and development south of 44 and south of the turnpike not renovation.

GOLFER54 05-01-2022 05:54 AM

I rent movies from Redbox kiosks weekly, they even have deals where they take a $1.25 off and I often end up paying as low as 79cents. You can find kiosks at Publix, Walmart, Walgreens, Circle-K in Lady Lake as well as many other places. You can even order the movie you like online, go to kiosk, put in your credit card and movie will come out. You have to return it by 9Pm the following day. Enjoy !
