Insurance for Golf Carts - help
 

I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to insure our golf cart. We just bought a home which included a golf cart so I know nothing about them but I do know I would want insurance. My insruance agent said don't add the golf cart to your homeowners policy because if you have a claim you could loose your homeowners and it is hard to get in Florida. My auto insurance will write it and my insurance agent quoted a rate. Basically for a separate policy I was quoted $185 a year for a gas cart worth $6500. My auto policy quoted $165. But I have asked at the Golf shop and several golf car owner how much they pay and they all say around $80 a year. HELP. How much do you pay for what value of a cart and how much coverage do you have. Any feedback on this would really help. Confused. Thanks

We went down to the insurance office in Colony Plaza and they were very helpful for insuring the golf cart. I can't remember how much it cost but think it was pretty minimal. They will be able to help you there with questions etc. You definately will want the thing insured! We're permenant residents here now but did this before we decided to make it our home here so don't think it was a huge deal to do this.

I had mine insured thru AAA using progressive. Cost is about 105 - 110 per year.

I purchased mine with Allstate. $60.00 year.

We insured our card using the insurance company in Colony. Cost is $59.00/year. It is a golf cart and not a street legal/LSV vehicle. The policy is written just for golf carts.

Insurance for LSVs is much higher but I don't know how much. Are you insuring a golf cart or a LSV?

Because we use our golf cart more than we use our car, we carry full insurance on it, including personal injury. Heaven forbid someone walk out in front of me at Walmart, I back into a parked car, or someone doesn't stop coming out of a tunnel. Our policy, obtained at Villages Insurance through Foremost Insurance Co., is less than $90 a year. Our cart is NOT street legal. It's an electric 2004 club car, if that matters.

I also have my cart insured through Foremost Insurance Co. and I just renewed it in Sept. at a cost of $81.81.

At AAA we were advised to have separate policy with different company for golf cart and not include it as added vehicle on auto policy. We wound up with a Progressive policy for about $100/year.

We also have our golf cart insurance as a separate policy through Progressive. But our rate is a little higher than others quoted here because we decided to add uninsured motorist coverage to the policy. That can add about $45 per year.

I have Bodily Injury to others 100,000/300,000, Property Damage to others 100,000, Guest Passenger Liability 100,000/300,000, Medical Payments 5,000 Comprehensive and Collision $100.00 ded and accessory coverage for $60.60 year through Allstate.

I have an LSV (Tomberlin) and have medical coverage, bodily injury to others, full property damage, full comprehensive, fire, and collision with a $50.00 deductable all for $80 every six months with USAA. Remember you get the protection you pay for!

Not sure you have the required coverage for LSV. Do you have personal injury protection? If not you have a golf cart policy instead of the required auto policy by Florida law.

I believe that you should not buy insurance solely based on price. In fact, price is not my first priority when buying insurance. You should first decide how much coverage you really need.

Many of the people who are paying $60 to $80 a year are probably carrying $100,000 in liability coverage. Personally, I think that is totally inadequate. I know of a very minor incident where someone ran over a kid's foot in a school parking lot (with a car not a golf cart) and was sued for $250,000. It actually doesn't cost much to increase the coverage.

Also, do you want uninsured motorist coverage. This adds quite a bit to your policy cost but is very worthwhile when you are injured by someone without any insurance. Again, the people who are paying $60 to $80 a year probably don't have this coverage.

Once you decide what coverage you need then you can compare rates and decide on the best policy for you.

Many factors can affect the rates that you pay. Depending on the company - Value of your golf cart, insurance coverage selected, your driving record and your credit score can all affect the rates that you pay.

You cannot get plates for a LSV unless you at least have the minimum coverage required by Florida law: $10,000 personal injury protection (PIP) and $10,000 property damage liability (PDL). (http://www.flhsmv.gov/ddl/frfaqgen.html) I'd certainly recommend everyone get much more than just these minimum coverages!

USAA is available only to active military and veterans.

Jabartle I would highly suggest you check with USAA with the PIP coverage, because when I talked to them they told me they didn't have PIP on LSV golf carts. They price is very cheep.

We had our cart insured with Allstate last year for around $60.00/Yr.
Just got renewal notice and it went up to $165.00. I called and they
said it was the medical that went way up.

Last year All State insured my 2001 club car for $60.00 (included $100,000/300,000 PL and 100,00 PD $250 deductibe on collision) Just got the renewal $134.00 for same coverage.

I see All State is up to there old tricks. (suck you in with low ball first year and then stick it to you in year two. They told me I could save $15.00 if I dropped the medical since I have medical coverage. They told you "The medical went way up??????

I have AAA for car, home and cart, find their rates are very competitve if not the lowest. Ask for Diane Dchristina...gn

I've had an Allstate golf cart policy for over 3 years at about $60/year with liability (property damage $100,000 limit and bodily injury ($100/300,000) and comprehensive (fire and theft) - no collision coverage. Just added a 2nd cart and about the same for the 2nd cart - lowered the comp limit on the 1st cart as it is worth less than 3 years ago. The old one is a little less than $60/year, the new one a little more. Have renewed it every 6 mos with so far no rate increase in over 3 years.

i have allstate on my tomberlin and they are charging the same as a second car! wonder if im getting taken for a ride?:swear:

We have Progressive for $98/Yr - wonder what you paid for that I didn't?

We've been using Allstate since 2007 to insure our Par Car Golf Cart. It runs around $80 per year. No increases yet.

my friend got a big rebate from IRS for buying a street legal electric cart but now finds the insurance is as much as a car because it is street legal...that was an unpleasant surprise...keep in mind when you buy!

We also use Allstate for Home & Carts. Coverage $250k/500k Bodily Injury, $100k Property Damage, $250 Deductible. 2008 Club Cart $60.25, 2009 Yamaha $66.07. Agent; McDonald & Co Ins. 17350 SE 109 Terr #5, Summerfield 352-347-9201. I always ask for Stephanie. Very helpful young lady.:angel:
