The price of plywood and OSB ouch!
Well I was in Lowe’s on Sunday and just happened to walk down the plywood aisle. OSB ( roof decking on all homes and wall sheathing on frame homes) was $25.45 a 7/16x 4x8 sheet and real plywood 15/32x4x8 was $42.45. Sanded plywood was $60 and up. I am sure the builders can get it somewhat cheaper. I can remember paying $7-8 dollars a sheet for OSB and when there was a major hurricane it would spike to $12 because people were boarding up with it.

Re-roofed our garden shed (wind & water damage) a few weeks ago, two sheets of 8x4x3/4 ply, one roll of roofing felt.
It cost more than the original shed, which is only five years old. Easy chair and tv were not damaged in storm. Love my shed refuge. Shed-man Bill. |

Osb
I have purchase lots of OSB for my business over the last 15 years. The price has always been very cyclical. The low was always in the area of $8.00-9.00 a sheet and the normal high of around $15.00/sheet. Three years ago OSB spiked to $24.00/sheet and then came back down to around 10.00/sheet. At Christmas time last year OSB at Lowes was $41.00/sheet. If OSB has dropped back down to $25.48 that is a 38% reduction in the past six months and the price is near the high reached three years ago.

Lumber prices are down over 50% since this year's January peak of $1,329 per thousand feet to $651 at the end of May.
Lumber prices jumped 300% from pre-pandemic prices through May 2021. Like most items, prices at the retail level go up quickly but come down slowly. |

Not long ago, lumber prices were over $1,200.00/1000bf. Recently they have been running around $590.00/1000bf. Very volitile market. j

As far a lumber, a regret I had a collection of lumber in our previous home. Stuff you can't buy for any amount of money. Wife screamed what do you need that for and I gave it away. Hum wife or lumber? Choice? Surely builders buy in volume and pay less then you would per sheet however they too pay far more than they used to. Gasoline? First time I ever heard an adult swear other than my parents was my friends father. Gasoline for his 1955 chevy which took high test went to twenty eight cents a gallon. |

Lumber commodities at $528 (1,000 bd ft) in todays paper. Down 54% YTD. Was close to $1,600 during Covid. Prices will slowly come down.
Copper (for electrical wiring) is at $4.22 lb. Also down but only 5.4% YTD. These are futures so will take some time to work into inventories. Of course many potential events can change that. :boom: :ho: |
I would like to see a cost comparison of Framed wall homes vs concrete block exterior walls now. Too lazy to do it myself

Was in lowes yesterday didn’t see one sheet of pressure treated plywood.
