Baseline to the north is a great golf course.
Baseline Golf Course, Driving Range, Ocala Florida

One of my favorites

It's a little executive course!!!! I doubt the OP had that in mind in looking for a "great" course.

Within 2 hours there are A LOT of courses, and I have no idea what is meant by great, but

Could try

Juliette Falls
Mission Inn--El Campeon course
Disney---any of the 3 courses but Magnolia is my favorite
Waldorf Astoria----greens are lightening
Innisbrook--Copperhead course
TPC Sawgrass is 2h15min but bring your piggy bank
Streamsong is about 2 hours, 3 courses, black is amazing, but you have to walk Oct-April
The courses at Shingle Creek and Champions Gate are OK, wouldn't call them "great"

I'm sure you'll get many more suggestions

rjn5656 06-14-2022 06:10 AM

These are what I am looking for. Want to take some out for a special day at a true quality golf course. Some good ideas here. Any others for Orlando?

willis100 06-14-2022 06:42 AM

other way

LPGA International is about 50 minutes but that is toward Jacksonville.

UpNorth 06-14-2022 07:47 AM

Deer Island - Great setting, and about an hour away. Harbor Hills is close by, and puts most Villages courses to shame. Mission Inn El Campigon for a classic experience. Baseline is pretty, but is only Executive length and can play pretty slow at times. All the above are an hour or less away. Julliette Falls is a bit further out, but many consider it worth the trip.

I enjoyed Stonecrest Golf Club just north of Walmart. New owners bought last month and making place better.

laboutj 06-14-2022 12:17 PM

Orange County National has two great courses (at least they did about 10 years ago when I played them). Used to be where the PGA Q school tournament was held. Great practice area too.

Keefelane66 06-14-2022 12:38 PM

Wife, myself and friends go to Orlando for golf packages guys golf ladies do what ladies do. It's nice to get out of the bubble once in awhile.Good nightlife after 9 Orlando is fun.

World Woods in Brooksville. About an hour away. Both courses were, possibly still are, in the top 100 public courses in America. Hosted a Shell’s Wonderfuf World of golf Match between Phil Mickelson and David Toms a number of years back. Tiger and O’mera would go there to practice.

Lake Jovita Semi private course 30 miles north of Tampa
World Woods 2 Fazio courses
Mission Inn it is a resort course and can be slow, good(for Florida) elevation changes

Noted someone suggested Baseline. Good condition(especially in the winter) but it plays like something between a regular golf course and an exec course.

Cammilot 06-15-2022 04:26 AM

Innisbrook Copperhead course home to Valspar Championship is a great course. Also Island course is a real challenge.

jedalton 06-15-2022 04:47 AM

expensive but a nice track

jedalton 06-15-2022 04:48 AM

Eagle Ridge

Luggage 06-15-2022 04:52 AM

Right down the road on route 44 is Pennbrooke Fairways. 27 holes and has a very nice clubhouse and restaurant. The golf course is run by the owners and golfers directly and is much better kept than most. I am not a golfer myself but a homeowner and I am telling you they are very proud of the courses. And it's very reasonable. Shush its a secret.

Worldseries27 06-15-2022 05:00 AM

I'm not a golfer. I heard someone describe a course in a club nearby ( ocala ) area that had holes patterned after classic ones

North Orlando Golf

Bella Collina Golf: An Exceptional Orlando Golf Course
The Premier Golfing Destination in Central Florida. This is a semi-private club. Exceptional golf.

Rwirish 06-15-2022 05:21 AM

WW has been sold and is or will be in the process of being renovated.

Really?????? Again, 2 of the 3 nines are executive courses. When you look at it from the 7th of Calusa, it appears to be a cow meadow.

Pete Swanson 06-15-2022 06:14 AM

Streamsong. Might be a tad over 2 hours but you'll play one, two or three of the best golf courses in Florida which are also rated in the top 100 publicly accessed tracks in the nation. Bucket list. If you're taking advantage of summer specials....be sure to bring your SPF 50. :)

rjn5656 06-15-2022 06:17 AM

any recommendations for golf in Orlando

Kgcetm 06-15-2022 06:19 AM

Streamsong. Incredible courses.

Can you play Copperhead without a stay at the resort?

Royal St Cloud Golf Links, just south of Orlando. Links style, course always in good shape and very reasonable.

Shingle Creek
Orange County National (two excellent courses and great practice area)
Falcons Fire
Celebration Golf Club
If you have the funds: Tranquilo or Waldorf Astoria

Uphillputt330 06-15-2022 07:29 AM

World Woods. Two Fantastic golf courses. Clubhouse is nothing fancy. Reasonably priced given the quality

Kevinwitgen@yahoo.com 06-15-2022 08:09 AM

Juliette Falls. Great track!

Baseline Golf Course , about 20 miles or so from TV. Beautiful Course, great Pro Shop, and no reservations needed for tee times.

OhioBuckeye 06-15-2022 09:26 AM

Yes, I agree Baseline! At least that’s what I would suggest,

OhioBuckeye 06-15-2022 09:30 AM

OK, you got a lot of great choices here, take your pick!

Jimbob the Newbie 06-15-2022 09:47 AM

It's been awhile since I was there, but the Hyatt Grand Cypress near Disney had a Nicklaus-designed course based on the Old Course at St. Andrews. I would imagine it's pricey, but I remember it was a spectacular place to play.

Again, I really don't think the OP would consider an executive course a "great" experience. And it's beyond me why anyone would travel and pay to play an exec when there are 44 of them here for free. And has anyone considered there's a reason you don't need a tee time:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Actually, the irony is that it is called the "new" course. Jack's tribute to St. Andrews.

Belva100$ 06-15-2022 08:58 PM

Ocala National. Have one hole about 600 yds straight up hill. Great price. North n west of Ocala. No far. Put in GPS.

Went there 15+ years with friends for a golf week end. Beautiful accomodations. New owners took over and villas are not there any longer. Hope it is still as good as it was. "New" Course was interesting and was a fertilizer salesmans wet dream. Have never seen so much grass on a golf course.

Disney courses, especially Magnolia. They give Orlando city rates to Villagers and possibly a senior discount.
