Anyone mow their lawn with electric lawn mower?
My neighbor is moving up north and wants to sell his 21" Kobalt self-propelled electric. Cheers! |

I and all nearby neighbors here are using battery electric lawn equipment. No one has had issues. Efficient and quiet. Love them.
I’m not a “Greenie” but lawn equip and 2 cycle small engines are quite dirty. |

My daughter uses one at her place. She says it's fine for a smaller yard.
If a larger yard, I personally would use a gas mower. |
Most brands, including kobalt, advertise deck size as mower size. Makita is an exception. A 21" mower has a 21" blade.
If you are shopping mowers I would get a Makita. They produce more tools that use their batteries than anyone else. More than DeWalt or Milwaukee. |
In the olden golden days.... have gas can filled for your lawn mowing days. Oh, make sure you have enough oil/gas mix for your accessories, because each accessory is different. Is it 2/1 mix or 3/1 mix? If you are happy with that decision making process on mowing day then go with it. Or, battery is the way to go.
|
I used one up North. I liked it very much. If I was mowing down here I would use a cordless electric. Check the availability of a replacement battery and cost.

The Kobalt he is selling is a 40 volt self propelled 21 inch. It's only a year old and he wants $125.00 for it. He paid $429.95 from Home Depot. |

I have a Makita mower (manually driven), Makita blower and Makita string trimmer. These are all 18 volt series systems. I am very impressed with the quality. I get 3-4 cuttings before having to charge the batteries on the mower. I have so many batteries, that I never have to wait for a charged one.
For what it is worth, we also have a Makita stick broom that runs off the same battery system as all the garden equipment. 1 year in, we are happy with our choices. |
You are todays problem with your attitude on electric tools. The environment is much more important than you are.

I have a battery mower. I enjoy mowing my own grass. I pay to have it mowed from April until October. It’s just too hot for me to mow it during those months. The rest of the year, it’s good exercise and a feeling of accomplishment.

For $125 I don’t think you can go wrong. Consumer reports rates the EGo as the top rated. I’ve had an electric mower for 4 years and have never had the first problem.

Cheap ones don’t last long. My EGO equipment still works perfectly. |

$125??? buy it or I will....haha
I'm going for the EGO self propelled. I really want the Milwaukee electric mower since I have been buying their series of tools for a while now but its over $1000 |

I had an acre lot at our past location, I started out using my 80v Kobalt to mow around the home and a gas riding for the larger area; well the riding mower engine went out, and for the rest of the season 3+ months (Texas) I used that 80v Kobalt mower to mow the whole acre lot, I had two batteries. Next Season, I purchase an electric riding mower rated at 2 acres. Currently, here in TV, my small lot is so easy to do; all of my lawn tools are electric, using the same battery type. Having a Mower, Blower, Hedge Trimmer, Weed wacker and Edger I use two batteries to alternate to each tool as necessary. |

Corded isn't as bad as it sounds. I have a 75' heavy-duty power cord and can easily reach every part of my yard by plugging it in the outside outlets. dragging the cord was a hassle at times until I learned a few simple tricks, such as starting close to the outlet and gradually moving farther away. Same with the hedge trimmer and weedwhacker. I figure that the equipment paid for itself in ten months, at the rate I was paying my yard guy. Besides, I like the exercise. |

The EV cars are just as bad or worse but you know the ones that have them aren’t going to say anything bad about them since they paid thousands of dollars on one. I’m telling you they’ll end up costing you a lot more in the end than they’re telling you but if you want one don’t buy a cheap 50 or $60,000. one buy the best & most expensive on the market!

It’s what I use

All that said, make sure the mower is self-propelled. I can’t imagine having to push through St. Augustine without it. Best of luck. |

We have been using the battery powered Kobalt for two years now with no problems. Easily moves through and nicely cuts the St Augustine grass.
|
Ask your neighbor if you can use it one time to cut your lawn. See how well it works for you. Does it make it through the entire yard without the battery running out? Is a second battery and charger included?
Does it cut the height you need? St Augustine is cut at 3.5 to 4 inch. Many mowers cannot get that high. Is the battery a lithium? Nicad = hard pass. NiMH = I would hesitate a lot on it, even at that price. You might also need to sharpen the blade if it hasn't been done recently. Or swap for a new one. |
I bought at Kobalt 40 volt at Lowes for $350 about 6 months ago. Easy to use!! Battery never been an issue.

I tell them why not put a lawn mower in front of you and save $$$$ and get exercise all in one. :duck: |
On a side note.
I was out in Weirsdale mower store and on the floor they have a all electric riding mower, (the kind they use in TV) 0-turn radius, 54" deck, lithium battery for $19,8898.00. They said they a lot of them........... |
