Power "blink" last night?
 

Around 7:30 PM-ish the lights blinked and Xfinity box had to re-boot.......twice.

Anybody else experience same?

We live in vicinity of Arnold Palmer CC.

At least it happened after Jeopardy.

Yes, it happened to us. We don't have Xfinity. We have DirecTV and nothing had to reboot. Just a brief blink----the air-conditioner didn't even stop. WHEW!!! Somewhere saw where we might expect "brown-outs" due to this weather. Hoping (no praying) not!! Can't imagine it!!

The Villages "management" could open the rec centers to those without power!?

Yes, same experience, same area.

We had half hour, of no xfinity WiFi, not a big deal. Didn’t lose power for more than a minute. Didn’t have to reboot.

There were 2 SECO outages in the area just north of 466 and the area of morse, around 7:52 and 7:53 if I recall correctly.

That seems right. Happened here in Lynnhaven, too.

So in general when something makes contact with power lines the system will attempt to clear the lines which is the blimps you see. A third time means the lines could not be cleared and the power is shutdown until the item is physically removed.

In general you are correct, depending on the utility practice. These are called reclosures, and the utility I worked for used Instantaneous, 10 seconds and 30 to 60 seconds. If the breaker tripped again after the 3rd try it stayed open. SECO appears to use a first and second try then stay open, until manually or remotely closed.

Yes, we also experienced those power interruptions......lasted half a second a couple of times. I'm in Mallory Square.

Yep for Amelia too. Maybe 1 second twice. Nothing, including Xfinity or our garage freezer had to be rebooted. The freezer is weird, compressor won't come back after a 5+ second outage. Have to power off then on (not this time as it was so quick). Manufacturer says this is how it is supposed to work to save the compressor. We have a Wi-Fi power outage alarm and a remote Wi-Fi controlled outlet on the freezer so we get notified and can reset if we are away. We have battery backup for modem/router so we will get notified if power goes out. Not 100% failure proof but probably 80%. So far, 100% :)

Wonder how many Tesla (or other electric car) owners were charging their cars at that time. Grid will only handle so much:boom:

My power went off for a second or two and then came back on long enough for the router to reboot. Then it went off for about an hour or so. A neighbor was stuck in her electric powered recliner when she lost her power and couldn't get out of it until the power came back on. Imagine her panic.

Yup - same thing in Belvedere.

Make sure you impress on her the need to have a plan for when this happens again. Possibly never get in that recliner without the cell phone and have a hidden key or a garage keypad so someone could get in to help her. She’s lucky the power came back on when it did. All I know is this power outage thing if it continues is a disturbing trend. I’m in Pine Hills and we lost power for an hour and a half on Tuesday. I cranked and ran my generator so it wasn’t a huge deal. We are Leesburg power customers and power outages here are not uncommon (I refer to it as Third world power co) but SECO almost never blinks. I love my generator and yes it is powered by fossil fuel(expensive non-ethanol fossil fuel)!

How does one get "stuck" in their recliner, electric powered or not? I cannot picture it.

Very true.....I cannot recall the last time SECO has had any interruption in service, besides this latest "blink".

I gave it some thought about the person getting stuck in the power recliner chair. I can imagine if someone is mobility challenged, the ability to get out of a reclined chair may be a challenge if there was no one to help.

To the persons who commented not knowing about "powered chairs". When some folks lose mobility and core strength (many reasons for this). The chair has a capability to be like a hoist of sorts. It reclines for comfort then when the occupant wants to get up it will lift forward. In theory it's great! BUT if the electrical source is cut off and the person is in the reclining mode, they are stuck. As we all age we will lose strength in one way or other.....my brother used to say that "getting old isn't for sissies".

I'm sitting here, having a cup of coffee wondering why anyone would care if anyone else's power blinked. Why would that matter? Now that you know the obvious answer, what will you do with the information?

The solution is very simple buy a UPS (Best Buy) and plug the chair(s) into the UPS, when the power goes out the chairs will still work.

Just like the power recliners in the modernized movie theaters.

Don't most UPSs last only a few minutes? I thought their purpose was to allow enough time to shut down electronics. Maybe they've been building longer lasting ones.

An auto re-closing breaker in all likelihood caused this momentary blip. This also may happen when a substation operator is carrying out a switching order. Basically taking one feeder off line and replacing it with a different one.

I am retired utility employee as well.

The utility I worked for had it set like that.

Another option is to buy this universal furniture battery from Amazon. Apparently, it can be installed in-line and will automatically recharge continuously.

I do know power outage’s & surges are hard on appliances. But you’ll probably never hear the power Co. admitting it or do they!

We had rolling black outs in at least 4 Villages for about 1 hr each a few days ago. I had to leave my house it was so hot and I had to figure out how to manually open my garage to get the car out. I was so happy to be in my car with the AC on full blast.

Imagine adding thousands or even millions of electric cars to the electric grid? If the power goes out, you can’t charge your vehicle no less watch tv. Guess they haven’t figured that one out yet.

UPS are available in many sizes (capabilities), the one the our recliners are plugged into will support the CONTINOUS operation of the recliners for well over 20 minutes, and you only need about 10 to 15 seconds. The unit is about 4 inches by 8 inches aby 3 inches and cost around $75 from Best Buy. A slightly larger one power (and protects) my wifes long arm quilting machine. This was recommended by the long arm installer.

Best to get Solar panels and battery backup then no interference 🤪
