Anybody else watching The Old Man on FX

I have gotten hooked on watching the series The Old Man on FX. If you have enjoyed the Jack Ryan or Jack Reacher series you would probably enjoy this series.

I am recording it as I thoroughly enjoyed the first show.

I guess I enjoy this type of show as I liked "Buried in Barstow" even more. Lifetime Schedules Angie Harmon Movie Series Buried in Barstow - TV Fanatic

Back in the day I enjoyed "The Fugitive", "The Prisoner" and "I Led Three Lives", same kind of stuff.

Excellent Series on FX next day on Hulu.

Marathon Man 06-28-2022 01:29 PM

Yep. Pretty darned good.

Badger 2006 06-28-2022 01:53 PM

Great!

MartinSE 06-28-2022 02:10 PM

I started to the other night. It didn't catch my attention in the first 30 or 45 minutes so I left it.

Blueblaze 06-28-2022 05:32 PM

I've been enjoying the show, but what''s with all the F-bombs? Remember when that was an instant R rating? Why can't hollyweird just tell a story once in a while without screaming the F-bomb in my ear every ten minutes?

I watch it on Hulu. Do they leave all that bad language in the FX cable version? FX isn't a pay channel. The sex scene last week was pretty explicit, too. Do the rules not apply anymore?

Welcome to the permissive society where where selective enforcement and anything goes, by for and to anybody.

Jeff Bridges is almost always a good show.

I don't understand, it offends you, but you watch it. Try to guess how they decide what to show - it might have something to do with watching it.

Of course the nanny state protecting you is so much easier than changing the channel.

FX and HULU are not broadcast channels different rules apply I’d suggest you change the channel. Try watching Yellowstone.

Will have to give this a try

Speedie 06-28-2022 08:13 PM

Good show. Spoiler - first half hour starts very slow. Hang in there, it will grab you

tophcfa 06-28-2022 09:02 PM

Really enjoyed the first three episodes, looking forward to Thursday night for the fourth. The Dude rocks as the Old Man. FX and AMC continuously put out the best shows. The big four big networks continue to put out garbage.

I find it refreshing that they display real life behavior instead of scrubbing everything into some kind of make believe PG world.

Just use closed captioning and close your eyes during the nude scenes.

Love The Dude, but....

...he's a bit over the hill for the hand-to-hand action stuff (much like Liam Neesen these days). I like the premise of the show so I'll watch it and suspend my disbelief of that one aspect.

i agree with you. I especially don't understand why at this point in our lives " viewing rules" are important to anyone.

Yes we are watching - thanks for asking!

caseycasebeer 06-29-2022 06:22 AM

The Old Man....

When I first saw it advertised, the title caught my attention (...gee, I wonder why???)

Like Speedie, the first thirty minutes or so didn’t seem very captivating but I decided to “hang in there.” Now, after episode 3, I can hardly wait for the next episode!

I may have to rewatch the episodes (I didn’t even notice the language or the steamy parts!). Damn.

kcrazorbackfan 06-29-2022 06:33 AM

That is a great show! Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow are great characters in it.

rrtjp 06-29-2022 06:38 AM

I’m enjoying it, can’t wait till the next episode. I love Jeff Bridges, he is also a pretty good musician as well as an actor.

i've left many of my 4 big network shows behind because of their blatant pandering. The ratings systems are aware of former loyal viewers who have left. Their metrics are so spot on they know the most rewound and favorite scenes of all the movies and shows. Basically all viewers should vote with their remotes. They're watching. The dropoff in awards shows ratings is killing them.

The quality of the acting, script, and cinematography are all very good. I’m enjoying it.

Yeah, it's developing into a good series. Jeff Bridges does a very good job.

Love Jeff Bridges, so will check it out. Seen Reacher and Ryan, now looking forward to Chris Pratt in The Terminal List July 1st on Amazon Prime Video.

Villages Kahuna 06-29-2022 08:10 AM

I like it a lot. You’re right, very similar to Jack Ryan and a couple others. By the way, wasn’t there supposed to be another season of Jack Ryan?

I just wish all the episodes of The Old Man were available so I could really binge on it.

So is Lithgow tho he usually plays the wimpy pseudo-villain you love to hate.

They do one heck of a lot of pandering and lucky we have found quite a few shows on prime and netflix to watch.

These days have no idea who are up for awards at any of these so called award shows.

Veiragirl 06-29-2022 10:26 AM

Grow up!!!! This is no longer the day of mrs cleaver. And hopefully will not return.

traveler9 06-29-2022 10:34 AM

Yes. It is an interesting series. Also Dark Winds on Sunday nights.

Stu from NYC 06-29-2022 10:57 AM

Looked at whether we can get it and just saw we only have two episodes available. Wonder why only two?

It’s one of those series that’s doing the old style one-episode-per-week release. :)

LianneMigiano 06-29-2022 11:32 AM

We are hooked on Heartland (14 seasons with about 18 episodes each season!) on Netflix. It's not the type of movie that we normally watch (I like courtroom/detective/drama movies) but it's really good!

Very surprised we liked it but really enjoyed it. Will start watching season 15 in a few weeks. Very disappointed the guy playing the Vet decided to leave.
