27 Unlocked Vehicles Burglarized
 

During the last weekend of June, deputies in Marion County responded to the 2300 block of NE 23rd Pl. in reference to vehicle burglaries. The victim advised that two unlocked vehicles were entered and several items were stolen. Further investigation revealed that an additional six unlocked vehicles were also burglarized. Dumb enough to leave valuable items in an unlocked car or even a locked vehicle?

No sympathy here!

Foolish to leave doors unlocked but hope they catch the crooks

If someone really needed a weapon WHY would one leave it an unlocked vehicle

We have become such a corrupt world.

Great ? Just like some people keeping weapons with them when they intend to board a plane.

Even worse is when perpetrators cut hole in the bottom of a gas tank to get whatever amount of gas is in the tank. They could get $10-$20. in gas and it will cost you and/or your insuance company at least $500.

Not stolen it was free for the taking
 

I'm a born New Yorker, we were taught to lock up everything as soon as we could hold a key.
There was a news piece a few years back where an FBI agent's gun and ID was stolen from his open car.
Why leave things in your open car, just put it on your front lawn with a sign.

This happened in Silver Springs, twenty-five miles from The Villages and at the edge of the Ocala National Forest, known as a haven for drug addicts and crime. Not our neighborhood!

I'm from here and this didn't use to be like New York. We never locked our car doors much less our house. I did have someone come into the house once to borrow some items. Next day items were returned cleaned along with a pie for the thanks.
And that was only 10 or so years ago.

Another self righteous know it all heard from. Forget the fact that criminals are committing crimes in favor of blaming the victims.

Are the hundreds of golf carts parked in the town squares with golf clubs and other belongings “dumb” as well?

They can't, signs are considered lawn ornaments.

I doubt locked doors stop them if they see something of value? At least they don’t have replace window also. Yes, look might stop rookie teen. But, not going to stop the seasoned methhead needing fix. Fools leave something of value in plain site.

No idea why they would leave the doors unlocked. There are times when you go to a location that specifies no weapons permitted. For that I have a lockbox (LandRover offers it as an add on) to put it in. I can not imagine a way to justify leaving it in an unlocked vehicle.

Had a 3PL company in NY. Use to leave the trailer doors unlocked and open in the yard overnight so no one would smash the lock and door to see what was inside to steal. What a world.

The question here has less to do with the car being unlocked and more why would anyone leave anything in their car that they didn't want to be stolen.

I was working in midtown in New York in the middle of the day when a junkie broke the driver's side window of a stuntman's car. One of the cops caught the guy and alerted the stuntman who asked the cop to walk away.

Now was right the way the stuntman handled it; I'm not going to be the judge?
But he was wrong to leave anything in his car in plain view that he didn't want stolen.

So the car owners deserved it?

Twenty two years ago wife and I left our clubs on cart without a thought of losing them. Not now. Wouldn't leave anything unattended anywhere in TV.

Of course it's taking a huge chance leaving expensive sport equipment open for the taking.

Looks like an all-american city to me. Very diverse and therefore vibrant.

Never heard of cutting for gas, but cutting out the cat converter from a vehicle has been going on for years in various states. $900 to replace and install protection bars. Takes 5 minutes to steal. When starting up the vehicle and the motor sounds like a lawnmower (but isn't one) then that's likely what happened.

San Francisco police recommend NOT LOCKING cars in order to avoid broken windows and locks. Leave cars unlocked and without valuables and open the console & glove box to show the "disadvantaged" there is nothing for them to take.

And in some gang areas people place items such as crowns in their cars to reduce vandalism.

WHO is stupid enough to leave a gun in a car?

Who the hell leaves their vehicles unlocked parked ANYWHERE?
I even lock my Toyota parked in the garage.

Leaving your golf clubs on your cart in a strip mall shopping area while you grab a sandwich or something at Publix is quite different than leaving them with other carts at C.C. near the golf shop while you grab something to eat with fellow golfers. The former is a bit “risky” and the latter not so much. That said, leaving valuables in plain sight makes no sense. However, leaving your clubs on your cart could be convenient. My clubs are 10 years old and are not that valuable but perhaps yours are. BTW, most newer cars lock automatically when you get 25 feet away. To each his own…

I had MMA fighter living on my street at another location. He never had problem with sticky fingers, he jogged 1/3 of day/nights, kind like having bull terrier guarding the neighborhood, and everybody was as friendly as could be. Bottom line didn’t want to pLss him off.

I tried on a bet to leave my car unlocked overnight. I made it until about 1 AM and I had to lock it up. It's in my DNA to not trust. It's the way it is and it ain't gonna ever change.

I feel sorry for those who got clipped but come on. Wake Up! We live in a nice place but it ain't Mayberry.

No one deserves to be robbed/burgled.
But.
If you leave valuables/weapons laying around in a locked or unlocked car don't cry about being robbed.
