Rock Music
I'll be moving to TV this month and was wondering do any of the squares have bands that play Led Zeppelin, The Who, Aerosmith and some of the more harder music from the mid seventies to the late 80's?
|
Stu;
We don't go often but one of the bands you seek is The Hooligans. They will play some of what you desire. Best band that plays at the squares. |
Uncle Bob's Rock Shop plays selections from those three bands along with Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Brian Adams, Billy Idol, Judas Priest, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc.

The ones who aren't, are few and far between and not that talented. |
How about a good classic rock FM station. I’ve been listening to wmmo 98.9 from Orlando but the reception isn’t very good.
|
Almost all the residents of The Villages enjoy music a couple of generations removed from this bands. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard bands hired for the squares covering music from the bands you’ve mentioned.

Unfortunately, the Hooligans recently signed a one-year contract with Disney. They play at EPCOT 5-days a week. They are not on the schedule for The Village squares - but happy for them!

Rock on!

If you want American rock from the same era, catch the “Spazmatics” they are a blast to see and mostly the same guys from the Hooligans. They show up on the squares. |
Ohiobuckeye
I think they play what draws crowds not necessarily what a couple of people want. Everybody have different taste!

Get the Villages app and go to calendar, type, entertainment, where, and select town squares. You’ll get a months worth of entertainment schedules at all 3 squares.
It looks like this….. |
They must have just gotten the Epcot residency since I saw them here last week!

The biggest change in the music at the squares came about because of Covid. Prior to 2020 most of the bands were local talent either from The Villages or the areas surrounding The Villages. When Covid hit in late 2019, most, if not all, of the clubs in Orlando shut down. The bands that were playing there were very talented and full time professional musicians. many found that the squares were a good gig. They paid very well and working 5-9 in a nice atmosphere was better than playing clubs until 2 in the morning and having drunks throw up on you amplifier. As time went by, more and more of these professional Orlando bands made their way into The Villages and much of the local talent was phased out. I played on the squares a few times and a lot of my friends played them as well before Covid. Now it's very difficult for those bands to get booked. Once in a while I see some of my friends playing but those gigs are few and far between. The other thing that is happening is that new generations are coming into The Villages. For most of us, the music that we love is what was popular when we were in high school and college. I was in high school in the 60s but many of the people moving here today were in high school in the 70s and 80s. Disco was king in the 70s and tech music came along in the 80s. There's a lot of that in the squares these days. And as someone commented earlier, the goal seems to get people up to do line dancing. But there is variety. You just have to look online to see who's playing where. |
As our gen X numbers increase I'm sure the music will change to reflect it. The boomers can't hold on much longer!

I’m a dinosaur, give me music along the lines from The Great American songbook ala Sinatra, Bublè, Dean or Tony Bennett. Side note I grew up and loved Zepplin, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, ELP and Yes.

If ya don't want anyone puking on your amp...cut your band mates off before the last set! I can't imagine a Crybaby becoming a Cry-squishy either...lol.

I have seen them at EPCOT - also look at the Hooligan's website/Facebook acct. It states they will be at EPCOT and have a one-year contract. |

Check out the tribute bands at the Savannah Center. Tickets are cheap and the bands have been very good. The Zeppelin band did a great job and I was surprised how loud they crank it up even though it’s run by the Villages.

I heard the hooligans for the first time earlier this year. I was really surprised how well they covered Led Zeppelin. I hope they make it back frequently in 2023.

Best wishes to The Hooligans!
