1. Go to the State Dept website.
2. Fill out Form DS-82 online and print it out.
3. Go to Walgreens and get passport photos.
4. Take the form, photos, your current passport, and your checkbook to one of the Post Offices or Government offices that is authorized to accept passport applications.
5. I recommend paying for both the passport booklet and the passport card. But, you can save about $60+ by not paying for the expedited service because you probably won't get it any sooner anyway.

If you haven’t done so already - After you renew you passport, consider getting the global entry card under the Trusted Traveler program at U.S. Customs and Border Protection | U.S. Customs and Border Protection. It requires an application and an interview but will save you time going through immigration. Also, the known traveler number will get you in the TSA precheck at airports.

Not needed. Use the free customs app. Pay for expedited passport service when renewing

How to Get my U.S. Passport Fast

Mobile Passport Control | U.S. Customs and Border Protection

Select this option if your international travel date is in the next 5 to 7 weeks.

Form DS-82 must be mailed in unless you are eligible to renew in-person at a passport agency or center. To find out if you are eligible to use Form DS-82, see our Renew a Passport page. Here's how to expedite a renewal by mail:

Fill out your DS-82 application and collect your documents.
Be sure to include the $60 expedite fee in addition to the normal application fee. See Passport Fees for more information.
Clearly mark "EXPEDITE" on the outside of the envelope.
The expedite fee does not include the optional 1-2 day delivery fee.
Purchase USPS' Priority Mail Express for faster shipping of your application to us.

My husband renewed by mail a few months ago. Got photo at Walgreens. Got new passport in a month. Did not pay for expedited service.

I agree. They offer no guarantee that paying for the expedited service will get your passport faster. In my experience, it is ripoff.

Good advise.

Clear is another option that helps get through security much faster, especially at MCO with all the families.

Enjoy a faster, safer, touchless way through airport security, venue entrances, and beyond.

I usually grab my international checked bags and take as carry on once in the US to save time getting to my connection.

My wife and I renewed ours by mail. It takes a couple extra weeks, but you’ve got plenty of time. USPS worked like a charm for us.

The Villages has an office that will do all the work for you. It's on Aveune Central a block in from 441.

I read the US State Dept is moving.or will be moving soon to online renewals where there are no security concerns. Global Entry customers, for instance, will have the fastest processing.

Go to the Sumter County Tax Collector's office on 446/Morse Blvd. That's where you renew your license, etc. They have an office there that will take your picture, review your documents and give you an addressed envelope to mail. Less than 6 weeks.

DON'T WAIT!
Mine took 5 months last year.

Just renewed ours and got them in less than 5 weeks.

A photo taken at CVS $16.00 Same photo taken at Sumter courthouse, $5.00.
I found out the hard way.

Passport

Renewed mine earlier this year. It didn't expire until November, but I kept hearing horror stories about six-month processing times. Only took 6 weeks. One thing I did not like is I assumed my new passport would start when my old one expired, but it didn't. It was effective in March when they renewed it and expires ten years from that date. So, I effectively lost about 7 months' time.

Had our pix taken at Walgreens no appt necessary and sent ours in. We'll see how long it takes.

LOL. That is almost the exact time that independent website forums say that it takes. 33 days. But, the State Department says that the routine processing time is 8 to 11 weeks plus mailing time of up to 2 weeks. So, either the Government doesn't know how long they take to process a passport, or they are intentionally providing false information to get you to pay their $60 expedited processing fee. I would like to know how the Government can justify the expedited service fee. What can they do with $60 to process it faster? Actually, it probably costs thousands of dollars for the Government to process a passport.

I suggest doing this ASAP for two reasons:

1) Many have experienced delays of months. Some say paying for expedited does not help.

2) A large number of countries - possibly most, I'm not sure- will not let you in unless you have 6 months or more to go on your passport.

I concur about Global Entry. Little known fact:

I was not scheduled for TSA pre-check. I asked why not at the check-in desk. The clerk asked to see my physical Global Entry card. She moved me to TSA pre-check on the spot.

So, travel with the Global Entry card wherever you go.

We usually go to the post office, pay the fee and they send it off. Comes back in 3-6 weeks.

And they will take your photo and it's cheaper than Walgreen's.

Be sure the site you use has .gov as there are sites that will "help" you renew your passport.

Actual "processing" time is probably one man-hour (can I still say that?).

The rest of the time you passport is sitting at the bottom of L'shwandas "IN" box.

Dilligas 07-03-2022 04:05 PM

Don't wait or put it off......some countries will not all you in if your passporte expires within 6 months. It does not take that long to get it, but if you travel between now and then, you may have problems.

Interesting. 3 months ago I called that office and was told they no longer do passport photos!

ogme480 07-04-2022 06:24 AM

We recently took a short drive to the County Clerk’s Office in Bushnell and found the experience most gratifying. No appointment required. They took our pictures, assisted us in filling out the forms, proofread our work, told us how to make out our checks and placed all correspondence in a USPS envelope that we took down the street to the post office and mailed before we left town. Bring your existing passports and emergency contact info, as no phones allowed in side the building. Worst case scenario is you’d have to finish the process at home if you don’t have all your info readily available.

I just renewed mine in March. Just walked into Annex office, no appointment needed, and there was only one person ahead of me. I hope this was just a temporary pause in this service!
