New Driving Law in Florida

A new law in Florida went into effect on July 1. This new law states that the music from your vehicle cannot be heard more than 25 ft. away from your vehicle. Police officers can pull drivers over if the music is “plainly audible.” According to the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, “the officer

Unless they are parked near enough to my home to bother me, I don't care. It's their ears they are harming with the loud noise. If they are driving by, it's merely a distraction. I am more concerned about bad driving than about noisy driving.

Dusty_Star 07-03-2022 07:32 AM

Sounds like a good rule. Too bad basic politeness needs to be legislated.

How true!

When they get the speeding and all the other moving violations under control......

we can talk about how they are going to enforce....25 feet? Too loud (as measured by?:1rotfl:

Altavia 07-03-2022 08:55 AM

The BillyBob trucks with loud cut out exhausts are far more annoying...

No measurement required. The law is actually simple and clear, if the officer can hear the music (no matter what kind) and the officer believes they are about 25 feet away, they can issue the citation and the fine is $115 or there about, depending on the location.

It probably won't be enforce as a reason to pull over, but it is one more tool in their arsenal.

So much for freedom in Florida.

I suspect this law has something to do with my driving around the Villages with my windows open and singing

Or the loud motorcycles with modified exhaust, or the vintage cars/trucks without their original
muffler system.

Not a problem. I'll just pull the car over, put the speakers on the sidewalk, and boogie from there instead of behind the wheel.

How often does this or could happen in TV?

Seems like half the pickup trucks have loud exhaust.

ever been at or near the Villages new home construction areas?

literally every single contractor, worker, delivery - drives thru at 2x to 4x the speedlimit, music blaring half the time, throwing trash about, parking where ever & doing what ever they like.

One would think they would have rules for those that come into the villages to perform work, but apparently not. :/

Or the Honda Civic with 4 inch exhaust.

coralway 07-03-2022 09:14 PM

for a free state, sure do have a lot of laws.

billethkid 07-04-2022 08:15 AM

Enforcement will determine whether it is just eye wash......I am sure this one will not be a page one priority...with selective enforcement (if any) like all the other moving violations.

Fast Freddy 07-04-2022 08:32 AM

The killer height of jacked up vehicles, why isn't this height mandated so small cars won't be ripped apart by a tall vehicle frame? Even a medium size car could be taken out if the frame heights are extreme in a crash.

Great idea. Unfortunately, like the left hand lane law, I suspect that it will rarely be enforced.

Rainger99 07-04-2022 10:10 AM

Is this with the windows up or down??

Yes

Bill14564 07-04-2022 10:16 AM

Before cheering this new way of keeping Florida safe and free, go out in your driveway and try it. A normal voice easily carries 25 feet. It won't take much to be in violation.

Chi-Town 07-04-2022 10:20 AM

Nothing worse than a loud base with crummy speakers. Should be ticketed and confiscated.

PugMom 07-04-2022 02:09 PM

i think the law should consider what TYPE of music is playing. some Tull can only be enjoyed @ louder levels

MrChip72 07-04-2022 06:05 PM

How about making it illegal to upgrade your rims, stereo system or any aesthetic features to your car when it has windows, bumper(s) or other important components in serious need of repair or missing entirely, etc? I see this all over Florida where people just seem to think that a better stereo system or larger chrome wheels will mask the rest of their vehicle falling apart.

spd2918 07-06-2022 11:45 PM

This will not be enforced. Florida deserves its reputation of the worst drivers in the country.

courtyard 07-07-2022 08:32 AM

Thank God for this law. If you ever lived in a college town, you will know how important it is. You could be lying in bed and hear loud base playing cars go by blocks away.
