Another Villages hit piece
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvMMXjJjRFw
Some takeaways: This guy hates the fact you're enjoying your life. He cant believe there is such thing as a golf cart mechanic We have our own strain of an std. We're all rich racists and everyone hates us. Everyone here is afraid of the evil developers Oh and TRUMP.....waaaaaaaahhh Long time villager sets him straight in the nicest way possible and he's forced to walk back his BS. 98% village positive comments |
I didn't think it was a it piece at all. He was pretty positive for the most part.

Maybe he cracked a few jokes at the Villages and residents but I've heard worst about the Villages.
|
I think the video poster Nick lives in California and is a conservative or independent politically.
I've been watching his videos for a year and some are pretty funny especially when he makes up a song about the city. He normally is positive about Florida's nice areas and so I was shocked at his headline and comments about The Villages. The person first interviewed on the video is actually very positive about living here. So I don't understand Nick's negative headlines about being conservative and all. In other videos he ranks Florida as a nice place to live in certain areas. |

the person who posted this video is obviously young and lacks common sense, views the world through uneducated glasses and narrow view of the world at large.
|
I enjoyed the televised interview with the gentleman. I felt his comments were succinctly expressed and right on the money.
|
I enjoyed the video. TV is a beautiful place with tons of fun activities, a nice choice of restaurants/shopping. Even the guy who made the video said that he could see himself living there once he's 55+. TV might seem like a bit of a "bubble" but it's a very nice bubble.

It seems some of the respondents didn’t see the same video I did.
|
I think he put the woman in as a counterbalance to the gentleman he interviewed. The problem is he was articulate and she was decidedly not, therefore not the counter view he may have been striving for.
|
Had Positives & Negatives
It seemed both Positive and Negative. I would not consider it a modern masterpiece, the first part did seem negative but after he began talking to that guy it made more sense. The woman from New York, I began to see her point of view and maybe she would be happier back home.
|
It looked pretty positive to me ....

I will need to take this in small doses.
Did not know it was about 30 minutes long. I got through the first ten minutes or so. Will return. In the 17 years we have been here I have met many people who moved here and seemed to love it here but only a few who moved here and then moved somewhere else. And a couple who moved right next door to the Villages. |

Alternative facts. I believe that's the phrase you people use when you're in denial |
Mostly he was on point but very sarcastic.
|
It seems like a realtor agent's pitch for helping people move to the Villages.
Most of it was very positive. The lady commentator was cut off in the video I watched around the 30 minute mark and got a very small amount of time to express her opinions. |
At the beginning of the video, he was a sarcastic, condescending little ****. All the "What the hells?" and such... But one he started interviewing the gentleman, his demeanor suddenly changed and he was much more polite.
With the lady, well she was a mess... I doubt she'd be happy anywhere... |
Why is this video even important or of any interest. If you like it in TV, then enjoy it and don’t worry about “hit pieces”. If you are insecure and need constant positive reinforcement then get yourself worked up. Life is too short to worry about this kind of noise.
|
I do believe he could find many, many people to give there opinion about The Villages. Just ask anyone. 99% will tell you how great it is to be here!

I thought it was pretty even-handed. I thought the gentleman who agreed to be interviewed was spot on with his assessments. He said many things I have thought, or said. His view that people come here thinking it's a vacation spot, and have to learn that it's not that, it's a place to live. Some of the glitz and sparkle that appeals to people when they visit for a few days wears off, and you have to get comfortable with the daily living, which IMO is pretty sweet.
I really enjoyed his commentary. |

My opinion as well. The gentleman was articulate, soft spoken, and his comments were well thought out. |
The only opinion that counts is our own. This kind of post and thread will be going on forever. We don't pay it any mind at all unless an OP takes shots at specific Villages then watch out.

Same thought 98% are positive. The 2% may be right. |
Hardly a hit piece. Somewhat the opposite.

The guy "Nick or Nic" that did the video, does videos on different parts of the the US. I know him from his "Don't Go Here in <This State>" videos.
He is snarky, but that is his gimmick. Otherwise, it would be Fun With Flags, by Sheldon from Big Bang Theory. He looks at crime and income statistics from communities in every state and makes observations. His comments on The Villages started off by acknowledging some stereotypes, talking about Wildwood, and about other aspects of The Villages. I think his interview with gentleman villager actually endeared him to The Villages some. The lady had some valid observations, but she seemed like a mess. I have experienced on numerous occasions that you are golden until you say something, albeit defensible, contrary to "The Villages is Heaven." Heaven probably ain't Heaven either -- I bet you get, maybe, 30 cable channels at best. Most of them are going to be religious content. I'm sure they have streaming, but that is probably only for baptisms and bathing. I'm sure there will be No golf carts because they would mare the golden MMP paths. Yeah, Heaven is going to take some time to adjust, just like The Villages. |
I actually liked this video and will link it for others asking about it so they can see for themselves. The visuals are great. I would even use without the sound, but it's okay to have a few things explained too. I just can't answer the orgy/std stuff without personal experience.

Anybody ever here the prevailing rumor about women in the bar at City Fire Sumter? If they are wearing pink slippers that means they are guaranteed to sleep with you. I heard this rumor before moving here but never tried to test it out. My wife thinks that it's an old wives tale, but I often wonder why she has a closet full of pink slippers.
As far as the orgy/std thing, when people ask me about that I remind them that it's a retirement community and the men here are more interested in golf. |

STDs are average. That rumor is just nuts as are most rumors
