very sad. Highland Park , where the parade was, is a highly upscale neighborhood. Michael Jordan used to have a mansion there. It's on Chi-town's north side right along the lake. The city itself is a cesspool these days, as the shooting and death count just this weekend is skyrocketing.

I personally have good memories of Chicago, but that was a long, long time ago.

I lived in Wisconsin most of my life and Chicago was concerned a cesspool to us.
Even the politicians in Milwaukee all came out of Chicago, ran for office, retired then
crawled back to Chitown.

The City of Highland Park is a northern suburb of Chicago and about 25 miles north of the city itself. The perpetrator has yet to be caught.

In UK 2020/21 there were 235 homicides where knives were involved.
The weapon of choice since guns were banned.

Sadly throughout our country these mass murders are taking place it seems on a weekly basis. Police officers are targets, innocent civilians are killed, it isn’t even safe to go to a mall, a gas station, a church, driving in one’s car, a park, or enjoy a parade without worrying some insane maniac might shoot at you. Half the time these killers don’t even have a motive for their murdering rampages.

Why is it that you think poster needs another drink. Guessing you know them personally, otherwise, just a rude post to someone you have zero knowledge of.

My question for all those who want to ban guns is, how do you explain and deal with what happens every single weekend in Chicago wbi h has the strictest gun laws in the country? Bad people will always be able to get a gun but we want to foolishly take guns away from away abiding citizens. How upside down can our society get?

This area, known as Chicago’s “North Shore” to locals, is among the wealthiest collection of suburbs in the country. These are idyllic towns that look like they came out of a Hallmark movie, and are home to many movers, shakers, captains of industry and their very, very privileged families. In other words, this kind of thing isn’t supposed to happen there.

But it did. And the knee-jerk reaction was swift and predictable. “BAN GUNS!!” Illinois, Chicago and the suburbs arguably have the strictest gun laws in the country. But this still happened, and Chicago continues to make national headlines for the daily body counts. People are getting numb to it. “Ho hum. Another 50 people shot this weekend. Pass the salt.”

Maybe we should stop castrating our police departments, stop electing soft-on-crime prosecutors and woke political leadership, stop focusing on identity and pronouns instead of competence, and stop the indoctrination in the classroom that no longer teaches America the Beautiful, but America the Oppressor.

The problem is that our culture is suffering from severe mental illness. You combine that with easy access to guns and this is what you get. No, it's not just the guns and it's not just the mental health problem. But combine those two and it's like the synergistic effect, and we have this explosion of gun violence. Yes, we need better mental health and yes we need more gun control.

To use Chicago as an example of gun control not working is an outlier and a problem with social conditions there. If you look across the board at other nations with strict gun control, it does work. The fact that we don't follow their example is a sign of cultural mental illness.

When you look at other countries that have strict gun control, you will see that they are Socialist or Communist countries (Australia and Great Britain are Socialist), and not Democratic Republics (which the U.S. is). But, let's not go there.

Rather than disparage Chicago, how many of you on this thread are willing to take a stronger stand on weapon ownership and if so, what would it be? ONLY asking to hear from those who believe that a stronger stand on weapons is necessary.

I think you miss the point. Chicago's insanely high shooting numbers are not due to people with legal guns.

Weekly? This is was 308th mass shooting this year and it's the beginning of July.

It’s very simple. The USA has the highest per capita gun ownership of any other country on the planet. Thereby, by your logic, the USA should be by far the safest country to live on the planet. That is not true. It’s not even close to being true. Consequently, your logic is flawed.

Another thing many like to cherry pick….”Chicago with the strongest gun laws…” Strong gun laws mean nothing in overall statistics, when anyone can drive a few miles to another nearby state and get their weapons with less strict gun laws. Thereby, cancelling out any statistical value to one small area having strict gun laws. It becomes irrelevant, unless all are following the same strict laws. Like our forefathers implied, I’m all for every citizen of the USA to carry a musket. No problem at all. I am against any citizen owning a gun that enables them to kill “faster” without reloading using bullets that explode inside a persons body Lessing their survivability, and it decapitating childrens heads. This type of weaponry is absurd to be accessible by someone not trained and lack maturity to handle them.

So, if the shooting numbers aren’t due to people with legal guns, what is your solution to the issue?

We have close to four hundred million people in the country. Many of these came from countries where violence is a way of life. The US is the New York Yankees of the world. We should choose who we allow to immigrate into the US. Not ONLY look for rocket scientists, but people looking for a better life who show that they will add to the country. Bring something positive. Hard worker, tight family ties, overcame hardships etc.. The thousands of MS13, Latin Kings that we let enter and move freely throughout the country is a recipe for disaster. We will still have the mental health issues shootings unfortunately.

That is not hard to answer population density - Chicago has more people that most red states. And Wyoming has what 13 people?

You are conflating two things - legal immigration and sanitary seekers. If you don't want immigrants then pass laws outlawing immigration. If you don't want to get people sanctuary then change the law that lets them in.

And how many "illegal immigrants" have been involved in mass shootings? Just curious.

I object to the generalized casting character of America and what she is and who lives there and what they do based on a current incident.....and in the current climate....shootings are the "measure".....only because all too many do nothing more than parrot the media (and their agenda).

We Americans as a whole are not what the media and the parrots prefer to portray!!

UK government is Conservative, and way to the right of present US government.
We have a social medical ( not private as in USA) and pension system (just like your SS system) which we pay for in taxes etc.
We are as capitalist as USA in our business dealings, and nearly all other services are private businesses, and like the US, we get no free dinners!
