I guess I am desperate to locate a reputable pool repair company here in TV. I have weekly service with TOUCHED BY ANGELS and more than satisfied; however, I need a company that "repairs" pools. My pool is 11 years old and is beginning to need some help. I just recently spent over $600 to repair a leaking valve. And, last week, my pump motor went out on me. The repair costs were absolutely ridiculous:

Pump motor $600,
Seal $25.00
Installation labor $125.00
Fuel Surcharge $15
TOTAL $765.00
(can you believe those numbers? I priced the motor cost on Google and highest was $400+ and labor for 1-hour $125 (lawyers charge less) and Fuel Surcharge.

I want any company that does work for me to make a profit, but not make a profit only solely me.

I would list the name of the repair company but that would be unPatriotic.

Anybody got some suggestions? Please?

I don’t think that’s unreasonable in the least.

Does not seem unreasonable to me either but you can call Tri County Pools in Fruitland Park at 352-326-0600. They have worked on my hot tub and they do good work at a reasonable price.

Wait till you have to replace the salt cell!

Definitely! Ours was replaced under warranty by T&D, even though we were out of warranty by two weeks.

We got 11 years before the replacement. The pros didn’t believe me.

That's classy of T&D & must have been a tremendous relief. I think we all know the aggravation of having a product somehow fail immediately after expiration of its warranty.

Seems correct. $125 for labor is a bargain. They probably made about 200 bucks on the pump.

I agree as well.. it's usually $100-125 just to come do anything to a pool. I always try to google the "how to's" and usually do things myself.

He’s worked on my pool a couple of times regarding filter problems. He knows his stuff. He is HONEST and reliable and won’t charge you exorbitant numbers. Although semi retired he is always looking for side work. He does NOT do pool maintenance like vacuuming but can repair your filter. And, guess what, he is still licensed in Florida.

I go to a the pools in TV free. The fees we all pay supports the maintenance.

The fuel surcharge seems high. If the price of gas went up by $2 that would mean they used 7 gals of gas to service your job. I replaced the pump on our commercial sized pool last winter and the cost was $200 for the pump, so a $600 pump seems high. Labor and seal cost seem appropriate.

It is to be expected- maintenance and repairs of a pool are costly and never ending. Did your pool service company have any companies to recommend? Did you contact the company that installed the pool ?
Most companies to stay in business, at least double the mark up on supplies they use or supply- so a $200 mark up doesn’t seem bad. And with the skyrocketing cost of salaries, benefits, gas and
insurance- $125/hour more than reasonable.

I'm guessing you haven't engaged the services of a lawyer in many years.

Proposal looks reasonable to me. Call T&D Pool and Spa.

T&D Pools, I am quite certain, are out of business and taken over by Patriot Pool

T7D pools is not out of business. They sold the service branch to Patriot.
I think the cost for the repairs was reasonable.

Why don't you go into any of the chemical supply stores around here and ask for some recommendations. The prices you got are certainly reasonable for someone to come out to your place, sell you the part and make some money off of you. This is a 10-year cycle of having high demand and low supply for labor plus you're in The villages and considered a sucker who can part with their money.

Tri County services our pool and does a very good job. They replaced our pool pump not that long ago the cost was similar to what you paid.

Seems high for the most part. Why not buy the parts and advertise for an installer at half the cost. By the way. You probably need to get a better lawyer if it’s serious. $125 isn’t much.

I’m diy’ing a new variable speed pump, filter housing, diverter valves and back flow valves.

$1,800 for the pump
$900 for the filter housing
$300 for two filters
$500 miscellaneous

As a side note - I see no reason why folks don’t list the names of companies and service providers be it good / bad / or in between.

Unless one is getting a one of deal then what a company does for u will most likely be what is done for me. And if there is a difference - then that’s worthwhile insight too.

T&D now refers all repairs to Patriot Pools who took over the maintenance of pools from T&D.

Wonder if the lawyer knows how to repair your pool?? You are paying for the repair guys knowledge too

The chlorinator cell is expensive because it uses two rare metals. The plates are titanium, coated with iridium.

The secrete to getting long cell life is to buy the largest cell available and run it at reduced output. Currently that would be the 45,000 gal size. Or T-15. I run the T-15 cell on my 16,000 gal pool at 50%.

As the cell approches the end of it's normal life expectancy, it may report an unreliable salt level in the pool. Usually, several hundred ppm lower then the actual salt level. So, don't rely on the salt level reported on the control box screen.

Use a salt test strip to measure the salt level in the pool water or have the water tested for salt level at Pinch a Penny before adding salt to the pool.

Accidently Increasing the salt level beyond the recomended 3400 ppm level can increase the cell current level and damage the clorinator control board.which is very expensive.

The cost of the control board plus the cost of a new T-15, 45,000 gal cell, plus labor to replace the board, is more then the cost of new chlorianator and a T-15 cell.

That is what recently happened to me and I ended up replacing the entire system along with a new cell.

Replacing the cholorinator and the cell is not difficult. Mounting the new cabinet and attaching four color coded wires took about a half hour. Replacing the cell took 15 minutes.

You should also replace the fllow switch which comes with the new chlorinator. Be certain to insalll the flow swich in the correct direction. The flow switch comes with a wire and plug that plugs into the bottom of the chorlinator cabinet. There is an arrow on the switch that indicaes the water flow direction.

You could be working with 240 volts AC, so be certain to turn off the power to the pool at the circuit breaker box before removing the wires.

Sure this will be helpful to others………all of the above was completed on mine.

We switched to them when T&D earned being dumped for lack of service/follow up/being there!!

Salt Cell
 

Salt cell's are not that expensive. I bought my Hayward cell from Amazon with full 3 yr warranty. All you do is unplug the old cell and plug in the new one. Last time we replaced the pool pump it was a about $1,800 total.

Who held a gun to your head and forced you to pay that price! Don't complain shop around first,get estimates! First of all when you worked did anybody ask you to work for less, I doubt it! If you can't afford basic maintenance maybe it's time to reconsider things like paying your investment broker more!
