Sometimes it does (sort of...)

Back in the day, as a Junior at a Minnesota University, I was sort of idealistic. Also sort of ill-informed. I decided to stage a one-person protest over parking tickets, which at the time were a $1 payment if paid within 3 days, $3 if over that, on the premise that parking tickets amounted to double taxation. Anyway in the space of several months I accumulated a pile of 133 unpaid parking tickets. Well, the inevitable happened. I received a summons to appear in court over the unpaid tickets, though in all honesty I think what provoked the summons was my other habit of grabbing a pile of nickels and sauntering on down the sidewalk about a half-block ahead of the meter maid (yep, we called 'em that back then) and dropping a nickel into every parking meter with a car parked in the spot, that had an expired meter. She didn't like that at all (though I don't think it is illegal).

Anyway...court. I pled "guilty--with an explanation". The judge let me expound on my reason for not paying the ticket, then sentenced me to a $100 fine or 20 days in jail, $33 less than I would have paid had I paid every ticket on time. Suffice it to say I paid the fine.

Gas prices have fallen 27 days in a row. Of course, they went up that many days in a row earlier but still good news.

The truth. companies that get lots of tickets such as UPS send an agent to traffic court and they get a quantity discount. Nickle meters? Perhaps, NY everything is more in NY I don't recall ever seeing a meter that was not a dime, then a quarter, now credit cards and I guess you pay them off over time. As far as meters. The law is you must move the car. You cannot feed the meter twice. Again NY I had a cop watch me double feed the meter and then write me a ticket for double feeding the meter. Respect for the law. Truth reality only if you have never dealt with it.

This was 1970 Minnesota. A nickel bought you 12 minutes on a 2-hour meter. All manual--put in the coin and turn the little handle until the coin went where it was supposed to go and the needle went to the appropriate spot on the dial. You weren't supposed to park more than 4 hours at a time at any one meter but you could add minutes at any time.

But when the prices went up they doubled, when they came down it was only about 12%!

It jumped daily by 15-20 cents. It's down 34 cents over the last 3 weeks. And you think that this is news worthy

Your fine may be $70 but you still owe the gas station owner $132.25. By the way, I think this story is a crock - around here gas rose to just about $5.00 per gallon. Were you driving in California?

I doubt that this really happened, considering you have to put your credit card in before you pump. If paying gas, you have to pay inside BEFORE you pump. If it is true, you are thief. NOT OK.

Larryandlinda 07-12-2022 07:24 AM

Woowoo
This gas thing is bringing about grumpiness - many missin’ the humor - we still stop at fillin’ stations for junk food, to poop n pee, and plug in on a road trips, but have been using the fuel the sun donates to our PV’s and have been all electric since our first Chevy Bolt In ‘17.
Are we still grumpy? Dern tootin’ but this gas thing gives us a chuckle after dumping a van that sucked it up huge.

Ptmckiou 07-12-2022 07:38 AM

Good news! Gas prices have dropped now 28 days in a row. Stop whining. Oil company greed won’t last forever…..oh wait. Maybe not. Nevertheless, it is definitely slowly coming down.

You need to work on shopping, I just paid 4.06. You were robbed.

OhioBuckeye 07-12-2022 08:09 AM

If prices keep going up it might start getting worse. My son in law in Texas had a whole tank of gas stolen from his truck in the middle of the night.

The town I grew up in had meters that took pennies, which got you 6 minutes. As long as you wanted to feed the meter, you could park in that space. Southerners just nicer folks!

Like your videos.

There is a Ted Talk about electric autos. The premise is, were you able to replace ALL gas powered autos with electric vehicles today, would you? The speaker went on to show that electric vehicles have a larger carbon footprint vs gas powered, and create additional environmental problems. Seems (according to the lecture) hybrids are best for the environment (at least until we are able to improve the technology of electric transportation.).

Where were you driving - California? Your fine is $70 and you forgot to mention that you still have to pay the original amount for the gas. Keep your "money saving" tips to yourself!

Gas is Cheap

Look what you get for a gallon of gasoline: 25 miles of transportation to any place you choose in air conditioned comfort. That’s worth how much? The price of oil is determined by something as American as apple pie, free market capitalism. We should be waving flags and celebrating.

Do you realize that the oil companies have been price-fixing the cost of gas since you and I were born which has allowed their obscene profits, until it was recently superseded by the pharmaceutical companies, to make it the richest industry in the world. Not only that but we (our govt) have been subsidizing it as well.
