Woof Gang Bakery

Does anyone out there know of a good small dog (maltipoo) groomer?

Since everyone uses this site to gripe, I think I'll join the club.

I have been a customer at Woof Gang in Brownwood since they opened, my dog has been groomed there at least 10x/year for 5-6 years. Had a 1:00 PM appt, but got caught in the thunderstorm that just went through. I called them at 12:57 to let them know I'd be about 15 minutes late and the receptionist said fine. I got there at 1:12, I was holding the dog and stood there for 14 minutes until 1:26. They had gone in to speak to the groomer several times as I waited, then came out and told me they couldn't take him today because I was late. I said I didn't see how 12 minutes could make a big difference, and the woman said you're 26 minutes late! After I asked if she really wanted to stand in front of other customers and argue, I gave her a remedial lesson in clock reading. She just said curtly we can't groom him today. I do find it amazing since when they give you the 8:00 AM timer, you stand there until 8:15 or 8:20 to get in. I guess 12 minutes only makes a difference at 1:00 PM. Then they told me they can't reschedule until the end of business hours and they would call. Funny, since I always schedule the dog's next appointment when I pick him up. So I just left, not a real good way to do business. Plus they wasted over 1/2 hour of my time

Bottom line: I'm looking for a new groomer. I will, of course make an appt. at Woof Gang, one that I will wait 34 minutes after the time thereof to call and let them know we are now even in the waste each other's time department.

I am extremely surprised. They have always been so accommodating with my 2 dogs. I have a handicapped dog that cannot stand for long periods of time, and they work with her. My other dog has anxiety issues, and they are super patient with him. The owner is a very nice woman. I think if you contacted her she would make amends. They have wonderful groomers and nothing else comes close to their skill level.

Not as surprised as I was. They have always been great, same groomer for years---but this was apparently the groomer's decision and a very bad one. Normally I give a business a second chance, but this was way over the top, I'm not sure my remarks gave an accurate description of how bad the experience was. I guess the most annoying part was that I called and told them I was stuck in the rain for a few minutes----they could have said we can't take any dog that is late, but instead they chose to waste my time and then stand in front of other customers and try to argue about the time I arrived-----even the other customers knew I had been standing there longer than everyone else. So, their loss, I already have an appointment with another highly recommended groomer.

We always show up early due to possible traffic, weather issues. We’ll be 15 minutes late for my flight hold it for us.

I detect a potential attitude problem that may be a contributing factor in the way things went down.

None whatsoever.........UNTIL........they came out a said they couldn't do it because I was late, even though they were later and I called to let them know. Even then, I saved the front desk person from arguing in front of other customers and didn't make a scene. They will, however, get "attitude" when they call back, count on it.

You should have given them your signature....................................:1rot fl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

I hope you know I'm kidding with you. They missed that 10-year customer part!

I looked an TOTV and other social media----apparently they've PO'ed a bunch of people.

There are 2 mobile groomer trucks that come in our street weekly. Have seen both trucks in the neighborhood for the last 8 years, so they must have a great following. When I get a chance I will pay attention for their business names, and will post to you.

Well I can’t argue with you because I am one that draws a line in the sand too. However my dog, Reagan (a golden retriever/ dachshund mix) gets his hair and nails done occasionally at Woof Gang ‘s but my wife handles it and I don’t even know how much it costs! The dachshund was the father by the way( or so we were told). The old boy is 12 now but chases a ball (retriever) like he is 2.

You sound like you belong on the Big Bang Theory TV show.
Remember; it is better to be 20 minutes early than 1 minute late.
The whole situation is your fault. Take responsibility for your actions.

Are you really Sheldon Cooper?

Rwirish 07-21-2022 04:55 AM

How terrible. Bottom line, someone was late for their appointment.

You would most likely be right IF I hadn't called there first and was told it was OK to be 15 min late. Get it?????? I called, THEY said it was OK, THEN after waiting 14 minutes while they dithered around I was told they couldn't do the job. GET IT????? Sometimes I think reading comprehension has declined rapidly in this country.

I have a maltipoo also. I’ve been going to the PetSmart groomers on Wedgewood Lane/Buffalo Ridge for 4 years and have always been happy with their work. Call 352-561-3125 and ask for Toni.

Why not just let it go? What will you gain giving them more of your dissatisfaction? You have already found a new groomer, move on.

Yes, they have a business to run. You were due at 1:00. They were so busy they couldn’t even come to greet you when you arrived. Face it, you were late.
They saw the others waiting, who were probably on time, and realized then they couldn’t do your dog. You are no special than anyone else.

Interesting. Were you there???? If you were, you would realize they weren't all that busy. I was greeted when I arrived at 1:12, and they told me the groomer would be right out They had 2 dogs ahead of me to get their nails clipped, which took less than 2 minutes each. They had one customer after me who was just buying some food so they rang her up. They went in the back again to get the groomer, and said it would be just a minute. THEN, at 1:26 they came out and said she couldn't groom the dog. And once again, if it isn't clear or if some people don't read prior posts, I CALLED IN ADVANCE. SEE POST # 15

PS: I would define "special" as knowing what happened when not there.

I have been bringing both my dogs since they opened and Beth was working. I haven’t seen Jill for quite a while who has always been very accommodating. I have encountered a few attitude issues lately with some of their additional staffing. Best of luck with a new groomer.

Since you said that you already made an appointment with another highly recommended groomer, I don't understand the reason for your post other than to cause damage to a small, highly-respected business. As another person pointed out, you should have spoken to the owner and given her a chance to make amends, but you instead chose to take your business elsewhere, so now it's time for you to let go and move on.

Paul1934 07-21-2022 06:40 AM

We gave up on them. Way overpriced and attitude.

ChicagoNative 07-21-2022 06:41 AM

We used to use Woof Gang too, but I got tired of the dog grooming taking a half day or more, even with an appointment. I think they make multiple appointments at the same time.

Anyway, we found Katrina at “Dog and Suds” With whom we are very happy. She recently moved to a larger space on 301 in a strip mall and was able to bring on another groomer. +1 (352) 748-7837 1006 Main Street. She is so caring and careful with the dogs, and it doesn’t take all day. She’s also a small, independent business. The shop isn’t all fancy like Woof Gang, but I’ll take the substance over style in this case.

Well, I'll concede that they are small. But if you read the other posts on this thread and other social media, "highly respected" is doubtful.

I love how she comes looking for advice, and tells her story..... and you all immediately act like a pack of jackals eating your own. She called, they said that's fine. Made her wait 15 minutes then added that time and said she was almost 1/2 hour late. Again, she called telling them that should would be 15 minutes late, she was 12 minutes late. They treated her like crap, as you all pile on. Amazing.

One of them is called Grooms To Go. A very nice man, used to do our two goldens. One was age 15, and he would pick him up and carry him to the truck, then carry him back. I'm sorry I don't have his number with me during the summer.

He's in our neighborhood (Biscayne Villas) every month doing all the little dogs, and they look good. I could get his number from a neighbor if anyone is interested.

Thank you that would be great if you would post their info. . Mobile groomers are the best. No waiting in holding areas! Had one for 6 years and now she has retired.

I have emailed someone in my neighborhood and asked for the number. It may take a few days. We're not there or I would just go ask.

Excellent small-dog groomer

Cannot say enough praise for Lady Lake Professional Grooming.
Owner is Jacki.
Phone: 352-205-8865.
We've have our third Shih Tzu, and maintain them in puppy cuts every 5 weeks and bath/brush half way between grooming. They do beautiful work.
Primarily small dogs, but they do all breeds.
We tried three other groomers before Jacki and her crew and found, even though you had scheduled appointments, your pup would be there most of the day. A bath and full groom is around 90 minutes, and they call you about 15 minutes before your pup is ready to pick up.
Staff is fantastic.
They are located about 500 yards south of 466, on the right (west) side of 441/27, just after the thrift store/farmers market (128 S. Hwy 27/441).
5 stars.

Gunny2403 07-21-2022 07:56 AM

It’s a one off. Give them a break.

dtennent 07-21-2022 08:10 AM

We also have a Shih Tzu and have decided to leave Woof Gang grooming. The main reason was that they consistently would not trim the hair inside the air flap. This would lead to moisture problems and then ear infections. Our Veterinarian pointed out the problem but we could not get Woof Gang to change.

sallyg 07-21-2022 08:12 AM

Cannot recommend.

Try Grooming Wag-in

Michelle with Grooming Wag In does our Maltipoo and we've never had a problem. The beauty is that she comes to your door and returns the dog to your door. No need to travel to a store and wait or come back later.
