Happened to go to Winn Dixie this AM. On the way out saw a group of guys at the Lotto machine. I never bet, but thought WTH? So got 5 quick picks for $10.

If we win the big one every TOTV person gets $10.

I never bought a lottery ticket and never will. Bad investment.

As was said by one of the news readers last week.....you are 20 times more likely to get hit by lightning than having a winning lottery ticket!

I make $365 dollars a year on the lottery, How ? By saving a dollar a day, not buying a ticket.

IMO life is a bit of a gamble. The odds for the $1billion is about 1in 320 million. So, one in the USA population would win. I invested $10 in 5 tickets so it’s about 1 in 70 million.

I never buy lotto, but it was an impulse. Can never win or have a chance if…..

I never. understood the hype for these huge pots when you can try to win a single million just about every day with sone being tax free and the odds are much better.

How many times am I likely to win the lottery? Zero. But you never know, it *could* happen once. So, do I spend my chance on a $20M pot or do I spend my chance on a $200M (or $1B in this case) pot?

I'm very unlikely to win but if I do it will be BIG.

I'm a much more humble person being poor. That said, OP, I'll take the sawbuck if you win!

Yep. Don't mind doing it. Part of the money collected for the ticket is put into an education fund (when I was in TN) and it paid students $4000/year for secondary education if they maintained their grades. Great program. My child received WAY more $$$ than I've spent on tickets or will spend in my lifetime. Saved me a lot of money on their education.

I keep buying occasionally and assume it is a donation for those good students that maintain their grades to qualify. If I win anything then that is payback for doing a good deed.

Never thought of it as an investment. It like buying a coffee...only cheaper. You go into investments with the expectation of making money. You buy lottery tickets, movie tickets, or a beer for fun and enjoyment.

I am very analytical and the numbers say it’s statistically a bad investment. That being said, $2 is a cheap price to pay for a “what if” happy dream. When the jackpot reaches a billion dollars, what the hell, I’ll drop 2 bucks for a dream.

Investment? Really? :a20: I mean c'mon! I'm sure you've p1ssed away more than $2 on other "bad investments" in your lifetime. Ever "invest" $5 in a beer with zero ROI?

That being said I just heard a huge Chinese rocket is going to break up coming through the atmosphere sometime around the 31st with pieces coming down on land somewhere. They said the odds of getting hit by a piece of it is about the same as winning the MegaMillions. With my luck and my $2 "investment" I'll probably get hit by a rocket part.

I only buy ONE ticket when it is above $500 million. I won $100 a couple years ago so my "investment" has paid off big. :1rotfl: I'm cowering in the bathtub on the 31st so I don't win.

For a billion take a chance. Better than a 5 dollar Starbucks coffee. Of course it’s half after taxes

$20 for a chance to win 1 Billion. Why not? You can't win if you're not in. A lot of the money goes to education.

We do as well, not much would change, except how good would it be to have our own personal regulation length lap swimming pool : )

They don't call it the "Stupid Tax" for nothing. It is a stupid waste of money.

That being said, it is fun to play when the pot is big. I do not then consider it throwing away money, I consider it a cheap way to have a little fun. Fun being the hope of winning and watching with interest until a winner(s) is named.

Playing everyday in a desperate hope to solve one's financial issues is indeed a poor use of money, and rightfully a tax being paid for being stupid.

We buy ticket on our once a month, no matter what the pot. So far this year we are up by $287. Winnings go in a bowl on the table. Pays for most of our Disney pass holders ticket.

Not true. The odds any combination of numbers being the winning number is around that (1:320M). The odds of anyone possessing that specific combination of numbers is better than 1:320M.

Ask anyone who has bought 20 tickets, 5 per ticket, on behalf of a group of 20 people, each of whom contributed $1 and each of whom is entitled to an equal share of the winnings.

I bet it’s more than half when you file. They take half but that don’t mean that’s it.

Actually the ones who hit lottery every draw is states, feds, and the company contracted to run the lottery.

Damn, so close. I had 5 quick picks each one is 5 numbers plus the mega ball. So a total of 30 numbers.

I got a grand total of one.

No Billion and not even $2.

Oh well. One grand winner from Illinois . Their tax bill Will be enormous.
