Movie’s at the Sharon?
Looks like the Sharon is going to show couple classic movies starting in August. Thoughts
|
I don't get it. I would rather watch them at home.
|
None.
What are you trolling for? |

Maybe they'll try to sell timeshares before they let you watch. :D

“Asking would you watch a movie in the Sharon?” The movie theater has been closed forever, so movie’s at the Sharon, maybe a solution for loss of venue. Have been to Sharon once for a live performance, but not sure how singing in the rain would sound or the picture quality. Looks like developers are trying something new.Prices are 10.50 for public, and 8.50 for residents. Will try to catch one of the movies to see, and hopefully my response will not cause BS to attack  |
Lot of money for a movie we can watch on TV but hopefully this is the start of reopening it.

What a great idea. I'd LOVE to see old classic movies on a huge screen. I've never seen movies like "Singing in the Rain" on a big screen. I will be looking forward to that. I'd also love to see the 1961 "West Side Story" on a big screen. As for the sound, The Sharon has wonderful acoustics. I remember seeing The Beach Boys in that theater and Mike Love said they look forward to coming back there because the superior acoustics make them sound great. Hopefully, the sound system will knock my socks off, especially for a classic movie musical. LOVE those. |
Tickets are purchased for "Singing in the Rain". YAY!!! I've seen this movie several times on TV but never on a big screen. I'm going with my sister who also loves this movie. Thanks so much to the OP for posting about this.

Hasn't the fate of the Rialto already been announced; MVP is taking he spot. And what about the Barnstorm moves? Situation not addressed. |
I wonder how the picture quality is on a large screen with some old flecks.
Not that important for me and I hope you'll enjoy the show. |
I suppose this is a way to further utilize this asset. The place does have a great sound system, but what will it be like when the seating area is only 1/4 full? I am looking forward to the reviews after the showings begin. I bet there will not be popcorn or juju beans for sale…
|
When you see old movie on TV you only see about 2/3s of the wide angle movie made for big screen if that. Sound not same also at home depending on you’re model of TV. I doubt there will be enough interest to make it worthwhile?

I would rather the actual theaters re-open. The theater in Lake Sumter is over booked now at times, unless you like sitting right below the screen. It smell "musty" like the carpets need a good cleaning and no leg room. We wanted to see Thor 3-D and there was only two days and 4 total showings. After paying more for tickets than outside theaters and no cheaper for the concession food, we started going to Leesburg for movies.

I have seen Singing in the Rain on a big screen in a restored historic theatre (California…) It really was much better than my large screen tv.

To those who think it’s a bad idea to show movies 🎥 in The Sharon it instantly made me think of the old saying, No Good Deed Goes Unpunished! How can anyones mind let them turn this into something bad? That’s a shame that this isn’t looked at as a good thing. The other word that comes to mind to describe the negativity is Curmudgeon. You know sorta like Andy Rooney from 60 Minutes. Always picking doom and gloom from everything.
We could stream them all but we’ll be at the Sharon. Thanks to whoever made it happen. |
It is a way to:
A.. Make more $$ at the Sharon (for old movies that should be free) B. A poor attempt to cover for closing the Rialto C. Hoping residents won't complain but instead will be glad this is being provided. All of the above are true |

I would also love to see my absolute favorite western, ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, on the big screen. Old epic movies with iconic landscape scenes and great direction have faded away unfortunately. Playing classic movies instead of the new Hollywood embarrassments is another plus to doing this in the Sharon. Whether or not the Sharon can reproduce the sound and cinematic quality... I don't know. |
Why anyone would rather go to The Sharon to watch an old movie is beyond me. Basically it's watching reruns. If I was going to do that, I would do it in my own home DVR'd with no commercials at my own leisure. If you don't have anything else better to do, something is wrong.

I've always thought The Villages could use a good "classic movie" house. I'm not excited about this though. Films like "Gone With The Wind", "A Hard Day's Night" the original "War of the Worlds" "The Sound of Music" and even "King Kong" are big-screen worthy... they go beyond just story-driven films. The films actually chosen may be "classics" but does the theater experience adds anything... "Breakfast at Tiffany's?" Also... why The Sharon? It's a long trip for thousands of residents... forget the golf carts. At $20+ a couple, to drive that far to watch a readily available film... I just don't see it...
Who knows? Maybe it'll be a huge success. |

I can watch old movies at home for my cheap streaming subscription and HAVE POPCORN TOO! Don't understand this move. Skip |

After seeing Maverick at the Warren Theater in Broken Arrow, I would love to see Top Gun again in the Theater with the great surround sound they have. It's a trend all over the nation to bring our old favorites back to the Theater. I'm game!
